ENTRY 3

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 20

LIVING ROOM 11:00AM

Hello,

It’s the third week of February-happy new month by the way and I’m already wondering why the month hasn’t come to an end!!! Why? Well, a few not-so-important but very and highly annoying reasons! Okay, someday two weeks ago, I cried. Yes, I cried! I know it’s almost hard to believe but it does prove that I get mad over little things which lead to tears.

I have this thing which is similar to being possessive over things that are mine-obviously and I am not exactly open with sharing those certain things or items. So that one day last week, when I cried, was because of the damage done to an item of mine, courtesy of my classmates who do not know how to keep their hands to themselves! What item got damaged you’re wondering? It was my lovely plain white cleaner or eraser or rubber. I’ve always loved stories by Enid Blyton and it took a while about 2 years before I realized ‘rubber’ meant ‘eraser’. Sorry, I digressed, so, my eraser got vandalized by a few classmates who thought it funny to have all three of their first names scrawled over my eraser aka my property! Then, there was the one with my continuous assessment notebook! It’s like they’d planned to annoy me that day and everything just kept building up till I let it out in tears.

The days that followed including last week, were spent reading and having tests. Yeah, it was the first C. A week and I was very busy. I'm really worried about the tests we had today. Agriculture hasn't been my best friend since the first test we had this term. Then there is Basic Technology. Don't get swayed by the name. The subject is pure evil, more evil than Azula or Fire Lord Ozai. I dread having to write Basic Tech cause it’s the one subject that I despise most. Not only does the teacher dislike me but he also makes it his number one mission to annoy me. I mean why does he just so happen to hate my guts for no reason.

Okay, I won't say it’s completely for no reason unless:

-failing to answer questions or answering questions and getting the answers wrong leading me to not even bother to answer questions at all,

-failing tests,

-submitting assignments and projects late or last minute,

-sulking and scowling the minute I see his face,

-rolling my eyes and sighing when he enters the class,

-making sure to forget when I'm supposed to be having his class,

-failing class works and practice questions...

Yeah, he has a lot of reasons to hate me.

Oh well *shrug*. It’s not something I'd bother about considering it's a mutual feeling.

Plus, he thinks he’s funny. Ha! I believe he’s got a few screws loose. It’s really annoying that he always has something to laugh about and believe it or not, I have two fave moments in the class and they are:

1- When he’s absent and

2- When he’s absent.

Last Friday, I was at a vigil at church and spent quality time with the twins amidst their chaos *sighs*. So, I was to put the kids to sleep after the vigil and it was a major crisis ‘cause Taiye just didn’t make it easy-not with wanting to eat every 5 minutes! Luckily, his bag wasn’t quite far from where I was stationed-which is on a spread-out blanket close to where I sat during the vigil-so I had to make his food. On the bright side, while I read this amazing book, The Wishing Chair by Enid Blyton aka one of my fave English authors, Taiye happily ate his food. He was like, feeding himself but that didn’t last long cause immediately he was done, I had to hold him till he fell asleep and I followed suit.

The following Wednesday at school, we had cultural practice. We were taught some…acrobatics? I dunno we had to summersault and do a couple of flips. By 'we' I mean my teammates cause I suck at back or front flips-all the flips. I can manage a summersault and my cartwheel looks like it's crashing down. Hey, my talents don't lie in gymnastics. They’re in a whole lotta other things where I barely have to move my body except when it comes to sports. I ace that-the practical aspect though. I mean even though I can't play tennis or basketball or cricket and I can't swim or dance really well-to even save my life, I can jump and run a heck lot.

Anyway, I felt dizzy in class that day so, my class teacher took me to the sick bay. The good news was I didn't have to sit through another earful class of Basic Science. I'm not a fan of science-no offense to science lovers, I love technology but there’s only so much about the human body and environment that I want to know of-and I mean I’m actually not in the slightest bit interested in learning anything more than the basics.

The bad news is; I have a few notes to write. Not short notes...long notes. 'Somebody throw me off a nearby cliff and if I survive we'll try again okay?!' I left the sickbay sometime during break cause I was feeling better and I had to get over the urge to miss classes. I know, I suck right? I need to rebel once in my twelve years, six months and twenty-eight days of life. I'll add that to my to-do list.

We’d been having Cultural Rehearsals at school for the upcoming Cultural Day Celebration or whatever. Cultural Day is a day we celebrate the various tribes in the country by dressing up according to whatever tribe or ethnicity they’re from and coming along with different foods. Okay, that’s a terrible definition. It was my first Cultural Day in secondary school. Back in primary school, Cultural Day included a whole lot of food, music, entertainment and dresses from the various cultures and tribes in the country. It was also a competition to see what tribe would win first place after all the events. Every student is placed in one of the six geo-political zones that are based on geographical area or something like that. There is always a lot to do and teachers and seniors are in charge.

Here in secondary school, it’s pretty much the same, just bigger and more challenging. Unfortunately, I wasn’t in the same group as my besties so we won’t get to hang out much. I was super bored at the first meeting so, at the second when they asked for volunteers for the dance and music performance, I volunteered. It just hit me that I danced before a lot of people without feeling nervous or embarrassed. Well, it wasn’t a solo, I’m in a group with other girls so I was probably not noticed. The dance is a cultural kind so it includes a lot of acrobatic and weird but unique displays and it’s super easy to perform. The choreographer has got a really scary face but he’s super nice. We’ve had rehearsals on Mondays and Wednesdays, and also last Saturday too.

In Nigeria, there are three major ethnic groups: Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa but there are over a hundred ethnic groups. The country is split into six geo-political zones: North West, North East, North Central, South West, South East and no, there’s no South Central even that doesn’t make any sense. What we have is South-South. All thirty-six states are divided into these zones. The South-West has the Yoruba people, the South-East has the Igbo people and the North is mostly made up of Hausa and Fulani people. There are other ethnic groups like Edo, Tiv, Igala, etcetera. If you wanna know more about them, google is available.

Oh yeah, so the Cultural Day was a few days ago and South-East won all thanks to our dance, music, craft and drama. The seniors who played the Royal Family did a great job. That being said, school is closed for midterms and that’s for a whole week! It’s my week of relaxation and enjoyment.*dreamy sigh* Mid-term breaks are the best! Do you know why?

-I don't have to wake up early and get ready for school because there is like, NO SCHOOL! Talk about the best news ever!

-I don't have to see any teachers’ faces!

-I don't have to wear my maid-like-looking uniform.

And here's the best part... I do almost everything that I want. Almost everything because I still have to do chores and stuff and run errands occasionally. But there are more pros since I'll be at home living my life with TV and food and games and snacks and *sigh* my dream world. Hey, I’m 12 and I’ve not got much going for me. Plus, it’s not like I’m allowed to go hang out at a friend’s house. My friends don’t even live close so it’s literally impossible.

Speaking of “friends”, I had a fallout with one but we’re not that close. She’s a boarder while I’m a day student. We got to know each other in JSS1 aka 7th grade and it’s thanks to our love for Korean dramas and Nickelodeon shows. It was really nice to have someone to talk to but like every human on earth, myself included, she’s got flaws. I can’t exactly remember what happened, I just know that it had to do with her getting all jealous and telling lies. And she does that a lot, it’s really annoying and when I tell her about it, she gets angry, so much for friendship.

Anyway, my mid-term break is usually for a whole week. Let me explain... In my school and other schools in the country, we have weeks for tests depending on your school's curriculum. In my school, the first week of resumption is for our first C. A which stands for Continuous Assessment test. Then we have Second C. A in the third or fourth week of the term. Then the third C. A comes in the sixth week. So, the seventh week is for Mid Term Break.

In other words: No school week.

Some schools have their mid-term breaks for just two days e.g. my primary school aka my brothers' school. Ha! Sucks to be them! I've been there and done that.

Unfortunately, the mid-term break is also not all that either. Why?

Some very very nice and lovely teachers be like, 'Oh yeah they're going on mid-term break, it's time to shower them with projects, notes and assignments!'

'I mean hello! We just concluded our tests. The next thing happening in like four or five weeks is the exam. So give us a break people!'

Of course, I say that in my head. I'm not stupid enough-yeah I happen to be a little stupid at times. Don't give me that look everybody has their own time to say it to my teacher's face. I mean yeah, I do complain and nag a lot too mostly when it comes to schoolwork and house chores. But in my defence, they have to know I do not enjoy doing it.

Is there anyone here who likes stress?

Cause I sure as heck don't! Yeah, I know I can be lazy. Sue me! Don't I was kidding. About the suing part jsuk.

Isn't it amazing how I made up JSUK which stands for JUST SO YOU KNOW?

Imma make up some more abbreviations but that will be when I'm bored of course.

Anyway, I am so so so so so so so so so so happy! And now I’m beginning to think that I’ve played every dress-up game on the internet. Okay, maybe not all but most dress-up games, especially Barbie games. And I’ve gotten tired of dress-up games and anything related to it like makeovers, shopping and fashion contest games. So, I decided to try out this cooking game my sister has been obsessed with lately called Emily. There are different versions like New Beginning, Cook and Go, Home Sweet Home, and others like a series. I’ve got to hand it to the creators, the characters and graphics are so cute and it’s in story mode. I totally approve!

On Sunday, my siblings and I decided to visit a temple on the Island with our Dad. At first, we scoped out church when we dropped our mum and seeing as there was no drama or anything noteworthy, we left. At the temple, we met a lot of Indians. I was like 'I want your hair!' But I only said that in my head and to my sister and friends who also wanted the same thing. We took a lot of pictures too and had a lot of fun exploring and running around. Unfortunately, there were no Indian kids our age. Also, we has Indian food with lots of sweets and on our way back, we stopped at our favourite store to get snacks-their meat pies are to die for!

I’ll be visiting the twins soon and hopefully, I’ll bring them over so we can all have fun. Squeeeee! I’m sooo excited. I’ve missed my babies so much and it’s because lately, we only get to play with them for a few hours. Having them here is gonna be a blast unless my sister forces me to clean up. Either way, I can’t wait!

Yipeeeeeee!
