(Matthew's POV)
"He's not who you think he is, Cassie." John says in a calm confidence as if those words were enough to sway his daughter to his side.
"Don't listen to him, baby doll. Look at me, I'll be fine," I call to her in a frantic tone that makes her frown.
"It's okay, Matthew. I trust you more than I trust a hair on this man's head. Besides we already promised not to keep secrets anymore so I know he's lying."
Her confession only makes it harder to breathe and I can only pray she finds it in her fragile heart to forgive me after this.
She looks back to her father who looks too smug for this situation and narrows her eyes at him.
