Chapter 11: Director Goodsky

Cecil Leywin:

"Okay, boys, whoever lands the blow wins," Dad said.

Both Arthur and I nodded and got in our respective stances.

"Don't hold back now. I don't want you crying that your younger brother beat you." I taunted him but only got a smirk in return.

"What happened to the little brother that always asked to teach him magic." He replied and, with a quick reinforced dash, got near me, ready to get an easy win.

Side-stepping, I tried to land a hit on him, but he quickly reacted, and this continued for a while, none of us managing to land a blow on the other.

Me due to being stronger and already adapted to fighting in a smaller body, and Arthur due to his previous life experience.

"I think it's time we kick it up a notch," I told him, and lightning started coiling around me. Arthur looked surprised before smiling and doing the same.

I could hear the gasp from our audience when they saw both of us using the deviant forms of magic at such a young age. While it was the first time they saw Arthur, they have seen me using magic for a long time now, but rarely any elemental magic.

Yellow lightning crackled in between every punch and kick.

After a while, I decided to conjure ice under his feet, but I didn't expect his next move to make me panic slightly, and instead of conjuring some ice under his feet, I conjured an ice pillar that quickly shot up.

Arthur's eyes widened as he fell down, and I saw tears forming in his eyes.

I think I killed Mini Arthur... Sorry Tessia...

---

A few minutes passed, and with the help of Mom's healing magic, we managed to save Arthur...

"Both are deviants, awakened at an early age... Rey, you need to tell me your secret." Vincent said while looking at us.

"I guess the Leywin genes are just that good." He replied jokingly.

"Art, Cel, when did you learn to use the deviants?" Mom asked, coming to check for any wounds.

"It's something I just recently picked up, so I can barely control it," Arthur said, keeping a safe distance from me... Hey, it was your fault that I panicked!

They then looked at me, "Well, I unlocked it a while back, but I haven't had any use for it until today..." I said, scratching my head.

"Haven't had any use for it... The nobles would flaunt that they were dual elementals with two deviants, and here is a six-year-old kid..." Vincent laughed like a madman.

I think they all aged another ten years after seeing everything today.

---

I woke up the following day and spent time training with Arthur, where he would help me improve my swordsmanship further and teach me some of his techniques while Mom and Ellie were watching us from the side.

After finishing the training, Vincent came with an elderly woman I instantly recognized.

"Arthur, I know you just returned, and you, Cecil, already said you wanted to wait until you were the appropriate age before attending Xyrus Academy, but after yesterday I couldn't hold it in. Meet Cynthia Goodsky! She's the Director of Xyrus Academy." Uncle Vincent introduced her.

As she held out her hand, I followed the custom of greeting someone of high standing. Mom made sure I knew it, so I shook her hand while on one knee and bowing. It's stupid, but I don't want to anger Mom, something Arthur didn't understand and got reprimanded for greeting the Director casually. Something the Director didn't mind, but Mom did.

"Normally, I don't take a house trip to visit potential students, but Vincent is a good friend and has contributed greatly to Xyrus Academy, so when he told me about two prodigies, I couldn't help but get excited." She said, observing us, and I could feel her checking my core. "And I was expecting at most a dark red mage, but to think I would find a light red and a dark orange, especially at such a young age."

"Vincent, do you mind if I use this place for a demonstration." She asked, turning to look at Uncle Vince.

"No, not at all." He said and moved to the sidelines.

"How about Arthur going first... Vincent didn't tell me much about you besides both of you being augmenters and that I would be in for a surprise." She said, and they made space between each other, and I went and sat down beside the others.

During their fight, I observed how the Alacryan runes work, but besides having the runes emitting a slight amount of mana before activating, there wasn't any noticeable difference from our magic.

I also had a smile on my face seeing her surprised face when Arthur used four elements.

"..." There was a long silence after they saw it before Vincent managed to stutter out two words. "Q-Quadra E-Elemental..."

"I haven't heard of any triple elemental mages, but a quadra elemental mage, you would be the first!" He shouted and was almost about to feint while the others had their mouths wide open, not knowing what to say.

"I think this should be enough for a demonstration, right, Director?" Arthur asked, slightly out of breath.

I took some time for the Director to regain her senses before chuckling. "A quadra elemental mage..." Then she turned and looked at me.

"Sorry, I can't do that. This is the best I could do." I said, stretching both my hand. One with lightning and the other with ice.

Seeing me control two deviants, she started chuckling lightly. "One quadra elemental and the other is cable of controlling two deviants at such a young age. You were right, Vincent. This was certainly a surprise."

Seeing everything over, Arthur decided to make a deal with her. "Actually, there is a reason I didn't hide my capabilities today... There are only a few benefits I can gain from attending your school. One is learning how to utilize my deviants better. However, I can learn that on my own with due time. The main reason I would attend your Academy, if I choose to, is for protection. Right now, I'm not strong enough to protect everyone. However, you hold a position of power and influence that can provide safety for my family and me until I can gain the strength to protect them myself. "

"Arthur! How can you be so rude to Director Goodsky! How can you..."

"No, it's fine, Alice." She said and made a sound barrier around her and Arthur.

"I will abide by our agreement when I enroll in your academy." Was the first thing we heard after the sound barrier went down.

While I could use my connection to mana to eavesdrop on their conversation, it wasn't anything I needed to do now.

"Oh? Were you not planning on enrolling into my Academy anytime soon?"

"I don't plan on entering Xyrus Academy until I would be of a normal age to actually attend. I assume that will not be a problem?" Arthur asked, tilting his head.

"Goodness! That's in a little over three years. How about you, Cecil?" She asked me.

"Well, the same goes for me, and I have already decided to become an adventurer."

"And here I thought I could brag about having two geniuses at my academy next year."
