I stomped into the house while fuming.

I stopped and met Dad as he stepped towards me.

/"I realize you’re angry./"

/"Angry? Nah, I’m pissed./"

My dad glanced at me.

/"I’m furious because people recognize my color and not me./"

/"Those people are ignorant. They don’t recognize that you’re an incredible person who brings joy to your dad and me every single day. We were ecstatic when we got the call about you and your sibling. The minute I held you, you and your brother belonged to us. You both made our family complete./"

/"Didn’t it matter about our skin color?/"

/"Does it seem like it matters to us about your skin color? We struggled to protect you, boys, from injuring yourselves because you did stupid shit./"

I scoffed.
