The End of The World With You (US adaptation)

Ethan Matthews lives a very boring, routine life. His life is spent working at a dead end job as a call center agent, watching shows online or playing Games on his phone. When news of a massive meteor hitting Earth in ten days time that will wipe out all life on the planet, Ethan makes peace with his own fate and decides to spend his final days reading books in the library. It is there that he meets Riley Kramer. The man who broke Ethan's heart many years ago back in college. With the world heading towards its end, Riley hopes to win back the one who got away and redeem himself in the process, while Ethan tries to move past his pain and trauma and find the one thing he's been missing out in life, a connection with someone else. This is adapted from the manga series and Japanese Drama series of the same name. I do not own the rights to either series.

27. The Final Day of Planet Earth

Riley

We woke up around 6 am and started to head back to Dallas. We ended up taking the toll road which surprisingly was open and clear. We didn't even run into any traps or obstacles. In less than five hours, we finally made it back to Dallas.

The city was far worse than when we left it. There were buildings that were still burning, the stench of death and waste was worse than San Antonio's. Even the library where I found Ethan was on fire. I am so glad I found him before the building caught fire. I hoped the kind librarian lady made it out.

After fifteen minutes of navigating through the city, we made it safely back to the familiar apartment complex which didn't seem that affected by the pending apocalypse. We parked the car and I helped Ethan through the front door of the building which had been broken into and left open.

"Wait here," I said to Ethan, "I'll check to see if it's safe."

I went up the stairs and checked for anyone who might be waiting to attack. Thankfully I went up to the third floor, checked the hallway and found no one. I went back down to Ethan, who was still waiting for me.

"All clear." I said.

I put his arm around my shoulder and we trekked the three flights of stairs together and made it to the apartment. Luckily, Ethan's apartment was untouched by any scavengers looking for supplies or valuables.

"Finally," Ethan said, "It's good to be home."

The apartment was pretty stuffy and the air was stale. I set Ethan down on the sofa and went to the sliding door to air out the place.

"You know." I said as I opened the door, "I was going to sell my place anyway."

"Your place?" he asked me.

"Yes," I said as I had divulged my life before the meteor, "My company went under and as their sponsor, I was going to take the fall, debt and all."

"I see." was all he had to say.

"Either way," I continued. "I was facing this bleak future all alone, and with Dani's suicide and when I heard what happened to you, I wanted to die more than anything."

Ethan got up and went to the pantry closet. From it, he pulled out two water bottles and hobbled his way to me. He handed me one of the bottles with that sympathetic smile of his.

Looking at it, I felt something I hadn't felt for a while. Not just a taste of it like when I found the fob watch necklace. But the full thing. I was filled with hope, knowing that Ethan was by my side once again.

"But now?" I said as I looked him in the eye. "Now I feel like I would make it work out."

As I said this, Ethan beamed at me with those beautiful eyes of his and smiled. I immediately felt my heart melt with that.

Ethan went into the kitchen and made his way to the cupboards, "Remember how we met up again in the library?" I asked him.

"Yeah," he chuckled, "You came to return an overdue book. Talk about coincidence."

"Sorry," I answered, "That was a lie." He turned around, obviously confused at what I said. "I was actually looking for you."

"Wha-What do you mean?" he asked me.

"Remember that get together we recalled at my place?" I asked him. He nodded. "You said back in college how you would spend the last of your days reading in the library."

Ethan looked as if he were trying to recall the memory. "Did I say that?"

"You don't remember?" I asked him, "Because I do. I remember all our little moments together, Ethan." He blushed as if I told him the sweetest compliment in history. "And even though it was a snowball's chance in Hell, I took it and you were actually there. For that alone, I thank God for the meteor. Because of it, I got the chance to reunite with you and make things right between us. And now I can give you this." I went to him and pulled his fob watch necklace from my pocket and put it in his hand.

"My necklace," he said with surprise, "Where did you find this?"

"When I was reaching for the batteries there," I pointed to the area between the fridge and the counter, "I found it there. It was broken, like us. Throughout the trip, I was fixing it. Now it's done."

He took the necklace and put it where it belonged, around his neck. "I miss this thing."

"And I still mean what it says," I said, "I love you Ethan Matthews. Until the end of time."

"I'm sure life will give us hell," he said as he wrapped his arms around me, "Even if we survive. But still, I want to live on, if it means a future with you."

Ethan

Riley and I could not wait any longer. We made our way into the bedroom, kissing and undressing each other as we entered.

"I missed you." he said to me.

"I missed you too," I replied, "Now, let's do this properly."

I took out my box full of condoms and I set it next to the bed. Riley began kissing me all over my body as he made his way down. He closed his mouth around my fully hard cock and I felt like when we were back in college. It didn't feel like the first time in ten years. I never imagined ten days ago that I would be making love to Riley again. But here I was, with my naked lover in my bed.

"Give it to me." he begged as he positioned himself on all fours on the bed.

I grabbed one of the condoms and opened it. Once I wrapped the condom over my hard on, I slowly slid into Riley. As soon as I entered him, the familiar moan of his escaped his lips.

"Yes, Ethan," He moaned seductively, "Like that."

I thrust into him over and over, as he pushed back to meet me everytime. As he did before, he became vocal. Moaning loudly as I thrust into his tight opening. After a few minutes of it, I came and collapsed on top of him.

"You haven't changed a bit, Riley." I whispered lovingly into his ear.

I lost track of how many times we went at it or even how long we lasted. But we used a good amount of the condoms I had left. When we were finally spent, it was already dark.

We laid there in each other's arms, drifting off into sleep. I touched Riley's face as he rested his head on my shoulders. The contact from my hand caused him to stir. He looks at me with those dazzling blue eyes and smiles at me.

"Ethan," he said to me.

"What is it?" I asked him.

"Thank you," he said as tears formed in his eyes, "For sticking with me till the end."

I smiled at him, unable to contain my joy either. "Of course." was all I could say to him. We drifted off to sleep as I kept thinking to myself that miracles really do exist. I was reunited with the one man I did not want to see again, whom now I love with all my heart.

I didn't know when I had fallen asleep, but the next thing I knew was I had a really weird dream and my alarm going off.

I immediately got up and went to my phone. This is it, I thought. I picked it up and felt Riley walking towards me.

"What time is it?" he asked.

"5:28 AM" I answered.

"Is that the estimated impact time?"

"Impact was ten minutes ago," I said, "What's going to happen now?"

Riley hugged me from behind and said to me, "Either way, I guess neither one of us wants to die."

We made our way to the living room and together we watched the sliding patio door, which was covered by the blinds. We took one look at each other and held each other's hands as we walked towards the sliding door.

Riley looked at me and said, "I'm opening it."

I nodded and said, "Alright."

Riley moved the blinds, revealing the outside world to us and opened the sliding door as we waited for our fate.
