The Archivist's Ploy: A Tale of One Against The World

Far above the horizon, beyond the clouds and the apocalyptic storms under it, hovered a yellow-haired old-looking man. His yellow eyes gave off a bright radiance, and countless books floated around him. Throughout history, the man was known by many names, (The Watcher - The Chronicler - The Historian - The Custodian - The Recordkeeper) But during this Era, he was known as The Archivist. The Archivist's perception inspected thousands of kilometers far and wide, Yet 'Nothing interesting is happening' His frustration grew 'What's the point of a worldwide perception if there's no apposite change to perceive?' 'The world has become mundane' 'And no one is doing anything about it' Ergo, The Archivist will take matters into his own hands 'I'll orchestrate a worldwide, All-embracing scheme against an oblivious individual' With a sinister smile on his face, he devised his plan 'Turn the entire world into a person's antagonist, Then enjoy the show' And he had the perfect plot for it 'First, Utter Despair that would cause immense Pain' 'Then, More Despair that would turn the Pain to Loathe' 'Then, As the Loathe grows, The Despair will transform into Rage' 'The Rage will make the Being Crave Revenge, and the intense Crave will result in Devotion to his goal' 'Finally, The Despair, Pain, Loathe, Crave, and Devotion will all be used as fuel for the Rage, Transforming it into an even extremer emotion' "WRATH" How would a single person unleash his Wrath against the entire world? 'That's what I'm going to find out' "AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA" The Archivist's maniacal laughter echoed loudly 'The world is about to be entertaining' He looked up and asked with a reverberating, Bleak voice "Who will be the unlucky one?"

RAGE

Leus looked abnormal;

His face was twisted, His fists clenched, His brows furrowed, His nostrils flared, And his teeth vigorously pierced his lips, Covering his chin in thin lines of blood that were slowly but consistently dripping on the floor.

His eyes were quite literally glowing, His red eye glowing in a vermilion color with burning fire inside it, And his blue eye glowing in a deep azure color with violent waves clashing inside it, even more bizarrely, his eyes were emitting a strange black smoke.

His fists were clenched so tight his nails punctured his palm making blood course its way from his fingers to drop on the floor.

Despite all of that, Leus was numb to any pain.

He looked at Kyle and uttered a single word

"Where?"

His voice had a strange, deep, and guttural tone.

Kyle wanted to reply that he didn't know, but the feeling of impending doom was too strong for him.

He felt that his answer would decide whether he lived or died, at the same time, he was so pressurized that he choked on his words and couldn't say anything.

All he could do was mumble something incoherent that no one understood.

Leus quickly realized that he wouldn't get any useful answer from Kyle, so he turned his face to Scar

"Where?"

Scar felt the pressure on him increase when Leus stared directly into his eyes, He looked back into Leus' eyes and they were so deep, Like his eyes were a portal to some endless abyss.

Scar gulped

Luckily, he was much stronger than Kyle, so he was able to form words, albeit with difficulty.

"We must devise a plan"

Bones agreed with Scar, He mustered courage and added

"They must be confident since they're this bold, We can't just rush -"

Leus' expression changed, From pure fury to blankness, His eyes glowed even brighter, and for some reason, this expression was much more frightening to Scar and Bones than his enraged expression.

He walked out of the house and walked in the direction Scar pointed at in the morning, the east, Heading toward The Butchers' territory.

Scar and Bones quickly followed him, and a couple of seconds after Leus left, Kyle felt the pressure disappear, so he ran behind them.

Scar was trying to convince Leus to calm down and wait

"Leus, I know you are strong, but the Butchers are many and they could be individually stronger than me"

But Leus didn't care or reply, He just kept walking forward

As they were getting closer to The Butchers' territory, Scar and Bones realized that there was no point in trying to stop Leus.

'He won't stop'

Bones spoke to Scar

"This might be our best chance anyway, The kid is leaving soon and the three of us are better than only the two of us"

Scar sighed

Originally, He assessed Leus' power as the power of 5 guys on Scar's level.

He assumed that Leus could, at least, take care of 4 to 5 guys at the same time with his magic and sword skills.

However, he was certain that The Butchers were more than ready for their attack, They knew of Leus' existence and still attacked, They already knew about Scar and Bones too.

'They are not stupid'

That's why he was reluctant about blindly attacking them in a fit of rage.

'But ... it's not like I have a choice.'

Bones and Scar tightly gripped their swords and followed Leus.

Kyle didn't have any weapon so he picked a rock and a piece of wood from the ground to arm himself and followed behind them.

After a bit of walking, they entered The Butchers' territory.

Leus activated Advanced Mana Vision and kept moving forward,

His mind was consumed by a single thought

'They must DIE!'

The four of them reached a crossroads and Leus didn't know which direction to take, so he looked around him.

Scar quickly noticed that and pointed at the left

"Leus, This way.

They'll be at the end to the right from here, It's their base"

Leus didn't react and just followed the directions.

Scar gestured with his hand to Bones and Kyle to come in front of Leus.

He managed to improvise a plan

'If we want to have at least a 1% chance of winning then we have to keep Leus alive.'

Bones and Kyle immediately understood what Scar meant and quickly moved in front of Leus

Leus didn't care, or maybe didn't notice?

His mind was occupied by only his goal, Finding and Killing The Butchers.

They reached the end of the street and then turned right as Scar said, and Leus was able to see their auras from afar.

'7 Soldiers and 9 Mortals'

A total of 16 guys were standing in what seemed like a big clearing.

They were gathered in a circle and loudly discussing something, some carried swords, some carried knives, and some carried wooden sticks.

It was a moonless night, and there was a long street between them, so The Butchers didn't initially notice Scar's party.

Scar's party, on the other hand, was able to hear them arguing from across the street.

One of the guys standing among the Butchers and facing Scar's group pointed forward and loudly said

"What's that light"

Two small orbs of red and blue light were slowly approaching them from across the street.

The illumination was so clear in the darkness so it was quickly noticed, Ruining any chance of a surprise attack.

They all held their weapons and looked in the direction of Scar's party,

When they came close enough, Scar was able to recognize their faces, and he wasn't happy about it.

'The Butchers made an alliance with The Gizmos ... '

The realization hit him like a truck

'They attacked because there's no way for them to lose!'

There were too many enemies for Scar to even hope to get out of the fight alive, Let alone win.

As Scar was in his dilemma, a dark-haired man who seemed to be in his 30s stepped forward and spoke in a calm tone

"Oh, Scar!

How nice of you to come here, we were just discussing when and where to attack you."

A wide grin appeared on the man's face

"Since you saved us the trouble, your death will be swift."
