The next day was Friday, which meant school.
The first thing I did when I woke up was check my cell phone for messages. It had been dead for days, so I’d plugged it in before I went to bed. This was my first chance to see if anybody had noticed that I’d been away.
There were a bunch of texts, nearly all from Gary, though there were a few from Ronnie as well. All of them were more or less versions of ‘Where R U?’ There was also a very cryptic message from Zoe asking about an unnamed conversation that may or may not have taken place and what I may or may not have said and blah blah blah. I deleted it, then tossed a quick ‘I’m back. Talk at lunch’ text to Gary, giving myself something to look forward to that day.
