The Crystal Chime

In the dark of Stevens room a figure appears. Radiating with light a woman stand looking at Steven. She walks over to him. Steven begins to sturr and looks up to her. She smiles with a hint of sadness. I must still be dreaming. Steven says and rolls back to sleep. She leans down and whispers into Steven ear. Well my hero I see you haven't return yet. So I give you this gift of your old life. May it assist you like it did all those years ago. She stands back up and leaves a crystal chime in the nightstand next to his bed and like she appears she disappears. With Steven never even noticing her.

In the morning Steven gets ready for then new job he and Reis are going on. He notice the chime on the desk. He goes over to it and picks it up. What is this thing? He observes it and goes to Reis room and knocks on the door. Hey Reis did you put this in my room. He rings the bell while he ask her. She opens the door and see what he's talking about. She takes the chime from him and inspects it. Where did you find this thing? She asks. It was on the stand next to my bed. Id assume you or Frey must have put it there. He replies. Well I didn't put it there. So it must have been Frey. But why? She asks. She turns and goes to Freys room and opens the door. Frey sitting at his desk writing in a book turns and looks at Reis. How may I help you? He ask. She hold up the chime. Well did you put this in Steve's room? She ask. Frey gets up from his chair and walks over to her and takes the chime from her. This is the Crystal chime of the immortal hero. Where did you get this? He ask looking confused. I found it on my nightstand in my room. You didn't put it there? Steven says. Well it would be hard for me to put it there. I didn't have it. It's supposed to be lost. He says as he walks over to Steven. But clearly its been found. And it seems to of come to you. He adds as he hands it to Steven. Perhaps it has found a new master in you my boy. He says. As Steven takes it from Frey he feels a strange sensation over take him. What do you know about it? Steven asks. Well its a old chime used by the immortal hero. Made by a goddess. His mother. Given to him as a way to help with his intense magic. It help with casting spells that normal would drain someone completely of mana. However because he ended up becoming immortal it became more of a keepsake from when he was mortal. But it is still a powerful tool that you can use. Frey says. Well i'm not sure how to use it so i'm gonna need help using it. Steven says. I'll teach you how to use some magic. Plus we have some spell books laying around we can bring with us and you can read it well were traveling. Reis says excitedly. She goes down stairs and goes to a bookshelf and pulls a book of it and returns to Steve and Frey. Here this one has most the basic spells. She hands it to Steven. So now lets go get our order from the blacksmith She heads down the stairs again and out the door. Well I better get going with her. Steven says and follows her out the door.

They head to Yourmaha to get the items they ordered. They enter his building with him sitting at his desk. He looks up and greets them. Hello there. Here to pick up your new gear I presume. He gets up and goes into the back room. He comes back with a white leather sheath, a new short sword and a bundle of arrows. Here you are. And for a special gift I made you some magical arrows. He says as he hand them over. Thanks and for you. She hands him a potch.  Steven puts the holy sword in the sheath. Reis puts the arrows in one of her quills and puts the short sword on her belt. Well we need to get going don't want to be on the road when it gets dark. She says and they leave.

So do you like your nice new sheath? Reis ask Steven as they set out on the road. Well it fits me nicely. But this bags a little heavy. He replies. Those are our supplies so you can complain about that. She says as they walk on a path that is riddle with holes. So how many jobs have you done without Frey? Steven asks. To many to count. Frey and I Sometimes go on missions simultaneously. She replies. So I have a question that may sound a little selfish but how much do these job pay? He asks. It verys. Sometimes it's a lot and others it's more about reputation building. But me and Frey don't do it for money. We do it because if we don't then people will die. Plus being a hero to someone is a great feeling. She says. Really? Well I guess because I haven't felt it yet I don't get it. I figured you guys made a lot of money so you didn't care about the danger. He replied. One of the most important parts of being a hero is going where we are needed not where you make the most profit. That's what Frey told me anyway. So that's our motto. She says as she looks at Steven. She points at the holy sword. Clearly the gods believe you to be a worthy hero if they let you wield one of their holy weapons. Steven pulls out the holy sword. I don't get what's so special about it. It feels just like the other sword I had. But then again it's much bigger and I don't even feel the weight. He says. Well Frey used to tell me stories about his holy sword. I can't remember the name but it had a special ability to fight by itself. He could take on a array of enemies by himself with ease he told me. But he lost it along time ago he told me. How he wont tell. Hey lets try some spells. She tells him. He stops and pulls out the spell book. Ok so what spell should we try first? He ask. Well since the first time we meet you shot a powerful lighting spell lets try a weak version. She opens the book and goes to a page with lighting based spells. Ok give this one a shot. She points to a spell. Ok. How? He asks. Well you have to envision the spell. Let your magic flow throw you and let the chime. She says. OK I'll give it a shot. Steven Stands still and rise the chime up and rings it. A bolts of lighting comes blasting out and cuts down the trees that were in the path he was pointing. Well that was pretty powerful. Reis says as she inspects the trees. You know you are more and more interesting the more time I spend with you. She says. Well I not sure why I can do these things. But I guess if this is can help I'll try to figure out what else I can do. He says. That's the spirit. Me and you are gonna surpass Frey and that immortal hero Steve. She says as they head toward a sign that reads Gorna this way. Look we're almost there. I wonder what creature gonna be our target. I hope it's something that were going to be in and out with. She says. Why? He asks? Well i don't want to waste time on what should be a quick and easy mission. There's the town let's get going. She stars to move faster towards the town and Steven follows.

They enter the town. So this is the town Gorna huh. So where do we go to get this job started? Steven asks. Well a small town like this we will have to see its leader because there's no guild presents here. I believe the mayor's name was Klint so we just need to ask around for him. Reis says as she heads toward a big log building. This is probably the town inn. So let's start here. Come on Steve. She waves to him and heads inside the building. They go in. Just a few people sitting at tables. The room is light by candles sparsely spread across the in. at the bar a man stands polishing a glass. Hello there sir. Reis says waking up to the bartender. How may I help you young lady. He replies. Well i'm looking for you mayor klint. I'm with the guild and here to help with your creature problem. The already quite bar goes completely silent. That beast has decimated this town. I'm afraid you won't find Klint. For he has gone to the gods. I'm the town acting mayor though. So you the one here to help huh? You don't look like much. This thing will probably eat you right up. He says as reis slams her hand down on the bar. I don't think so. We may not look it. But we are season vets and more than capable of handling any monster or beast that we face. She responds. Your furnal miss. Do you want a room by any chance. I assume you want one more sleep until you die. He says. Yes we will take a room and I promise it won't be our last. She responds. Ok. Your room will the be the first one to the right up the stairs. I'll give you this adventure the last time the beast was seen it was near the west most part of town it killed five guards and Klint. Good luck and happy hunting. Thank you. Reis says and turns to to the stairs and heads th the room. Steven follows. They enter there room and set there stuff down. So what do you think that was about? Steven asks. There all frightened. I've seen it before. The town believes there doomed and when someone comes to save them they simply expect failure that way there hopes don't get up. But don't worry we got this. I may not look it but i'm capable of handling powerful demons by myself so some forest beast isn't a problem.  She jumps on the bed. Well we should rest up. Don't want to be tired when we go and slay this beast. She says with a giggle. Your not worried on the slightest? Steven asks. Well no. after all I got a powerhouse of partner who can cast powerful spells and wield holy swords. I actually pity the monster who doesnt know whats coming. She says. You have a lot of confidence in me you know. He responds. Well yeah. Look I know you're new to this world so you don't know how powerful you are but i'm not. So when i see you pull off these high power attacks I realize the power. So trust the me that believes in you ok. She says as she gets up and starts to change. Hey now. Steven gets up and walks toward the door. Don't do that if i'm in here please. He says. Why I don't mind. Plus it's no real big deal. She says as Steven leaves the room. Huh. she changes into her sleepwear and hops into bed and falls asleep. Steven who isn't feeling tired goes into the bar. No one but the bartender is there. Steven goes over to him. So do you know much about this thing that's terrorizing your village? Steven asks. Its scaled beast. With breath that can intoxicate you. Making you weak and ill if you aren't strong enough to withstand it, well then your as good as dead. Tell me adventure are you strong? The bartender asks. Well I believe I am. I'm told I have abilities that are not normal. He answers. What of your friend is she? He asks. Well she's a very caple fighter. She the one who teaches me what I know. Steven responds. That wasn't the question. I ask if she's powerful. Many people are skilled warriors but few are truly powerful. I ask because if she isn't then she will die. I believe this fight needs someone of a high power. He says. I believe she can handle this monster just fine. She stronger than you know that I can say for sure. Steven replies. Well for her sake I hope so. He replies. Steven gets up and leave back to the room. Inside Reis is asleep so Steven decide to change into his sweatpants. He opens the bag to find a new pair of sweatpants. He picks them up and looks at them. Did Reis make these for me? He says to himself as he switches to the pants. Wow these are just as good as mine if not better.  He lays in bed and tries to fall asleep.

Unable to fall asleep Steven gets up and grabs the spell book and his gear and heads outside. He heads out to the woods and finds a opening. Ok this looks like a nice place to practice. He says to himself. He opens the book and begins to read some spells. Ok let's try this one. He cast a lighting spell. It hits the tree line and knocks some tree down. I wonder if that was a powerful attack? He looks at the book again. Ok let's try this one. He cast a ice spell. A ice sickle blast out and hits as tree cutting it down. Ok this is pretty cool. Lets see. He looks through the book. He hears a voice. Call upon my lighting. He looks around. What? He hears it again. Ok then i'll try it disembodied voice. He rasis the chime up and yells: come forth holy lighting. Bolts come down from the sky hitting the ground and leaving creaders. What was that? He say to himself. He looks at the chime. What are you? He says to the chime. Was that lighting show your doing boy? A woman comes out of the tree line. She is dressed in a witches attire and a big pointy. I think so. Steven answers. You think so? You mean your not sure. Well who else could it have been. She says. Well you see I was just out here learning basic spells and I heard a voice and then boom I cast that. He replies. That was a god spell you casted. Someone studying learner spells couldn't even hope to cast such spell. She walks over and picks up the spell book. Wait these really are beginner spells. And you casted that? Who are you? She asks. My name is Steven. You can call me Steve i don't mind. And I'm new to this whole magic thing. And may I ask who you are? He ask. I am Opresa the witch. She replies. Ok. May I ask what your doing here? He asks. Well I come to see if I can rid this town of the beast that plagues them. And I happen across you. That's all. She says. Oh, well then we have the same goal. I'm also here to kill the monster. He responds. Well then let's team up to fight it then. With your power and my skill this should be easy.  She says. Well that fine but I already have a partner and I think i'll need her approval first. She's the leader and all. He responds. Well that's fine. May I ask where is she? She asleep at the inn. I'm out here training alone. He says. Well don't you think it's dangerous to be out here all alone with the monster? She asks. I'm gonna be honest with you i'm not really worried about it.he responds. You must be powerful if you not scared to fight a monster at night. Most people don't stand a chance at night due to low lighting. Plus some monster are stronger at night. She responds. Well you see, he pulls out the holy sword. This bad boy is the sword of the moon so i think any advantage they once had is now gone. He says. A real holy sword. But how that was supposed to be buried with Mandon himself. She says. Well it kinda called to me, and I found it in a cave. He says. You found a holy sword in a cave? Wow that's kinda depressing. But if you can use it that means you must be impressive so at least I know I have a strong new allie. She says. Ok lets head back into town then and make a plan. He says. But before they have a chance to leave they hear a loud growl. A giant scaled beast appears in front of them. It can be! That's a fafner spawn! She says.
