Awakening (III)

As Lukas walked towards the room, he could feel all eyes on him. Lukas paid them no mind and continued on his way to the room. He soon got to the room, disappearing from everyone's sight.

Entering the room, Lukas found himself facing three people, 2 men and a woman. There was a table in the middle of the room; a transparent orb on it. One of the people seated broke the silence.

"Come forward, put your hands on the orb and try to feel the mana in it. The brighter the orb the higher your score. Go on, start."

Lukas went and did as he was told, his heart pounding. He put his hand on the orb, closed his eyes and felt for mana.

There. He could feel it. There were stars in the vast world he found himself in. Each of the stars were tied to each other by a thin white thread. Lukas started to untie the threads tied to the stars. As he untied one of the stars it let out a light in the space he was. 1 star, 3 stars, 7 stars.

Lukas soon found himself lost in a trance as he kept untying the thread one by one at an astonishing pace. After the last star was untied Lukas opened his eyes. He looked at the orb which was shining very brightly.

"That's good, you may leave now." One of the judges said. He had a very excited expression on his face.

Lukas exited the hall and walked towards his seat. Louis looked at the result uploaded before calling it out.

"Lukas Kerr! S-rank!"

This time extremely shocked expressions appeared on the faces of everyone present. A whole minute went by in silence before murmurings broke out.

"What?!"

"S-rank?!"

"No way! Isn't the that the highest rank?! How can he achieve that?!"

Different expressions littered the face of everyone present. Shock, envy, admiration. Lukas paid them no mind as he walked confidently to his seat. He didn't expect to get an S-rank evaluation to say the least. He sat down before waiting for Louis to proceed.

Ayleen had a rich expression on her face. Her mind was in turmoil at the moment. She studied Lukas expressively, burning his face into her memory. She was supposed to be the center of attention! Everyone was supposed to revere and acknowledge her. It was supposed to be her at the mention of everyone's lips. Not him!

She could tolerate Noelle and Harry having the same rank as her as it proved that they weren't any better than her but not this! She took another long look at him before turning her gaze away.

"Hey, Aren't his clothes a bit familiar?" A girl asked.

"Yeah, now that you mention it they are." Another girl responded. After a bit she exclaimed.

"Yes! I remember those clothes. I'm pretty sure he's from the military academy! Only the military students wear them."

"Military? And he got an S-rank result?"

"Why not?" the other girl replied. "Look, my brother is in the military and he's being treated really well. They're taught properly and also taken care of fairly well. They also have a ton of resources at their disposal too"

"That being said I still don't think that's enough for an S-rank result." The other girl countered.

"Yeah I think you're right. He's really talented. Now that i look at him closely he's really handsome. If i talk to him you think he might accept me?"

"What was your result again?"

"D-rank."

"I think you're worried about the wrong thing."

"Hmph!"

Noelle looked at where Lukas sat and studied him closely. She did not expect anyone to best her result. There was always someone better. She silently noted his face before turning her face to where Louis stood.

Harry also looked at him before turning his gaze away. The test wasn't over yet.

Louis cleared his throat. On cue, all the murmuring ended and all eyes turned to where he stood. He nodded in satisfaction before continuing.

"As you can see, the first part of the awakening has come to an end. Out of everyone who applied only 160 people successfully awakened."

160 people. The number was pitifully low compared to the number of people who applied. It also went to show how hard it was for people to awaken.

"Now like I said earlier, they are different classes among the awakened. The 2nd test is to check which class you belong to." Louis said.

"Finally! The selection is here!"

"I hope i awaken as a mage!"

"Mages are boring. Berserkers are the real thing!"

"I want to awaken as an archer!"

Louis scanned the children who had ecstatic expressions on their faces. He smiled before continuing.

"The procedures are the same as before. You'll go into the room, take the test you are asked to and you will be given your appropriate class. Don't worry. I won't be announcing your classes."

The children heaved a sigh of relief. They were fine with the result being ranked but they weren't comfortable with their classes being announced. It was a relief that the Awakening center decided not to announce it as even if they did so no one would be able to condemn them for it.

"When I call your name please make your way into the room. When you have been given your class please head to floor 28 to get your new identity card as an awakened. Carrie Anderson!" Louis said.

The timid girl stood up and made her way into the room. A few minutes later she exited the room with a huge smile on her face. It didn't need a genius to figure out that she awakened the class of her choice. She took one look at the people seated in the hall before making her way out of the hall.

"Next, Casper Sky!"

Louis started calling out names and the people seated started dwindling. Unlike the first test, almost everyone who came out awakened the class of their choice. There were some unlucky few who didn't get what they wanted, but they were in the minority.

The name calling continued until there was only one name remaining on the list. The previously rowdy hall was now empty. Louis looked at the silver haired boy in military uniform before calling out his name.

"Lukas Kerr!"

Lukas stood up and walked towards the room for the second time again. This time he wasn't nervous as he had crossed the biggest hurdle and was now an awakened.

It didn't matter what class he had as long as it wasn't the healer class. He wasn't too keen on healing people. He wanted to combat the monsters.

His gait towards the room were unhurried and relaxed. He just wondered which class he was going to be given.
