The Darkness

As I made my way back home after taking a long walk to clear my mind-- yes a long walk, I couldn't be flying around the place knowing not everyone was okay with superhumans and mutants yet-- Madison had told me that Caleb would be waiting outside for me.

She was okay after what I did. She said she understood although I kept telling her that wasn't a reason for me to hurt her, which she then shushed me and continued to say that it just knocked her out for a while but didn't affect her too much. Thank God himself or else I don't know what I would've done if something terrible had happened to my bestfriend.

I reached the gate entering the code and then made my way down the path leading to the house.

As I neared the house I could see him sitting on the steps.

"How long have you been there?" I said to him as I got closer.

"Since you left," He patted the space next to him and motioned me to come sit "Look we need to talk and please don't get upset and do not fight me because I will not hesitate to knock you out young lady." Narrowing his eyes at me.

I rolled my eyes and took a seat beside him.

"I was pretty freaked out and upset when I saw him here today. I nearly smashed the guys head in just for leaving you but when he started talking about what he's found out and then he told me he had helped you out because you were shitface drunk." He chuckled, I slapped him on the back of his head "He can help us out with this whole finding Elias plan Mar. And I know I told you to stop searching because we weren't getting anywhere but we're gonna need that big brilliant head of yours now more than ever since we've finally got a break through. I just thought it was best to let him stay." He ran a hand through his hair and sighed. I could feel his frustration, as he was a bit on edge of how I would react.

"For all we know he could probably just up and leave again right he's done it before," I muttered "I don't trust him, atleast not anymore."

"You have to listen to his side of the story Maria, just hear him out and stop fighting so much. You have to let us help you once in a while, and you have to listen sometimes." He placed his hand on my shoulder giving it a light squeeze.

I knew what he was referring to, how something is slowly but surely affecting me but I didn't want to focus on that right now.

I sighed and put my face in my hands.

"I don't know what's happening to me. I just need some time." I turned to face him and rested my head on his shoulder.

"I just want what's best for you." He smiled.

I hugged him and he hugged me back, squeezing me a little too tight like he was afraid of letting go.

I leaned back up and gave him a light hit on the shoulder.

"Enough of the sappy talk you sap, I'll try to remain calm. Except now I think the kids are scared of me" I sighed.

"In fact it's quite the opposite." Caleb chuckled.

I looked at him with a confused look and he smiled.

"Come on, let's get inside." He tapped my leg.

We both got up off the steps, and walked inside. As I stepped through the door, I felt a shock go through my brain and to my entire body. I staggered into the door and squeezed my eyes shut.

"Agh." I held my head, Caleb turned around to look at me.

"Mar." Caleb held onto my arms helping me stand straight.

"I-it's happening again," I gripped onto his arms as another shockwave went through my body "Get Mads. Now."

He lifted me up and brought me into the living room, placing me on the couch. Thankfully none of the kids were down here, just Lexi and Aaron.

"What's wrong, is it that thing again?" I heard Aaron asking.

"Lexi I need you to go and find Mads," Caleb demanded, I heard running so that was obviously Lexi "You'll be okay sis just hold on alright."

I tried to nod my head but a chill ran up my spine and I knew what was coming next.

My eyes opened and I heard the glass windows in the house smash.

I looked to Caleb, his eyes wide. "Hold me down, do it now."

He nodded, his skin instantly turned into stone, he pinned down my arms. I heard someone running over before I could tell them to stay back, Cyrus, Mads, Lexi, Bishop and Aaron came into view.

"What's happening to her she looks possese-" Aaron started but then I heard a slap and a 'ow'.

"She's been like this repeatedly for the past years, we don't know what it is but we can knock her out for a while. Cyrus follow me, Caleb bring her." Mads instructed, their voices were getting distant and then near, I was falling in and out of consciousness.

Mads was bringing me to the infirmary room we had built in the basement, since we couldn't go to the hospitals as much because of who we are and there were persons out there wanting to harm us so instead we had special nurses, who were also superhumans, that'd help us out whenever we needed them.

Now whenever I got like this she would have to inject me with some serum to knock me out which would then knock out whatever was changing me for a while.

"Maria you're gonna be okay alright." Cyrus spoke.

The shocks were getting more and more, the pain was burning my insides, I squeezed my eyes shut.

I shook my head "No, you all need to get away from me before I hurt you," I tried to move my hands but they were buckled down to the table "Get out now."

Things in the room started to float, I heard Caleb calling out to Mads, asking how far she reached in the serum.

"You guys need to leave-" I couldn't finish, I felt a burning sensation make it's way through my entire body, scorching my insides slowly.

"Get. Out." I said but only my voice didn't sound like mine. The lights started flashing off and on, equipment floated in the air and everyone stood in shock. This wasn't me and whatever it was, my control over it was slowly slipping away.

"Caleb take the others and leave, please agh." I pleaded but no one was listening, I tried to get my hands out of the restraints but they wouldn't budge.

"No we aren't going to leave you, the serum is almost ready. Just hold on sis." Caleb argued, if they weren't gonna leave then I'd have to. This wasn't like the other times, no, this had gone way too far. I could feel something else taking over my body.

"Whatever it is you need to do, do it now Madison because I don't think she can hold on any longer." I heard Cyrus say.

But unfortunately, time was up.

My hands broke through the restraints, I sat up on the table and looked towards my friends.

"Maria?" Lexi called my name, unsure if it was me or something else.

"Help me." Was the last thing I said before that something else took over and I was on autopilot. I could still see and feel what was happening but I just couldn't stop it.

I raised my hand and dropped it back down. All the equipment in the room went flying all over the place.

Lexi stopped some and then built a shield around Bishop and Aaron. Caleb tried to dodge them, Mads had a force field around herself as she tried to finish up the serum and Cyrus was trying to stop me.

He dodged the stuff swinging around the room and made his way over to me.

"Maria, fight it. Don't let it overcome you." He yelled over the crashing sounds in the background. I got up off the table, slowly walking towards him.

I looked up at him, placing my hand on his cheek "You've hurt her very badly. You promised her you'd stay but you didn't." And with another pat on the cheek, he went flying across the room.

Aaron stretched out his arms and caught him, as I walked over to Mads a barrier stopped me from getting to her.

"Maria, stop it right now. This isn't you." Lexi demanded. Mads stared at me wide eyed, clutching the serum to her chest.

I chuckled, raising an eyebrow "Are you really sure that this isn't me?" I then narrowed my eyes at her.

As I did that, the barrier started flickering as she got weaker. Lexi screamed out and held her head as she fell to the ground. I weakened her power and in result she was knocked out.

"Mar," Caleb stood infront of Mads "I know you're in there. You've been fighting this for so long don't let it win now." He pleaded.

I chuckled again "It's cute how you all want to help her now, but all each of you have ever done is hurt her. How thoughtful. Well it's too late." The darkness inside me said. I lunged forward ready to attack.

"DO IT NOW!" My brother yelled. I turned around to see Bishop appear behind me, he grabbed my arms and attached the bracelet Cyrus used earlier to my wrists.

I shoved him off and used my mind to fling him far as he hit the wall. By time I turned around Cyrus was infront of me with the serum in his hand.

"This is for you." Since it was plastic I couldn't use my metal controlling powers because of this bracelet thing and it somehow stopped me from using any of my powers.

He'd already stuck the needle into the side of my arm when I came to realisation.

Watching as every ounce of the clear liquid emptied into my system, I felt lifeless but back in control of my body. I felt my legs go numb, before I could collapse to the floor Cyrus caught me.

"Maria?" He said quietly and a bit unsure.

"Thank you." I gave him a weak smile, drifting into unconsciousness.
