Outside Saint Berg Hospital
"She looks quite depressed."
Amber sighed and nodded her head, "She has been through a lot in the past few years. But I am sure she will be okay, she is a strong woman."
Hesitating for a while, Ivan asked, "What was she talking about?"
"About what?"
"She was asking you to heal her baby and bring it back. It really didn't make sense—" Ivan was still confused why Renna sounded so confident that Amber could actually bring her baby back. No matter how hard he tried to figure out what she was referring to, it really didn't make any sense.
Contemplating for a while, Amber shuttered for a while before coming up with a valid reason to cover things up. "Well, since she is in a vulnerable state right now, maybe she thinks I can help her solve her problem like I always do. People tend to say baseless and senseless things when they are mentally unstable or weak."
"That clears a lot of things that she said in there." Unlocking the car, he opened the door for her. "For a second I thought you had some superpower or something."
….
Inside the car.
"That is not true, reading is fun."
"I am not saying it's bad but it's definitely not fun either," Ivan retorted. Both of them were talking about random things on their way back home.
"Well, maybe you are saying this because you haven't read something which touches your heart and triggers your emotions," Amber remarked.
"I might try reading one when I am not sleepy because trust me, an open book works way better than any sleeping pills," he chuckled.
"Please—" Stopping midway, she widened her eyes in shock. "Ivan, watch out—" she yelled.
He immediately stepped on the brakes when he saw someone standing right in the middle of the road.
Covering both her eyes, Amber groaned, "Oh God, did we kill someone?"
"I—I don't know." He then quickly unbuckled his seat belt and got down from the car while she followed him out of the car.
….
Outside.
Since the route they had used earlier was swamped with heavy traffic, both of them had taken an alternative route. Though the road was smooth, the area was a relatively remote one and the lack of proper street lights made it look very dark.
Taking out his phone, Ivan turned on his flashlight before looking under the car to see if they actually hit someone.
"I don't think we hit someone—what was that?" Amber was very sure she had seen someone standing in the middle of the road.
"I don't know." Looking around, Ivan frowned when he realized where they were.
Without wasting any time, he grabbed Amber's hand. "We need to leave." He then guided her towards the passenger seat.
After slamming the door shut, he jogged his way towards the driver's seat and quickly drove away.
As the car kept moving forward, a pair of dark blood red eyes stared at it from behind one of the closest trees.
As it was about to thrust itself forward and chase them, a voice from behind commanded. "Not now Rhombus—" Looking at the direction where Ivan and Amber left, he stated, "We need to wait for the correct time."
