The Archivist's Ploy: A Tale of One Against The World

Far above the horizon, beyond the clouds and the apocalyptic storms under it, hovered a yellow-haired old-looking man. His yellow eyes gave off a bright radiance, and countless books floated around him. Throughout history, the man was known by many names, (The Watcher - The Chronicler - The Historian - The Custodian - The Recordkeeper) But during this Era, he was known as The Archivist. The Archivist's perception inspected thousands of kilometers far and wide, Yet 'Nothing interesting is happening' His frustration grew 'What's the point of a worldwide perception if there's no apposite change to perceive?' 'The world has become mundane' 'And no one is doing anything about it' Ergo, The Archivist will take matters into his own hands 'I'll orchestrate a worldwide, All-embracing scheme against an oblivious individual' With a sinister smile on his face, he devised his plan 'Turn the entire world into a person's antagonist, Then enjoy the show' And he had the perfect plot for it 'First, Utter Despair that would cause immense Pain' 'Then, More Despair that would turn the Pain to Loathe' 'Then, As the Loathe grows, The Despair will transform into Rage' 'The Rage will make the Being Crave Revenge, and the intense Crave will result in Devotion to his goal' 'Finally, The Despair, Pain, Loathe, Crave, and Devotion will all be used as fuel for the Rage, Transforming it into an even extremer emotion' "WRATH" How would a single person unleash his Wrath against the entire world? 'That's what I'm going to find out' "AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA" The Archivist's maniacal laughter echoed loudly 'The world is about to be entertaining' He looked up and asked with a reverberating, Bleak voice "Who will be the unlucky one?"

Mansion System 2

The soda was cold and refreshing, Leus enjoyed eating the delicious food and drinking the cold soda while Gabriel was pouring his heart out trying to explain all the details regarding the Mansion's System.

"Please Gabriel, eat and drink as well, I'm not enjoying watching you stare at me while I eat."

Gabriel was reluctant, but he complied and began eating more

"The food is very good, Young Lord"

"Call me Leus"

"The food is very good, Leus"

Leus chuckled

"I see, I'll tell the maid when she comes again"

They both quietly ate for some time then Leus asked

"So why is it like that? I can't spend my money on doing what I want without being punished?"

"Because if you got everything you wanted, then there would be no point in the Point System.

Also, The Red Mansion's policy favors actual experience rather than theories.

Dueling gives you real combat experience against various enemies, it also creates a competitive environment that encourages growth.

Ultimately, The Red Mansion gains nothing from the Points System, it's only designed to help you and the rest of the residents become stronger."

Leus nodded

"I see, so how does dueling work?"

"Dueling is Point based.

With your points, you can duel any Resident in the Mansion except Light users.

You can even ask to duel the Duke himself if you have 100,000 points"

"One hundred thousand? Isn't that too much? I'm only getting a 100?"

Gabriel shrugged

"I have no say in the prices"

Then he continued

"The minimum price to put up a duel is 100 Points, if you lose, your opponent takes your points, if you win, you take his points.

You can (Put Up) Dueling requests from 100 to 999 Points.

Once you have 1,000 points, you can force duels on other Residents, however, there are conditions"

" ... Elaborate"

"With 1,000 points you can force any individual in the same Realm as you to duel you if they have less than 5,000 Points.

They can't refuse because refusing a forced duel is akin to losing.

In case your opponent does not have enough points, then you'll take whatever he has and the Financing department will add the rest for you, while his balance will become negative.

Once an individual's points reach below negative 5,000, he loses his right to reside in the Mansion, therefor he might be kicked"

"Oh? Interesting, I didn't hear about that before"

"It should've been written in your contract, the case could also be different for you, but I wouldn't rely on that.

Once a Resident reaches below 5,000 then he basically can't survive in the Mansion anymore.

He can not accept duels nor create ones, he can not take a Point Loan from the department, and he loses his monthly funds, it's a terrible position to be in."

Then Gabriel snapped his fingers as if he had forgotten something

"Oh right, every ten points equals a Gold Coin, you can convert your points anytime from the Financing department.

But you must know that it is a one-way transaction, you can not convert Gold to Points."

Leus scratched his chin in thought

"Hmm, so now I have 100 Points, Right?"

Gabriel nodded

"Yes, and 5 Gold Coins"

"I can not spend the 5 Gold Coins to buy a book or hire a tutor you said, right?"

"Correct"

"Alright, I'd like to buy a book about Skills from the Mansion, or hire a tutor that can help me unlock my Skill"

"Prices start from 200 to 5,000"

Leus snorted

"Pfffffff, 5,000? Why? Am I going to hire the Duke himself?"

Gabriel quickly said

"Please mind your language Young Lord, I could get fired, or worse, executed, for such behavior ...

5,000 is the highest price, and tutors usually cost far less than that.

With 5,000 you can force fellow residents to attend a session with you, however, they might refuse to talk or answer any of your questions during the session"

Leus' head began spinning

"Gabriel ... can we focus on the subject at hand?"

"What is it? Young Lord"

"Is there a book about Skills available that I can buy? And what's the price of the cheapest tutor in the Mansion who knows how to unlock a Skill?"

"On the Mansion's second floor, you can find the Mansion's Library, it has many books about many things.

I'm not certain if it has a book that will fit your criteria, but it will probably have it.

The price of the book depends on what it offers.

As for tutors, you can find them on the Mansion's second floor as well, the prices start from 200 Points to 5,000."

After thinking about it for a couple of seconds Leus realized

"This means that there is no way for me to get a tutor unless I win at least one duel"

"That's correct"

"How bothersome ... Fine, how to participate in a duel then?"

"With 100 Points, you can put up a dueling request and wait for someone to accept it. When someone does, you will be contacted with the date and time, and a referee will be hired for the duel."

Leus didn't like what he was hearing

"So there's a chance that no one will accept my duel?"

Gabriel nodded

"Of course, it is not a forced duel.

Once you collect 1,000 points you won't have to worry about that"

'Knights can't see my aura, but are there even any knights here? I'm sure there aren't ... so there will only be Mages and Elite Knights.'

'Any sane Mage or weak Elite who sees my aura will realize that I'm too powerful for them and won't duel me, that'd be bothersome ...'

All Leus wanted was a single duel so he could hire someone to help him unlock his Skill.

'Fine, I'll just use the Abstract of Concealment until I win my first duel'

He looked at Gabriel and said

"Thanks for your help"

Gabriel stood and bowed

"Anytime, Young Lord"

"You don't have to leave so fast, you can eat first"

"Thank you, but I already ate enough"

Leus looked at Gabriel's plate, he only finished about 20-25% of his chicken.

"Well, it's your wish"

Gabriel politely bowed again then left.

Leus looked around him

'Hmm, I'll call the maid to take the plates, Then I'll call the Adminstration Department and put up a duel.'

'After that, I'll go home.'
