Chapter 91

Before he climbed into the coach, Chance took off his greatcoat to cover Leander with it as well. Blackstone helped settle Leander as comfortably as possible and then got down from the coach.

“Where are you going?” Chance asked.

“My horse is tied among the trees.”

“You ought to be able to tie him to the back of the coach,” Chance said. Kit wouldn’t be happy when Blackstone arrived with them, but the man had saved his life and had been trying to save Leander’s. To Chance, that meant more than any rumors about Blackstone’s interest in other men.

“I’ll ride back.” Blackstone’s voice was impassive. “Someone has to inform the magistrate about Mayfield and the body has to be removed from Marling’s property. I’ll speak to them about the situation, but someone will likely call on you to discuss it as well.”
