After a full week, Chloe had made a complete recovery and was able to take care of both her own needs and those of her babies.
Alex, on the other hand, was still struggling to fully accept his rebirth. At first, it had been hard to believe that he had truly been reincarnated, but over time, he began to adjust to his new life.
He eventually realized that the language spoken here was English and that he was the son of the current head of the powerful Lee family, renowned for their mastery of swordsmanship. Despite this newfound knowledge, it still felt strange to exist in the form of a baby.
As Alex lay in his crib, deep in thought, Chloe scooped him up, interrupting his contemplation.
"Alex, my sweet little one, look at those chubby cheeks!" Chloe cooed, pinching and squeezing his cheeks in an attempt to get a giggle out of him.
Her efforts were rewarded when Alex let out a soft, playful giggle.
"Hehehe," Alex giggled, trying to imitate the sounds a baby would make.
Chloe smiled at the sound, her heart swelling with love for her son. They continued to play until Alex finally fell asleep from exhaustion. Seeing that he was resting peacefully, Chloe turned toward the door.
"Joan!" Chloe called out.
A woman with red hair, dressed in armor, with a sword sheathed at her waist, entered the room and knelt.
"My lady, you called for me?" Joan asked, her voice low and respectful.
Chloe smiled warmly at her guard. "Could you please bring me my lunch? I'm feeling hungry," Chloe requested sweetly.
"It's no trouble, my lady," Joan replied, happy to serve.
Joan stood, bowed respectfully, and left to fetch the lunch.
Once Joan left, Chloe gently placed Alex back into his crib, ensuring he was comfortable for his nap. She pressed a soft kiss to his cheek and forehead, then stood and wandered around the room. As she moved, her gaze landed on a portrait of a handsome man with dark, long hair, smiling like a carefree child.
"I miss you, honey. When will you come back to see your wife and our newborn son?" Chloe whispered, her hand grazing the portrait as a sad, longing expression crossed her face.
"I miss you... Please be safe. While you're out there fighting, I won't just be doing nothing. I'll recover my strength and try to get stronger," she murmured, her voice barely a whisper.
Just then, the door creaked open, and Chloe turned around, expecting Joan to return with her food.
However, to her surprise, it was Zelda who entered. Upon seeing the portrait Chloe had been staring at, Zelda paused for a moment.
"Oh," Chloe said, thinking it was Joan with her food. She quickly bowed in respect. "Forgive me, Matriarch. I wasn't expecting you."
Zelda raised an eyebrow, her gaze sharp but not unkind. "Oh?" she replied, her tone curious yet laced with authority.
Chloe straightened, still feeling caught off guard. "Forgive me, Matriarch. I wasn't expecting you."
Zelda's gaze softened as she observed Chloe, her eyes flicking between her and the portrait. "Well, whatever the case may be, it's clear you miss him," she said, her voice firm but gentle, carrying a quiet understanding.
Zelda walked up to Chloe, bringing her in for a hug.
"I miss my son too," Zelda said, trying to console Chloe.
After a moment, Zelda separated from Chloe and looked around.
"Where is my grandson?" Zelda asked.
"Alex is in the crib, Matriarch," Chloe replied.
Zelda turned to face Chloe. "Alex?" she asked, unsure of what she had heard.
"Yes, Matriarch," Chloe answered.
"Too casual of a name for my grandson," Zelda remarked.
She walked toward the crib to see Alex.
"Let me guess... it was my son who suggested such a name," Zelda said.
"Yes, Matriarch. He suggested Alex for a boy and i Rose for a girl," Chloe explained.
"Haha, Rose? Your naming sense isn't any better," Zelda laughed.
Chloe's face turned pink in embarrassment.
"I came to see my grandson, but since he's sleeping, I'll come back another time. Take care, Chloe," Zelda said.
"I will, Matriarch," Chloe replied.
Zelda walked to the door, opened it, and it shut softly behind her.
"Phew, I still can't get used to her pressure," Chloe muttered to herself.
She walked back to her bed and sat beside her son's crib, gazing at her cute baby boy with admiration.
A knock at the door interrupted her thoughts.
"Come in," Chloe called out.
A cart of food was wheeled in, laden with various cooked beast meats and delicacies.
"What's all this? I only wanted lunch, not to host a feast, Joan," Chloe said, raising an eyebrow.
"Forgive me, my lady. The family physician requested I serve you this to help you regain your strength," Joan replied.
"I'm fine," Chloe said dismissively.
"My lady, the physician said this is for recovering your powers. She knows that you've recovered from childbirth, but not your powers yet," Joan explained.
"With all this food? Some monster cores would do," Chloe replied.
"I'm just following orders, my lady," Joan said.
"Okay, whatever. I'll just eat. It's been a while since I've had some beast meat, thanks to my body being too weak to handle the energy," Chloe said, waving her hand dismissively.
Joan smiled and nodded as she stepped back.
Chloe began feasting on what she could, and after a while, she was done eating.
"Joan, please return this to the kitchen. While you're at it, help me get some monster cores so I can recover faster," Chloe requested.
"Yes, my lady," Joan replied.
Joan left, and after a while, she returned with a sack and handed it to Chloe.
"Thanks, Joan," Chloe said appreciatively.
Joan bowed and said, "My lady."
Chloe went to the middle of the room, placed a carpet down, and poured the contents of the sack. Multiple glowing stones appeared, some brighter than others. Chloe's eyes went wide when she saw the brightest cores. These were precious.
She picked up one of them and turned to Joan. "How did you get these, Joan?" Chloe asked, pointing at the stone in her hand.
"I came across the Matriach while visiting the resource hall for the cores. She told the elder in charge to give me a bunch of those beast domain lord cores for my lady," Joan explained.
"Looks like the Matriarch hopes for my full recovery," Chloe muttered.
"Watch over my baby while I meditate, Joan," Chloe commanded.
"Yes, my lady," Joan replied.
Joan moved to the front of Alex's crib and stood guard, protecting him from any energy that might be released by Chloe during her meditation.
While Joan stood guard, Chloe selected a beast grandmaster core and decided to start with the lowest and end with the highest. She began to meditate, and a swirl of energy surrounded Chloe,Then...
