Resignation
Vanessa gripped her clammy hand against the hem of her shirt as she followed him into his office.
The thudding sound of her heart reverberated inside her ears as she stood before his desk.
She didn't know if it was because she was meeting his eyes for the first time in months or if it was because she was standing alone with him in an enclosed space that made her react so, but she couldn't help it.
"You should sit," Alex told her, gesturing for her to take her seat. He had read somewhere that a pregnant woman shouldn't stand for long.
"There's no need to." Vanessa softly replied, and Alex narrowed his gaze at her.
"And why is that?" Alex asked impatiently as he looked at her face, trying not to look at her bulging midriff.
"I came to thank you for everything..."
"You've thanked me several times already," Alex cut her off irritably, but that didn't deter her.
"And to tell you I'm sorry for the scandals..."
