C8: Conqueror of Shadows

The two magical class wolves were as fast as Eric's dash, but it wasn't an impossible task to chase them down. "Ha, ha, ha…" Eric panted as he ran faster and faster.

Suddenly, the green-eyed shadow wolves jumped into the trees and used the support of the tree barks all around the forest to benefit the dashes that took them higher into the treetops. 'Haha… I'm better in the air, fools!' Eric thought, dashing into the bark of a tree and using the power of his bare legs to shoot across from tree to tree, right after the wolves.

Now, the fight was taken up to the trees, and none of them were no longer touching the ground.

They were jumping from branch to branch like monkeys, but much faster and more conveniently. This was one of the specialties of shadow wolves, especially the extra intelligent ones like the [Magical Class] ones. They were simply skilled.

Eric dashed through the air, and he was getting tired of chasing the wolves. He couldn't target the wolves spot on, because the movement of the wolves wasn't consistent. They were hopping from side to side randomly so the Vampire couldn't strike them down perfectly.

However, the only weapon Eric had wasn't the soul sword. "Equip Vladimir!"

The soul sword disappeared from within his grasp and a bow appeared. He dashed from tree to tree and at one point, reverted his jump and threw himself into the air, appearing above all the trees and taking his target right away, once again.

For a moment, everything around him slowed down in his eyes. His senses were at their top and he was a master archer, he could nail this shot of course!

At one single point, the movement of the two wolves aligned. He could finally take a perfect shot. He released the arrow, and at an incredible speed, the arrow shot across the air and ---

It went right through the wolves!

'A trick shadow! When did they switch!?' Eric hesitated and looked behind, only to see two wolves jumping at him from behind. "Fuck!"

One of the wolves bit his arm!

He fell with the wolf's teeth still stuck to his arm. The first fuck he expected had happened. Wolf bite. Especially shadow wolves who were descendants of the dark. Dark wolves have the fangs that werewolves have, poisoned with darkness, and yes… if the poison spread through his arms to his heart, he was going to die!

The wolf and the vampire fell to the ground rapidly.

Eric couldn't die like this, never. Not before he proved himself.

He pushed himself to his feet and started to run away from the wolves. Black blood was pouring out of the wound the wolf had given him.

"Fuck! Fuck!" Eric dashed across the forest. The wolves were stronger than he thought and more intelligent.

<You are poisoned! 40 seconds till your arm is fully paralyzed!>

Eric quickly hid behind a tree; he knew it wasn't going to save him, but it would at least give him a few more seconds. There were at least 20 more seconds left for the wolves to catch him — he needed to do this fast!

With his right arm, he blocked the blood outage. His healing wouldn't work on the arm because it was poisoned, the only hope was a potion!

Good thing he was ready for these kinds of situations.

"Goddamn this hurts!" he yelled, as he grabbed the potion from his pockets under the cloak. He quickly unscrewed the lid and gulped down the contents of his [Anti-Dark Elixir].

<You have consumed an Anti-Dark Elixir!>

<Poison successfully resisted!>

"One, two –" he could hear the wolves arriving. The aura told him that it wouldn't take them 3 seconds to reach them. "Summon Alucard."

Within his right grasp, the sword formed.

He swung the sword to his right and the wolf leaping by the side of the tree faced the blade face first. Sling!

<You have earned two rare souls!>

The other wolf stopped in its tracks. Now, since his best friend was dead, Eric highly doubted his performance. "Your friend's gone bud, so… you can hurry along if you wanna see your wolf kids or something."

The wolf backed off, slowly. Eric smirked.

"Just kidding!"

Two red eyes gleamed from within the shadows of the trees.

Jamie smiled and backed off. Even the other beta wolves backed off upon seeing the red eyes of their 'Alpha.'

"Fuck… Eric, hurry up brother," he said, backing off.

He was still holding his guard up. Slowly, the alpha wolf stepped out of the bushes and came forth. A large wolf, only an inch or less taller than Jamie with a black aura surrounding it.

However, the wolf didn't charge at him or growl.

Jamie was confused. 'Is the sneaky bastard –'

Jamie's thoughts stopped when he stared into the alpha's eyes. "Control… power… you are the king of darkness…" thoughts he never even meant to say appeared in his head.

Jamie smiled upon seeing this. His red eyes gleamed more. "Hehe…" he smirked.

"Well, you're mine now, pup," he said, raising his hand and moving closer to the Alpha wolf. All the other wolves gazed at this scene, curiously.

The beta wolves were savages, and only the smarter creatures would identify their true colors. So, the alpha understood who Jamie was.

However, at this point, Jamie forgot that he was hiding his 'Demon King' identity from the world. A dark aura was surrounding both the Demon King and the Alpha wolf. Jamie felt more powerful than ever, and his once blue eyes were now gleaming with red.

Suddenly, Jamie felt Eric's aura closing in.

"JAMIE! I'M COMING!!"

Jamie turned around, and the dark aura surrounding him instantly disappeared into thin air, and the gleam in his eyes disappeared with it. "Holy shit…" he mumbled.

The alpha wolf backed off upon feeling the killing intent coming from a close distance.

"ARGHHH!!!"

Blood sprawled across Jamie's body as a silhouette went past him, striking the alpha wolf at an incredible speed. Jamie looked to his side and exhaled. "Wow…." the alpha wolf was lying dead on the ground, with a long sword stuck to its body.

'My puppy…'

Well, Jamie found a new skill. The mission went well, and Eric had his first-ever alpha.

"So, even the wolf was scared of that [Old Eden Sword], eh? That must be one bloody sword!" He said as they walked back to Holly's inn.

"Mhmm…" Jamie smiled, gobbling, still wondering what would've happened if this vampire found out that he was a 'Demon.' He knew that he could trust no one in the world. Not yet at least.

However, they did get a fair share of 100 shickles for both of them. Jamie didn't feel right, so he broke down the deal to 50/50.

After the alpha was killed, all the other wolves died alongside it. The souls all went to Eric because he killed the alpha, well, there were only 2 more wolves left in the pack. According to Eric, the souls of the whole pack are connected to the Alpha wolf, so they all die when their Alpha dies.

The first mission ended, and they arrived back at the Village around 3 am in the morning. The two warriors walked back to Downwood through the streets. None of them had swollen eyes from lack of sleep like a normal human, because both of them weren't.
