There were about seventy students and that meant fourteen groups of five members, but not all of them had to be watched by Aurora and Alice.
That was because some groups had their test in dungeons in very safe places.
In the City of Atlantis there were several dungeons and five of the groups were held here, and they did not need protection, since Director Vincent was present.
The rest were distributed between Aurora and Alice; this was the most effective.
Of course, it was very possible that nothing would happen, but even so, Aurora did her job.
She had seen Erica's group, Joslyn and Wendy with two other students.
Then she had also seen Andres, Cristian, and Eva with two support students, and then she had seen about four different group fights.
Each demonstrated their skills, some being more professional than others.
Others simply faced off with caution and calm, but all showed their skills in some way.
Not all of the dungeons were B-Rank, which were not cleaned for a month like their group, but that didn't mean the difficulty was lessened.
This was the case with Marc's group; his group was acting defensively.
With a psionic, a magician, an archer, a knight, and Marc who was a fighter, the group was very well balanced.
However, what they were up against were wolves in the B-rank dungeon, 'The Howlers' which was in Finland.
The beasts that appeared were wild and fast wolves.
That was the big problem for the group and although they were being protected by a knight who had a big shield, the wolves could avoid them and surround the group.
They were C-Rank wolves, but the head of the dungeon was a B-Rank.
A wolf with enough intelligence to know how to hunt its prey.
These creatures beat and ran making it impossible to follow him unless the group outpaced him.
Although the mage and archer made their attacks from a distance, the wolves were faster than them and more cunning.
"Damn it!" shouted Marc and jumped up to some wolves to hit him already tired of being held back.
Aurora stopped seeing at that moment and shook her head.
The professors were projecting the situation inside the dungeon and the screen had been expanded for the other students to see.
"I think you'll have plenty of work today," Aurora said to the young woman next to her.
For Marc to attack his own, he was leading the group to break up their formation and although they could win, some of them would surely be hurt.
"I hope not," Vanessa responded with a sigh as she shook her head.
Aurora hadn't realized it before, but among the group that had accompanied them were not all to protect the 'expedition' as senior students, there were also first-year students.
They had their tests and 'practices', Vanessa who had entered the support section was a clear example of this.
A healer who had come to demonstrate her skills.
Looking at the temporary camp they had set up, Aurora could see how the alchemists were preparing to seek information from the wolves to see what they could obtain.
The artisans were instructing the cleaners to be careful with their skins while the healing team led by Vanessa was preparing potions in case the situation was difficult.
"I didn't think a student from a combat class would agree to help us," Vanessa said suddenly and when Aurora looked at her curiously, she explained. "You know we're the 'support' class."
Her tone was weak and seemed to carry a negative connotation, but...
"Well, that doesn't matter... At least in my case, I don't have problems with the kind of support, it's more that I think they are necessary. Without them, it would be difficult for our class to survive." Aurora commented without giving it much importance.
At the Academy, she had not heard much about differentiating support classes from those who were fighting at the front, but there was a conflict between the two.
One fought at the front, risking his life, and the other stayed behind to be protected... There would certainly be a conflict and more when heroes were idealized as people who helped by fighting 'villains.
But the reality was different.
"There are heroes who fight against evil creatures and there are heroes who fight in other ways... What matters is the ultimate goal, not how it is realized." Aurora said with a sigh.
The healers, alchemists, or craftsmen each had their task and their work helping in their way.
Seeing Vanessa nodding with a pleasant smile, Aurora asked. "Is there such a conflict in the academy?
Vanessa's smile froze slightly, but in the end, she sighed and explained. "I wouldn't say that much, but yes... There are still people who think that our class should support those who are fighting head-on regardless of our situation."
Aurora blinked in surprise.
While Aurora had seen some that other types of discrimination like Marc with the demons, it was not as excessive as elsewhere.
"Well... Actually, it's not that bad. Those people are the same ones who believe that those of us with powers should dominate the world, or what they believe that all demons should die." Vanessa said quickly and then looked at Marc who had been slightly injured and muttered. "Even those who think the Falion Empire is an invader..."
Aurora just sighed watching the battle.
For that kind of person to get along with others because of a conflict of opinion was not so important... After all, craftsmen, healers, and alchemists were not 'scarce'.
"It looks like they're going to end," Vanessa muttered and turning to look at her group of healers, she ordered. "Get ready, we're going to have work!"
Hearing these words, Aurora observed the projection.
The group had some light injuries and difficult cuts, the professors had not interrupted because that outcome was within the limit, and the students did not seem to be interested in giving up.
Marc and his group were now finishing off the B-rank wolf and all his lackeys.
Looking at their enthusiastic and wild struggle, Aurora thought about what her new teacher had told her.
What was her reason for fighting?
******
Aurora entered the dining room after meeting her friend and returning from her small job.
She couldn't walk very far when she noticed someone approaching.
"Oh, Aurora, I heard that you participated in the cleaning group by supporting them," Clémentine commented as she approached and when Aurora nodded, she mumbled in a low tone. "Are you testing students for your group?
Aurora looked at her and Clémentine became slightly nervous, at her curious glance.
"I researched your group... at least a little and saw that I was among those to choose from," Clémentine responded and observing Alice who went to get a drink, she exposed. "I thought that, if I was good enough, we could be together... You know we work pretty well."
"I thought a psionic as talented as you would look for a more recognizable group," said Aurora honestly.
The truth was that her group didn't have a name and wasn't as well known, at least not in Africa.
Even if someone investigated him in the mercenary's guild registry, he would realize that his official record did not contain many missions.
Clémentine looked at Aurora and when she saw that her question was sincere, she sighed.
"I want to be a hero... That's why I entered the academy, even though my father and brother told me that this profession was useless." Clémentine commented with a sincere tone.
People who did not believe in 'heroes' were numerous, as this name was exaggerated for some because both adventurers and mercenaries performed similar tasks.
Why should they be called heroes and not the others?
"It's good that you have a worthy goal, but our group is not as easy as it seems... We have our standards of both values and missions." Alice intervened from Clémentine's back and when she turned around, she declared. "Although we are friends here, at work we will be partners and we will have to treat you as such."
Alice's serious tone and searching look made Clémentine swallow with difficulty.
Aurora nodded seriously.
She would invite students she thought shared similar values or whose desire to help was sincere, but during her stay, it was not going to be easy.
Alice knew this, so she advised cautiously about the situation.
While they were usually lazy, once on the job they acted too seriously and professionally... That was because in many of their missions not only were their lives in danger but those of others as well.
Their work was not a game.
That's what Aurora believed, but the reality could be very different when she had a partner like Alice.
Clémentine nodded in understanding the first thing, but...
"That's why I'd like to go to your group," Clémentine said, making her point and looking at the duo, she explained. "I can accept to enter a very recognized group, but they will take too much care of me because of my background and that's something I don't want. I want to take this opportunity to really experience what it's like to be a hero... or in this case a mercenary."
Hearing those words, Aurora nodded, but mentioned "There's still plenty of time to choose a group, you can think about it during the days that remain."
The first stage of the group test took quite a while due to the high number of groups, so by adding the next stage there was still too much time left in the middle of the year.
That's what Aurora thought, but...
"Today the groups report on the second stage of the test and when we finish that, we only have exams." Clémentine murmured, and seeing Aurora's expression she added. "And after that, we have the mid-year vacations where we do our 'internships'".
For Clémentine the test and exams would pass quickly!
Before they know it, they'll be doing the real test in the group, that's why she moved before the others.
Just by looking at the academy's social network, they would realize that joining Alice's group was becoming a priority for many who respected or admired her.
Aurora sighed as she heard those words.
For her, the exams were the longest and most exhausting period, she could cheat by asking the system, but...
—It is preferable that you study to pass the exams honestly.
Her system that read her superficial thoughts and rejected her immediately.
Aurora only sighed again about the upcoming exams and about her system that was simply very different from any story she had ever read.
Why did it seem to be too strict? Why wasn't it like before when she asked for it, making dangerous weapons appear to be used by a child?
—I learned from my mistakes.
The text of her system appeared in her mind and Aurora only gave a smile to her face.
Although it seemed a text without life and emotions, she could feel something else...
"Just ignore it, it gets frozen sometimes." Alice said that when she saw that Aurora had 'frozen' like other times, she looked at Clémentine and commented. "When the stage officially begins, we'll start picking students.
Clémentine nodded seriously.
