Marlena grabbed a book from the shelf, read its name, and placed it on top of the pile that had gathered on the table. Just as she picked another, Regina walked in and was puzzled by the mountain of books on the table.
"What is this?"
Marlena tiredly sighed. "All the books I can find about mysterious illnesses."
Regina swept her gaze on them. "You don't need to read all these. When will you finish them? And what if you don't get the exact thing you are looking for by the time you read all of them?"
Marlena paused halfway through pulling out another book. Her mother was right. She couldn't guess the number of books she had read since she was a child. There had to be at least a few thousand, yet she didn't remember ever reading about any such thing.
Before she could sink into desperation about what to do now, Regina asked, "Is this about the servants who have been falling ill?"
