Coins of Worth and Trust ch12

In another room, Captain Zolo and his team were

discussing their plans. "We have indeed come here to

stay for a week in this village, in this remote area, but

we cannot let our guard down," Captain Zolo noted.

"I'm assigning some of you a mission. There are tern of us here. Five will take rest, and the other five will

always be on guard duty. The duty will be twelve

hours on and twelve hours off. Although it is a remote

area, underworld assassin clans are everywhere. We

can still gather information about the aftermath of the

explosion and the killing of the council member. You

four and I will go out right now, and you five take rest.

Let's go. We need to gather information about the

fallout from our actions." They left the taven, or their hotel, and stepped outside. It was evening, with the sun setting and the moon rising. They roamed around the town, observing everything and ensuring no one suspected them. Captain Zolo entered a bar in the town, went straight to the counter, and asked for a cup of beer. He sat down next to a man in a black coat and suit, holding a suitcase. Captain Zolo drank his beer and ordered another one.

He then turned to the man and asked,

"What's the situation outside?" The man smiled and replied, "So, you are the ones who caused that much commotion.Well, the situationis not good, but where you are is safe. The Supreme Maritime Force arrived at the scene quickly, but the bodies you placed there don't concern them. They need to make sure you are all dead and that this is real.

The Supreme Maritime Force is searching this

continent.I don't think they will come here, but be careful. As for the council members you killed. Your actions have put the whole assassination clan at risk.

But as a friend of the clan leader, we are sparing you

this time. Next time, if you do something like this, we

will kill you with our own hands."

"And the mission you completed one month ago—here is your reward," the man said, handing over a briefcase. "Fifty thousand dollars in cash. And take this," he added, slipping a small, intricate coin into Captain Zolo's hand. "This is a trust coin. You've earned the trust of the assassination clan. Remember, anyone you give this coin to will repay you with their life if you ask them. But always use this coin wisely; it carries a heavy responsibility."

Captain Zolo examined the coin, noting its unique design. The man continued, "Right now, the whole continent is in an uproar because of your actions. The best advice I can give is, if you ever confront the Supreme Maritime Force, just run. Don't try to fight them. You will put us in danger too. The Supreme Maritime Force is using every country's forces on this continent to find you guys, so be careful." With that, the man in black stood up and left the bar.

Captain Zolo stayed, sipping his beer and thinking. "Those bastards, those MFs, the assassination clan—what do they think of themselves?" he muttered. "I'm not just going to leave because of their power. I'm a platinum rank player, but the clan leader is at the rank of Diamond 4, nearly a master. That bastard is a freak and crazy. It's good that I didn't become his subordinate, or I'd get killed by him too. He kills his subordinates if they don't complete the mission."

He glanced at the briefcase full of cash and the trust coin. "This fifty thousand will come in handy," he thought. "And these coins—we call them trust coins in the underworld. They are everything. If you give someone this coin and ask them to do a task, or if someone accepts this coin from you instead of money, it means they will help you, even if it costs them their life. It's a gold coin, like in that John Wick movie."

"The value of this one coin is nearly a million dollars," Captain Zolo mused. "But these coins cannot be sold. If this coin ever shows up on the market or black market, and the clan finds out, they will kill the member who sold it and their entire family, even their children." With this in mind, Captain Zolo stood up and left the bar.

As he walked out, a notice caught his eye. It was a poster announcing the auction of Marina Bay Island. Intrigued, he took the poster from the bar and read it carefully. The poster detailed that Marina Bay, an island belonging to the kingdom but located in international waters, was up for sale. The buyer could own it entirely and even establish it as a subcontinent or subcountry. Because it was in international waters, the owner could do whatever they wanted. However, the poster also mentioned that netizens lived there.

"So this island has people, but they are still selling it," Captain Zolo muttered. He reflected on how the world had changed since the great war. New continents had emerged, and some people had become so rich that they could buy lands and turn them into subcountries. Most of these were just rich individuals looking for fun, but the sale of an island with residents seemed wrong. "These kingdom officials are freakin' bastards," he thought.

With a plan forming in his mind, Captain Zolo folded the poster and slipped it into his pocket. The idea of owning a strategically located island appealed to him. It could serve as a perfect hideout and a base of operations away from prying eyes. As he walked back to the tavern, he thought about how to leverage this new information.

After taking the poster, Captain Zolo walked back to the tavern, deep in thought. "It would be great if we could buy that island," he mused. "But as far as I know, we'd need at least a hundred million dollars to buy it. And that's just an estimate. The real value depends on its size. But I don't even have one million dollars. How can I come up with a hundred million?"

When he reached the tavern, Captain Zolo went up to the rooftop and sat there, staring at the night sky. The moonlight reflected off the sea, creating a serene yet contemplative scene. As he gazed out over the water, lost in thought, he suddenly heard footsteps behind him. Turning, he saw Alaric approaching.

Seeing Alaric, Captain Zolo was momentarily shocked but quickly regained his composure. "What are you doing here?" he asked. "Isn't your substitute in your room right now?"

Alaric replied, "I'm not feeling good and not in the mood to sleep right now, so I decided to walk around and come to the rooftop. I didn't notice you were here."

While Alaric was talking with Captain Zolo, he looked at the poster in Captain Zolo's hand and said, "Oh, what is that? Let me look at it."

Alaric took the poster, opened it, and saw the details. After seeing the poster, he suddenly realized that if he could buy this island, he could complete his first mission given by the system: buy land and become a noble. Alaric's eyes brightened up and he asked Captain Zolo, "Is this auction over yet?"

Captain Zolo replied, "No, but it will cost at least a minimum of 100 million, and we don't have that much money. The value could increase depending on the size of the land."

Alaric said, "Well, a couple hundred million will not be a problem."

Hearing this, Captain Zolo was a little confused. "How can we get a hundred million to buy this island?"

Alaric then took out two coins from his pocket. Seeing this, Captain Zolo was flabbergasted but quickly composed himself and asked, "How did you get these two coins? These are universal coins. They hold a very big value because one coin is worth at least 100 million to 1 billion. These coins are usually used for large trading between empires and kingdoms."

"In this new era, kingdoms prefer trading in these universal coins rather than cash. They realized that large bills were a hassle, even for bank transfers, so they created these coins. But the coins have some specialities. The coins you are holding are emerald universal coins. One emerald universal coin is worth at least 100 to 120 million. There are also universal coins worth 200 billion, but those are very limited."

Alaric explained, "As you know, I used to be a prince of the Aryan Kingdom, and every prince is given money to spend. I received 20 coins this month,I have used 15 coins in the month.I always carry the coins with me. But while I fell from the cliff, I lost some coins. Now i only have 3 coins. We are very luck that still i have some coins left in my pocket. It will come in handy now.
