The Escaped Vessel

What is it to be a monster? What is it to be human? Is it not possible to be both, or neither at all? Malik finds himself awakened. Full of jumbled memories that don’t quite fit. In a body that he does not recognize. While he also finds himself next to someone that he can only call a goddess, he begins to learn. Guided by kind hands. He tried his best to assemble who he is from his own mind. But there are cracks. Damage caused by the weak bonds between body, soul, and divinity threaten to tear him apart in all that he is. That’s besides the gods. Their hidden battle goes unspoken but to their closest followers. The followers who are told that a great danger approaches. One that’s hunting for the vessel that was lost. Should he ally with these other god's vessels? Should he even fight the cultists after his body? This brings Malik to a choice. Accept the monstrous body he now resides in and grow stronger. Reject that body and lose his mind. Or completely give in and allow for his fate to be sealed along with his soul decimated by the eldritch god of the unknown. will he make this body his and everything that comes with it?

Skills: Active

Wyvern talons, basic dissection, intermediate mana manipulation, high dagger arts, basic cooking, tiger step, intermediate mana sense, Balanced mana meditation, high staff arts, elemental weapon creation…

Other dragon related skills are blocked due to poor development of the awakened dragon heart.'

' It is recommended that the host is able to properly understand the new awakened skill before proceeding with anything.'

The guide stopped Malik who wasn't sure what to say while he was forced to lay in the healing ward bed by the headmaster. Clearly the headmaster wanted answers for what had just happened.

'Dragon heart- passive skill

This is a dragon heart taken from an ancient dragon. While it used to have an elemental typing, that was stripped from it using mysterious magic. Due to this, the hidden trait that every dragon carries within them as a record of the original dragon, all elemental affinity, is awakened.

With the dragon heart, mana storage within the body is greatly increased as the one possessing it grows. This has been done in experiment studies with half dragons taking on an additional heart through dark magic and necromancy practices.

With the heart being part of the body, a draconic aura will always be around the body. Due to this, those with unique senses can pick up on this and identify the strength of a dragon. Other dragons would use this to show off their higher standing among their race.

Due to possessing the dragon heart, Elemental resistances are greatly enhanced.

Potential dragon skills using dragon aura and more powerful dragon related elemental skills is possible. Dragon roar, dragon elemental breath attacks, dragon scales, dragon boost…'

'Most skills are locked due to the weakness within the body of the host. The only potential abilities of the heart currently, is the boost to mana along with draconic aura. Lower and weaker monsters will naturally fear you due to dragons being higher beings compared to most monsters.'

'The scales on the current body are just the adaptation of the dragon heart. They will fade until the dragon heart and boosted divinity settle within the next hours.'

"I hope you have better answers than just silence. Your wounds are healing themselves. You have a regeneration skill." The headmaster still held a harsh gaze upon Malik. He wasn't sure if he should answer honestly or not.

"I got my class and I am dealing with the side effects of this body. The scales should recede after a little bit since I have not acclimated to everything."

The headmaster rubbed his temples with a long sigh. "You should understand that this is in no way normal. Most people with unique bloodlines or a rare race might unlock some natural skills. Skills they have which can only be used when they reach a certain level of development." Malik was following what the headmaster was saying so far.

"But gaining the aura of a dragon is not something that normally happens with a class… I should be more open with you. Malik, I know that you are not human or even any other known race. You were registered within the adventurer guilds' registry as something called eldritch vessel race."

"No! I am human!"

"Malik!" the headmaster shouted which silenced Malik quickly.

"Your circumstances are unique. A few of us, those that have stepped back from politics and prefer our positions in teaching, leading a guild, and even just offering free classes at a guild, have noticed a lot about you."

"You possess traits from multiple races. You were experimented on by a cult known for attempting to call their god to the world itself. And you are learning very quickly." The headmaster's tone slowly became softer as he looked closely in to Malik's eyes.

"Whether the cultists or anyone wishes you to do something, you are not that person. Who you are is a young man with a great focus on growing stronger. I have heard you wish to handle the cultists that burned your village. Learning at the academy is a tool for you. I understand that. The elite class is just a bonus for you."

"Whatever class you chose, you do not need to tell anyone. However, if you need assistance, I recommend that you go to a purifying place where you can grow your mental strength. You should also wear this, it's a necklace that will hide away your mana and aura with less of your focus. It is a training tool, not a solution."

The small silver necklace had a white angel on the pendant. It was one of the symbols of the church of light.

'Necklace of hidden light

This is a necklace used for healers and priests to help them hide their mana. The necklace absorbs a portion of mana from the user and uses it as a cover. It draws in manas from the surroundings to block the manas of the wearer.

This can also hide certain aspects of a race or the physical body. Some being curses, auras, or bloodlust. Depending on the user, these things will spill out more easily.

This necklace will break after one week of usage. It is used to teach the hidden presence skill.'

"Thank you." Malik's worries were still there, but he could recognize that there was not any evil intention or hatred coming from the headmaster.

"I will leave you with a little information and some advice."

"I will listen carefully."

"The cult of the eldritch god or the unknown is still active. The recent issue within the clacking skeleton dungeon was found to be one of their members. They are attacking the city in search of something. I believe that to be you. Someone who they experimented on. Learn what you may from that."

"The advice, accept what you are and who you are as one being. The more you force the two apart, the more that you will fall apart. You were human, I believe you, but they changed that. So accept it before you go mad. It's happened with vampires or werewolves. Most can still be themselves, but others go down the wrong path."

The headmaster stood up and walked away. Soon disappearing using his spatial magic. Malik just sat up from the bed he had laid on and felt his emotions conflicting.

The headmaster was friends with both the adventurer's guild master and teacher Jen. On top of that, the headmaster had followed Malik's growth enough so that he would be able to help. He had not held any animosity whatsoever. Malik could tell.

The news that the cutlists were causing chaos looking for him though, that didn't sit well with him. People could get hurt. People could become victims while the cultists caused chaos using unknown means.

Shaking his head, he looked at the system as well.

His class had become Seed of The Unknown, it held a lot of potential, but Malik was still lost. Yet, it had changed his race. He was still an eldritch vessel, but it had a note next to it that the guide mentioned as temporary. That meant he had stepped on the path to change his race from what he was. Potentially halting the mental corruption. Maybe even trying to become human again for real!

'The only skill received from the Seed Of The Unknown class is called; curiosity's boon.'

'Curiosity's boon- passive

There is a much higher chance that events, items, and other aspects of the world that are unknown to the one bearing, Seed Of the Unknown, as their class, will attract them to them. This will allow for growth along with unique situations to happen more often. This is a passive skill that will always be active as a core aspect of who the class holder is.'

As Malok understood this skill, he grasped a single concept. "This skill is a huge amount of trouble." That was just the fact of everything.

This skill would attract all sorts of unknown things to him. By relation, this meant that it could attract people with different skills, dangerous skills. It could attract items, dangerous curses or hard to control items. It could even attract unknown magic, which would also be dangerous! The potential of the unknown things was all full of danger!

'Meditation will greatly improve the settling of the dragon heart and the additional growth within divinity.'

'Mental corruption has weakened.'

Without another moment, Malik decided to take this time as an advantage. He needed to settle down the dragon heart which was adjusting to this body. He also had to ensure that whatever growth in divinity meant.

The divinity seemed to be the thing that caused him trouble. His mental corruption had existed because of that to some degree from what Malik understood. But he also saw that it changed the golem's mental fortress skill. So, it could also be his saving grace. If he could learn to sense it, he might be able to use it.

there is kindness in the world, you just need to open your mind to see it.
