The Stray's Secret
Wren is a 'stray', a member of a pack who was not born to it. She's been with the pack since she was very young, it’s practically all she's ever known. When it comes to her life before the pack, all she has is fragments of unclear memories and nightmares of monster wolves and fear. Her best friend, Isabelle, is the daughter of the pack's Alpha, something that would normally afford Wren a semblance of status. It can have its perks, the thing is, Wren can't shift. And that has made her a target to be messed with whenever Isabelle isn't around.
Wren has resigned herself to how her life is, has even become comfortable in it, until a trip with the Alpha and his family to the annual Meet, where Alphas from all come together to talk politics and solidify trade and share information, leads to Isabelle meeting her mate, who happens to be the Alpha of another pack. Wren has an encounter with a wolf she is almost irresistibly drawn to, though she keeps it to herself. Being bound to another was never part of her plan.
Isabelle decides she won't join the new pack without Wren joining as well, knowing that without her Wren would be at the mercy of the other pack members, so the two of them pack their things and move to their new home, a pack known for having some of the strongest and fiercest fighters. And an Alpha and Second both with terrifying reputations. The first thing Wren does when she meets her new Alpha is making him aware of her secrets. The fact that she cannot shift, and one very dangerous secret that only her previous Alpha and his family are privy to.
Wren’s plan is to stay as much under the radar as possible in her new pack. Until the pack’s Second returns from an assignment throws a spanner in the works. Because he’s the wolf she met at the Meet, the wolf she had been so irresistibly drawn to. Her mate. Which brings her at odds with a particular female who believes she should be the Second’s mate.
And then there's also that nagging suspicion that a Rogue who is problematic enough to worry the Council is currently on the loose and could have something to do with Wren herself and her past.
