The Ship

As everyone on the ship was looking around with a mix of confusion and fear, Charon had decided to step up and explain what happened from his understanding to everyone. Firstly, he picked up his two children and placed the both of them upon his shoulders so that they wouldn't get trampled. Then he looked around for somewhere he could stand and be in line of sight for everyone.

Seeing the way the bow of the ship had a raised edge above the rest of it, He gathered some Astral Energy within his legs before leaping over there. Arriving at the bow with a woosh, everyone on the front half of the ship looked over at Charon's white haired figure.

Charon looked out among the crowded masses. The crowd is a fairly even mix of humans, vampires, liches, wraiths, and even more undead. His eyes somber as he clears his throat and gets ready to speak in front of a big crowd.

Charon guided some Astral Energy to his throat, he had learned several things he could do with it over the past two weeks. One of those things is that intentions matter most when using it, as such he puts two intentions behind enveloping his throat with the energy.

The first intention was to amplify his voice so that everyone could hear it. The second was to have a calming sensation for those who heard his voice, allowing the frantic crowd of people to hopefully relax even when hearing dire news.

He hated doing the second part however, afterall anyone who specializes in controlling minds is quickly hunted down without mercy. Normally he wouldn't even consider using this side of the energy but he decided that this was needed otherwise he runs the risk of the children being trampled under a stampede of scared adults.

'I never would have considered that before, it must be my new status as a father.' Charon looked at the two he had decided to raise as his own before looking back at the crowd staring up at him.

"I was Prince Charon Vertigo of the Vertigo House. We have all been evacuated due to dire circumstances!" Charon looked out at the crowd, trying to measure their response to this.

Due to the slightly calming effect he produced using a mix of Astral Energy and his voice, the crowd seemed to be calmly thinking this over instead of becoming frightened. Taking a deep sigh of relief, Charon continued on.

"We can assume the kingdom will be destroyed by enemy forces. They likely will only aim for people of great importance and nobility. Most of you chosen will likely either be nobility or citizens who were key figures in Nekronis." Charon, having known his brother quite well, could guess that he would choose something along these lines.

Many of those crowded onto the ship began to nod in agreement to Charon's words. However some of those gathered dressed in more practical clothes, likely denoting a status as a civilian rather than a noble, began speaking in worried tones.

"My Prince, what about our families?" One of the men dressed in the common civilian wear bowed as he spoke directly to the prince.

"My brother Adam would know for sure due to this being his plan. However, due to serving as his adviser for several years, I can assume that your immediate family if they were in the capital should be somewhere on this boat." Charon drew upon his knowledge of Adam and his previous actions before replying.

"My Liege, how can we find our family in this crowd?" Another man, one dressed in the common clothes of a noble, questioned.

"I do not know, It seems if you were near or touching someone you likely would've been teleported near them. However, this is a ship which seems to be driving itself. I ask you all to find anyone you know and stick close to them, especially keeping watch over any children whether you know them or not. Once we arrive at our unknown destination, I will help to reunite all the families."

Charon watched over all the crowd which had begun to talk amongst each other, presumably to find any friends or family. A deep anxiety settled in as he began to question his leadership skills. He realized that the best he could do was to emulate his brother.

Hypnos, sensing his fathers rattled nerves, patted Charon on the head trying to reassure him. Charon decided to release the Astral Energy from his throat as it simply settled back into the sea of energy just like it within him.

Charon realized there must be food somewhere on this ship, otherwise there would be no point for what could very well be a month or longer trip. Deciding to find and protect it before others could, he sent out a wisp of Astral Energy to use as his eyes. Sitting down upon the bow, Charon focused purely on the wisp of energy which snuck through the crowd unbeknownst to most of those inside the crowd.

Slowly but surely, the wisp of energy snaked its way through the crowd until it reached the entrance to the lower deck. Deciding that it would likely be somewhere inside the ship, he sent the invisible wisp down there. He spent his time inspecting the lower decks which were also filled with many people.

Finally he found a door, behind which he could see enough food and blood reserves to supply them for more than a couple months. Deciding to lock the door for now, He sent the wisp to the door handle.

Using his soul to achieve what he wished, he sent the desire to fuse the seams of the door around the handle closed. The wisp proceeded to line itself along the seam between the door and the wall right next to the door handle.

The wisp of Astral Energy glowed before the wisp began to take on the look and feel that the wood around it has. The door was successfully sealed, unless someone decides to break down the door. Charon should be able to ration the food out to make sure it lasts however long they may need.

Breathing a sigh of relief, Charon watched the rising sun while thinking of his brother. He watched as some families managed to reunite in the massive crowd, lamenting the reunion he will likely never have.

Charon spent the rest of the morning calmly watching people reunite with loved ones while spending time with his children. He was grateful that at the very least, he still had some family. With him knowing his sister should also be somewhere on this forsaken boat as well.
