Before I could do anything with Piper, I needed help with something. So, I went to the one person who could help me.

/"Hey, Dad?/" I walked into the kitchen.

/"What’s up, Lex?/"

/"Could you help me with something? I thought that if I planned on getting to know Piper, I need to do it right. So, would you teach me how to drive?/"

My request surprised him. /"Yeah, I would love to./"

I smiled as he smiled. To most people, it wouldn’t be a big deal, but it was everything to us. From what they said, Dad and I were always close. When we sat together in his church, Uncle Nixon told me that having that distance between us was hard on him. I saw him as a stranger and referred to him as Nash, making the situation awkward.

While my sisters were close to them, I was close to my dad. Not knowing him broke his heart. That, in return, broke everyone else’s.
