Princess Consort

Zhao Yan was not used to talking to the madams with high standing but everytime she felt nervous, Fu Yanqing would lightly squeeze their intertwined hands to remind her that he was there for her.

From time to time, he would also say something and the madams who had never been given the chance to see Prince Jing up close were all fawning and full of admiration. They said a few auspicious words, congratulating the couple.

Inside the banquet, Zhang Yuan and Huang Yi were drinking and chatting together. Huang Yi's face did not look good. He seemed to be bothered by something. Zhang Yuan immediately knew what it was. He could not help but laugh when he saw the newlywed and Fu Yanqing who was not the least bit afraid to show his wife to other people.

Zhang Yuan was really amazed. Usually, the bride would go back to the bridal room after talking to the madams and the groom would go to the banquet to chat and have a few drinks with the men then it would be followed by the best part of the wedding which is consummating the marriage.

Most grooms were paranoid, they would quickly hide away their wife and not let her talk to other people. However, Zhang Yuan was seeing just how fearless Fu Yanqing was who was accompanying his bride to their table.

Huang Yi's became even more complicated.

"Her name.." He whispered.

Zhang Yuan answered him. "Li Zhao Yan. She is from Tang Country. It is fate that allowed Prince Jing and her to meet each other." He said these words in a low tone so others would not hear it. Afterall, most people just assumed that the Princess Consort was from the same country as them.

Huang Yi nearly choked while drinking. Zhang Yuan covered his mouth as he tried not to laugh.

"Young master Huang, it isn't everyday that I get to see you making so many different faces aside from your usually calm expression."

Huang Yi threw him a glare. "Chancellor, do you find it funny?"

"I do! I do!" Zhang Yuan answered cheerfully as he gulped down his drink.

Huang Yi shook his head. He also gulped down his drink and waited for the couple to approach.

Fu Yanqing looked at the two very meaningfully as if telling them to not make him lose face in front of his newlywedded wife. Zhang Yuan just found it funny. Before, Fu Yanqing used to ridicule him for being a lovestruck fool but look how the tables have turned.

Zhang Yuan righted himself and deeply bowed. "Princess Consort Jing, it is an honor to formally meet you. I am the Chancellor, Zhang Yuan. This subject congratulates you and his highness on your marriage. This subject wishes that Prince Jing and Princess Consort Jing grow old together and give birth to a noble son. I hope you won't dislike it. This subject has a clumsy mouth and can only offer these words to you."

Huang Yi also stood up and bowed. "This subject shares the same sentiment. I am Huang Yi, a medical doctor from the Medicine Valley. I heard that Princess Consort Jing is also a doctor. It isn't everyday that I see a noble lady who practices medicine. It makes me admire the Princess Consort." Huang Yi smiled dutifully but he lowered his gaze as soon as he saw Fu Yanqing's sharp gaze. He laughed inwardly at the thought that the cold Prince Jing was getting jealous over such a simple matter.

"It is a pleasure to finally meet Chancellor Zhang and Young master Huang." Zhao Yan said sweetly. "Thank you for taking good care of my husband for these past years. I owe the two of you greatly and will not forget your kindness."

Zhang Yuan smiled even wider as he heard this. Fu Yanqing, this lucky bastard found himself a very considerate wife.

"Not at all. His Highness has been a good confidant since we were young. I would have to trouble Princess Consort Jing to take care of His Highness in our stead." Then he playfully sighed and whispered in a low voice.

"Prince Jing left the country to find his little wife. I thought it was His Highness' way of escaping his duties but who knew that he would get married three days after his return. This subject feels very happy to know that after so many years of waiting. His Highness finally found someone to settle with.."

Fu Yanqung cut him off. "Chancellor Zhang likes to talk about a lot of unnecessary things. Chancellor Zhang seems to have a lot of free time. It seems that I was too lenient on you lately."

Zhang Yuan froze. He was only joking around but Fu Yanqing actually still dared to pick on him!

He looked at Huang Yi, trying to signal the other party to help him. But Huang Yi pretended he did not see him. In fact, his eyes were a little fixated on the Princess Consort.
