"So this will help you as long as you put it on, no one would come to know anything at all, to begin with about you or what you could be thinking of doing..."
Lavanya elaborated. The Princess strode towards the full mirror and hung the cloak over her frame. Lavanya watched her cousin through the reflection.
"So you are all ready to ditch the Prince and your wedding huh?"
It made Ambrosia stare back at her cousin through the mirror. She had never been ready...or in the slightest bit inclined to be hitched with anyone else.
"In your absence, I will be there, unfortunately, to see the sweet young Prince's face transform into some melancholic choir upon getting to know the news of his first rejection..."
As Lavanya continued with her bickering, it was obvious that none of her actions were aimed at causing any hurt to the Prince.
As the broad daylight turned into dusk, Ambrosia got ready to finally realize her week-long plan of escaping the palace confinement and exploring the wilderness to find the rightful alternative to the approaching crisis.
"My Princess, the Queen summons for your presence."
It made Ambrosia wonder as to why the Queen was demanding her presence at such an hour of the time.
She nodded at the palace messenger and she made her way toward the Queen's court right away.
The guards in the front opened the gates for her as she stood in front of the court. It was a private courtroom for the Queen and her special Generals.
As the metal doors swung open, Ambrosia came to a view of the Queen sitting on her throne, in the center, up on the pedestal, her face not visible, looking at the ground, her long golden hair concealing her expression that she could have been wearing at that moment.
And it made Ambrosia more concerned. What if she had come to know about it all? What was she to do then?
Knowing the Queen, she would not hesitate even for a second to make her a lifetime prisoner or deliver her the death that she had never thought of ever before then in that very moment.
Usually, the vampires could live as long as they wanted. Growing more powerful as they grew older. But many wise vampires had thrown themselves down to the deathbed, knowing too well that too much power never bought any good to the table.
It was how the War between the Mortals and the Immortals had ended. Too much power, no matter how much of it was put into achieving a good cause, always, in some ways, erupted a feeling of insecurity among the powerless.
The Queen if she wanted could punch her fist against the young Princess's chest and throw away her beating heart, giving her immediate death.
It bought in the images of the past, fifteen years ago, to the bloody wetland, her mother crying over the corpse of her dead father, his stoned-turned heart in the hand of his enemy.
"Why are you standing there by the foyer like that?"
The Queen's voice broke her trains of thought. She did not let her notice of her disheveled state. It could lead to suspicion.
"You called for my presence..."
Ambrosia stepped forward and the Queen looked up at her. Their eyes interlocked as she strode towards the throne.
The Queen was expecting to be addressed by her daughter and not the Princess but in the next instant, her longing had been splashed with cold water.
"...Your Highness!"
The princess completed as she stood in front of the Ruler of the land of Saunders.
The Queen looked away from the Princess and passed out a short laugh, climbing down from her throne and walking toward her daughter.
"The wedding ceremony is to take place in less than a week..."
"If this why you called me to be on my best behavior?"
The Princess interrupted her mother right away. She had no interest to be part of such a conversation.
"Then we are wasting another precious amount of time."
She tried to leave, turning away but the Queen caught hold of her, stopping her in her track.
"Brosi!"
Ambrosia could listen to the yearning in the Queen's voice, who was also her mother.
Before she could look at the Queen's face, and as they peeked at each other, for a short point, there was the connection, that had been broken or lost for months, it felt as if it was revived, only for the briefest period.
She always felt a responsibility to cater to and look out for her mother after the demise of her father.
No wonder she never got in any opposition when the Queen was passing out those derogatory statutes against the mortals living together in the land with the immortals.
But the wedding was her breaking point...to the extent that her own mother could forget to be a mother and take her daughter's question all too more seriously, not as her subjects, in the least.
"I reckon when you leave, Saunders will need a replacement to take your place as the Leader of the Slaying monsters and beast militancy..."
And Ambrosia dropped out a breath as she heard the reason as to why the Queen had summoned, letting go of her hand.
"I have the name in my mind but I could not make the final bidding without your opinion taken in the matter. "
It made Ambrosia wonder who could it be that the Queen was thinking about and it was no longer a surprise when she clapped her hands together and in came out Hamza and the senior members of the army.
"You got to be fucking kidding me right now!"
"Ambrosia language!"
The Princess snapped passing out a mocking chuckle and the Queen right away snarled at her.
"If he is the name that comes to your mind, the man, who had no remorse in leading his own mates down to the road of termination, My Queen, you have by all respect, might have just lost your damn wits!"
