Chapter Fourty-Seven

The sound of rushing blood filled my ears, drowning out what everyone else was saying. I could see their mouths moving, but that was it. What had he just said? The Imperial family? That was pure nonsense. There was no way on this Earth that I could be one of them. My eyes slid to Soren. His face was somber and deathly serious as he nodded to my unspoken question.

Had he known? No, he couldn't possibly have. He was just as shocked as I was just moments ago. The Emperor and Thalia, who I now realized was the Princess, were talking to each other. She was making gestures in my direction, while the Emporer looked like an admonished puppy. Was someone of such high status supposed to make expressions like that? I didn't think so, but it appears I've been wrong about many things lately.
