The Archivist's Ploy: A Tale of One Against The World

Far above the horizon, beyond the clouds and the apocalyptic storms under it, hovered a yellow-haired old-looking man. His yellow eyes gave off a bright radiance, and countless books floated around him. Throughout history, the man was known by many names, (The Watcher - The Chronicler - The Historian - The Custodian - The Recordkeeper) But during this Era, he was known as The Archivist. The Archivist's perception inspected thousands of kilometers far and wide, Yet 'Nothing interesting is happening' His frustration grew 'What's the point of a worldwide perception if there's no apposite change to perceive?' 'The world has become mundane' 'And no one is doing anything about it' Ergo, The Archivist will take matters into his own hands 'I'll orchestrate a worldwide, All-embracing scheme against an oblivious individual' With a sinister smile on his face, he devised his plan 'Turn the entire world into a person's antagonist, Then enjoy the show' And he had the perfect plot for it 'First, Utter Despair that would cause immense Pain' 'Then, More Despair that would turn the Pain to Loathe' 'Then, As the Loathe grows, The Despair will transform into Rage' 'The Rage will make the Being Crave Revenge, and the intense Crave will result in Devotion to his goal' 'Finally, The Despair, Pain, Loathe, Crave, and Devotion will all be used as fuel for the Rage, Transforming it into an even extremer emotion' "WRATH" How would a single person unleash his Wrath against the entire world? 'That's what I'm going to find out' "AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA" The Archivist's maniacal laughter echoed loudly 'The world is about to be entertaining' He looked up and asked with a reverberating, Bleak voice "Who will be the unlucky one?"

Seclusion

Leus looked at his left hand and took a deep breath

'Just a small cut'

He thought that to himself and he put the edge of the sword right above the back of his left hand

He felt both nervous and reluctant

'It feels scary'

Leus kept taking deep breaths for a couple of seconds, Then resolved himself.

'Alright let's just do it'

The sword's edge touched Leus' skin, And Leus pushed it harder and forward.

Very quickly, blood flowed out of Leus' hand and dripped on the floor

'Clean cut'

The cut wasn't big but it wasn't small either

' ... Well, It didn't pain as much as I expected'

Leus started chanting Healing

The Neutral Mana around Leus started transforming to Light Mana, and Leus felt his control over it, So he willed it to cover the cut on his hand

The back of Leus' hand became enveloped in white light, and the pain from the wound disappeared instantly.

In a few seconds, The light dispersed and the wound completely closed.

Leus was amazed, but not by the spell itself

'Amazing!'

'This is the sensation I need to be able to silently cast Light magic!'

'As for the spell, It seems effective, it will probably be useful in the future.'

Sadly, Leus wouldn't be able to test the other two spells

'I'm not going to break my bones or poison myself to find out ....'

Regardless, He'd try them.

Leus took notes of everything he experienced using the new spell

'First, Since I evolved I became able to feel Mana much clearer and better than before.'

'I used to have difficulties controlling or feeling new spells, but now I can fully control it without any problem.'

'I wonder, Is this because the quality of my mana has increased? Or is it because of the evolution? Or both?'

Leus wasn't sure, but nevertheless, such change was phenomenally useful

'Because I'm able to feel and control mana better not only do I not face difficulties with new spells, but I should be able to master silently casting new elements faster than before.'

'Wind took me two months, and Fire took me around a month. If my theory is correct, Light and Darkness should take less than two months now.'

And so, Leus started chanting the other two spells, Cleansing and Restore. However, Because he didn't have anything to use it on, He'd simply disperse the Mana in the air

He spent some time casting all the spells to be more familiar with the Light Mana and the sensation he needed to replicate, and after he was done, he decided to start trying to silently cast it.

'Not having to spend a week training on a spell feels amazing'

He took a deep breath and closed his eyes,

Leus focused solely on his surroundings, The mana around him, and how it felt to transform it into Light Mana.

Time passed like that.

Leus was only concentrating on his objective and nothing else.

The room was very quiet, and regardless of the time of the day, there was no change whatsoever.

There were no windows, No sounds, No interference, and no disturbance.

The only thing that distracted Leus' mind occasionally was the feeling of hunger, But he managed to ignore it.

He was feeling progress, The progress was slow but exhilarating, With every passing moment, Leus felt that he was closer to his goal, and that encouraged him to continue.

A long time passed, but Leus had no idea how much.

Suddenly, He yawned and opened his eyes

'Ahh, I'm both very hungry and very sleepy .. How much time passed?'

He looked around him but well, nothing had changed

'Do I sleep first or do I eat first?'

After a couple of seconds of contemplating what he should do now, Leus decided

'I feel like I've been here for a while'

'Many hours have passed, perhaps it's the dawn of the new day or early morning'

'If I sleep now, I might get up at night and end up with nothing to eat, I also wanna check on everyone at home, It's better to go home now and return later'

Leus stepped out of the barrier and walked toward the door while thinking about his training and how much progress he had made so far

'Well, Honestly, Training is much more fun after I evolved

'I can feel the mana like it's a part of me, It's actually quite alluring and ..... Amusing? Entertaining?'

'Something like that ...'

'It's like when I used to get immersed in some fun activity in my past life, Like reading a book or playing a video game ...'

He sighed

'These things seem very irrelevant right now, Ahh.'

'Anyway, I think I actually enjoy training, I think I might even consider it as a hobby'

Leus exited the room and walked towards Arno's desk,

'It's noon, The library is very lively huh'

Every time Leus came, it was either around evening or after dawn and very few people were in it.

But now that it's noon he could actually see people walking around checking books and reading it

'When will I be able to know how powerful these people are? I need to learn it soon...'

'I think it'll be in that Battle-Light Mage book or something'

He looked at the people around him for a second

'I guess they're all Mages, Not a single one of them has a sword'

By now Leus was used to people looking at his hair, He understood that since its color wasn't common, people felt intrigued and gave him interested glances

But there was something new about it this time

'They're giving me creepy looks of shock'

Now and then, Leus would catch people eyeing his hair and then glancing at the emblem on his chest. Their expressions would quickly shift from curiosity to either shock or admiration as they looked between his face and the emblem.

Leus never really minded when people looked at him

'As long as they do no harm, they can look all they want'

But he'll need some time to get used to their new expressions

Arno, As usual, Was reading a book

When Leus came close enough Arno looked at him and said

"Finally, You came out of your seclusion."
