The Demon Twins

"I've heard the rumors but you two truly look nothing alike." "Does it matter?" "I suppose not, kill me off then." "It's my turn, Louis." "Get on with it then." With a loud laugh, the giant man brought down his hammer. With a squelching sound, a head was ground to a paste. This story centers around twins, starting off from their youth they go through a gradual progress in getting stronger. The stronger they become, however, they realize more and more that they will never get peace. *** Disclaimer: Firstly, this is my first long novel. This story will be slow, hopefully, I can do proper world-building. Power progression also won't be all too fast. I have no editor, so grammar might be off at some places. Hopefully, you'll enjoy reading it.

Chapter 21

Despite the two having run hurriedly to the front of Mallory's room, they hesitated. Seeing the twins look at the door without going in, the maidservant who was often attending to Mallory smiled at the two and opened the doors. Seeing the two, Mallory asked about their day with a small smile. Seeing the smile, Arthur recalled the days where their mother had always looked at them with a caring look while they were in the slums.

Louis, however, couldn't manage to remember their mother's caring looks and asked the question on his mind straight away. "Do you really want to kill Sacra?" "It's for you, Louis." Louis revolted at the answer and denied doing such a thing, he could never kill his younger brother. "Let me ask you then, Louis, who is most important to you?" Louis didn't even need to think before answering, "Arthur."

"Great! Then you should do everything you can to protect each other, we are a small sacrifice made to those who will become greater," Mallory said while patting Sacra's head, who was in her arms. "How can we believe what you're saying? There are so many books which say that demons are both deceitful and manipulative." "That's right!" Arthur added on from the side.

"Don't you trust your mother?" Mallory asked playfully. "You're trying to kill one of your sons!" Louis exclaimed as he pointed towards Sacra. "You're right, I'm glad you two can think for yourselves even though I haven't taught you much. But don't distrust me so much, if you've read about demons you would know that all the servants to a demon king have to follow their king's wills even to their deaths. Not to mention, you'll be eating my hearts anyway and I'll be dead."

"I want to give you Sacra's heart, because there has never been a demon king with the ice element, in other words, it's a gamble. It would be best to take the lightning element along with your ice, for the insurance," Mallory said. "I've never heard of people gaining another element other than those with bloodlines. And none of the books I read talked about demons eating one another's hearts to gain power either," Louis said sullenly.

"Family is different, as long as you are directly related to one another you can gain power from eating a demon heart. And normally, you're right about elements. No one can gain elements after their birth unless under extremely special circumstances, but you two are different. You two were born with the potential of both a zodiac and a demon king."

"What about our human side, we obviously have human features," Arthur said, gesturing to himself and Louis.
