Shen Yun.

The girl looked to be around the same age as Li Jun and had long black hair that flowed down to her waist, her eyes sparkled with a hint of purple and her white robes were decorated with golden embroidery. She glanced around the room and noticed Li Jun briefly before her eyes looked up at her Grandfather.

Shen Yun, was her name. Li Jun had heard the other nobles talk about her a lot. They said she was the most beautiful girl at the academy, and they dreamed of getting to know her better, but none of them had the guts to even talk to her. Her bright purple eyes were something that stood out more than anything else; Li Jun had never seen purple eyes before; he couldn't help but stare. 

"Greetings Grandfather." She bowed her head respectfully and then glanced at her father who was still fuming with his face red like a blazing fire. 

"Yun'er, your father said he wants to change his family name. What do you think of that, my dear?" Shen Guo grinned as he looked back at his son.

"Oh yeah!? Well, your Grandfather said he didn't want any students when I asked him to teach you, but then he took on some random kid." Shen Tai responded quickly, he wasn't going to give his father a chance to use his daughter against him. 

Li Jun watched on, unsure of what to say or do. He wanted nothing more than to go back home and forget about everything he had just seen, but he felt like the argument would turn against him if he tried to leave.

"You don't want to teach me?" Shen Yun asked with a frown as she looked at her Grandfather with a thoughtful look in her eyes. 

"Yun'er, it's not that. It's just…" Shen Guo was at a loss for words. 

"It's just what?" She asked hesitantly. 

"I don't know how to teach a girl ok. My martial arts are all suited for men. If you learn them it could harm your body as you grow older." Shen Guo admitted with a sour expression.

"That's it?" Shen Tai butted in. "The reason you refused to teach her all these years is because you don't have martial arts suited for women?"

Shen Guo shrugged his shoulders. "I wouldn't want to ruin her potential by teaching her something that isn't suited for her body." 

"You have to be the stupidest—" Shen Tai stopped himself from saying anything else and let out a sigh. 

"I have dozens of techniques that are suited for women. In fact Yun'er has already picked out the ones she wants to learn. All I ask is that you help her learn them." Shen Tai said.

"I guess I can do that." Shen Guo grumbled to himself. "You should have said that in the first place."

Before the two men could say anything else Shen Yun interrupted with a gleeful smile.

"Really! You will really teach me?" She asked with excitement. 

"Yes, now stop fussing. I'm going home. Stop by tomorrow, and I will help you." Shen Guo said and vanished from where he was previously standing.

Li Jun sat awkwardly as Shen Tai began to speak with his daughter until his eyes scanned the room and saw that Li Jun was still sitting there. 

"You can go now." Shen Tai announced as Li Jun quickly got up and made his way to the door. He didn't want to stick around any longer, but it seemed that he wasn't from the only dysfunctional family in spirit city. 

"Wait!" A voice called out. 

Li Jun turned to see Shen Yun's piercing purple eyes staring into his soul. His heart began to race. There was something about her eyes that made it seem as if she could see into both his past and future. But he then realized she was holding out her hand towards him. 

"This is yours." She said as she held the golden token that Shen Tai had thrown onto the floor. 

"Thank you." Said Li Jun with a respectful bow. Li Jun took the token from her hand and put it into his leather pouch. A cold feeling shot from deep within the room, and he could tell that that city lord was staring at him.

Not wanting to cause any more trouble, he quickly left, guided out by Captain Lu, who had nothing more to say now that he knew Li Jun was indeed a student of Shen Guo. 

Upon arriving home, he saw that the house was completely dark and the maids were probably fast asleep. He didn't want to wake anyone, so he sat down in the quiet courtyard and closed his eyes. 

It took him a while to finally relax but after a letting his thoughts run wild for a an hour or so he drifted off into deep meditation. 

The crunching of gravel made Li Jun open his eyes, and he realized that it was morning already. 

"You were out late." Hu Mei said, the youngest of his maids. 

"I'm sorry, something important came up. I hope you didn't wait up long." He replied and turned to look at her worried expression.

"I thought you weren't going to come back." She said hesitantly. 

"This is my home, so why wouldn't I come back?" He reassured her but before she could say anything else her mother appeared and dragged her back to work. 

Li Jun let out a long sigh. Hu Mei, her mother and grandmother, had served his family for as long as he could remember. He wanted to pay them back some how but nothing came to mind, aside from the gold coins and spirit stones in his silver ring he was completely broke. He didn't even know which country the coins had come from, so he wasn't sure if he could exchange them for money he could actually spend. 

As he was thinking of a way to make some money, an Idea came to mind. From reading the book that Shen Guo had given him, he learned that some animals that were surrounded by spiritual energy would absorb the energy and become mutated beasts. 

Of course he had known the existence of mutated beasts already, he just never knew their significance. He had always thought they were just powerful bloodthirsty animals.

But he learned that mutated beast meat was worth a lot of money to martial artists, and there was also a small chance that the beast would have something known as a beast core. If someone consumed a beast core, it would give them magical abilities.

Li Jun's eyes gleamed as he thought of the potential of making a killing by butchering mutated beasts and selling their meat and beast cores. But the main problem he faced was that he didn't know where exactly to find them.
