The Archivist's Ploy: A Tale of One Against The World

Far above the horizon, beyond the clouds and the apocalyptic storms under it, hovered a yellow-haired old-looking man. His yellow eyes gave off a bright radiance, and countless books floated around him. Throughout history, the man was known by many names, (The Watcher - The Chronicler - The Historian - The Custodian - The Recordkeeper) But during this Era, he was known as The Archivist. The Archivist's perception inspected thousands of kilometers far and wide, Yet 'Nothing interesting is happening' His frustration grew 'What's the point of a worldwide perception if there's no apposite change to perceive?' 'The world has become mundane' 'And no one is doing anything about it' Ergo, The Archivist will take matters into his own hands 'I'll orchestrate a worldwide, All-embracing scheme against an oblivious individual' With a sinister smile on his face, he devised his plan 'Turn the entire world into a person's antagonist, Then enjoy the show' And he had the perfect plot for it 'First, Utter Despair that would cause immense Pain' 'Then, More Despair that would turn the Pain to Loathe' 'Then, As the Loathe grows, The Despair will transform into Rage' 'The Rage will make the Being Crave Revenge, and the intense Crave will result in Devotion to his goal' 'Finally, The Despair, Pain, Loathe, Crave, and Devotion will all be used as fuel for the Rage, Transforming it into an even extremer emotion' "WRATH" How would a single person unleash his Wrath against the entire world? 'That's what I'm going to find out' "AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA" The Archivist's maniacal laughter echoed loudly 'The world is about to be entertaining' He looked up and asked with a reverberating, Bleak voice "Who will be the unlucky one?"

Aftermath POV2 (II)

Kye quickly looked in the sound's direction, only to see Phoenix glaring at him with scary eyes.

He quickly fixed his posture and spoke

"Commander!"

"You called me, then kept quiet. What is it that you want?"

"Ah, yes, sorry, I got distracted"

He glanced at the wrapped body then asked

"What do we do with the body, Sir?"

Phoenix loudly sighed

'Right, I have to take care of that'

"First of all, We need to talk about what happened"

When Phoenix said that, both Kye and Elio looked at each other in confusion and then looked back at Phoenix.

Phoenix didn't care and continued

"Forget everything you saw.

Don't dare to say a word about it to anyone. Publicly, we will say that he died bravely on a mission. His family will be compensated according to that as well.

If someone asks you for details just say that you don't know and that this is what you heard, and if his family isn't convinced or satisfied tell them to meet me, and I'll take care of it."

Kye and Elio simultaneously nodded

"Understood"

With that out of the way, Phoenix pointed at Elio

"You"

"Yes, Commander!"

"That man who was in the office with you, who was that again?"

"My superior, Sir Otto!"

"Right. Tell him to inform the family and bury the body, then tell him to come to my office."

'I'll need a new idiot to lead the Department for a while'

Phoenix thought that to himself then turned around and was about to leave,

but once again, he was called

"B- But Commander"

"What now?"

Although his voice was still calm, Phoenix's expression was so angry that it looked like smoke would come out of his ears at any moment.

Seeing that, Elio almost choked on his words, but he controlled himself and spoke

"It's n- night, remember when you told him to go home? He has probably left since then, what do we do with the body now?"

Phoenix resisted the urge to punch someone's face and said

"Figure it out. Go to his house or bury it yourself, I don't care, just do something useful for once."

'Imagine that an idiot died for standing for such idiots ... The world is full of idiots'

He turned around and left, this time, no one dared to stop him.

Phoenix walked towards The Citadel, as it was night, almost no one was at its main gate, still, Phoenix entered from the other gate.

As soon as the knights saw him they recognized him, he didn't need to introduce himself, they opened the gate and he walked through it.

He silently made his way up, but instead of going to his residence, The Keep, he walked in a different direction.

Eventually, Phoenix stood in front of a door, on it there was a sign

(The Quartermaster, Head of the Internal Resources Department: Breena)

Phoenix knocked on the door, then a sweet female sound came from inside

"Enter"

Phoenix sighed

He opened the door and entered.

The room was quite big, and its interior was fancy and elegant.

A big desk, an expensive sofa, a big wardrobe, some swords hanging on the wall, and a huge mirror in the corner.

Breena was sitting behind her desk, still wearing an armor.

In front of her, there were tons and tons of papers.

As soon as she saw Phoenix she got flustered for a second, then stood up and saluted

"Captain!"

Phoenix waved his hand and closed the door behind him, then walked closer to her desk

"Sit down"

He spoke in a calm tone.

Breena sat down.

She seemed nervous, but that was just normal, after all, her boss suddenly walked into her office and she had no idea why.

Phoenix spoke calmly as if he was talking about the weather

"Kasai has passed away in a mission."

At first, Breena didn't understand what Phoenix was saying.

It took her a couple of seconds to process what she just heard.

After that, she understood, and she didn't want to believe it.

"Is this some kind of a joke?"

"I'm sorry, that's not the case, he died."

Breena's eyes opened wide, tears flowed down her cheeks and she spoke in a shaky voice

"H- How? What happened?!"

Phoenix maintained his calm tone

"He died in a mission"

"What do you mean in a mission ... This, this can't be real, I want to see him, where is he?!"

"His body will probably be with his family soon. If you go to them you'll be able to see it"

Breena's hands began to shake while she was sobbing

"I -, H-, How? When? .... What happe-"

She wasn't able to say anything coherent, her voice kept breaking and she kept coughing.

Everything she said sounded like incoherent whimpers, so Phoenix kept quiet.

Breena wept for a while, then she calmed down just a bit.

She chanted the spell Water and washed her face, then asked while tears were still rolling down her cheeks but in an audible voice

"What happened?"

"It's better if you don't know"

Breena glared at Phoenix

"I NEED TO KNOW"

'Well, I tried'

Then he told her everything that happened.

He glorified Kasai's resistance against the Blades just a tiny bit and said that he eventually died instantly after getting stabbed by the Blades, just small details to make it easier on her.

Midway into the story, Breena stopped crying, and her feelings of sadness slowly transformed into hostility.

After Phoenix was done she murmured

"That's unfair"

"The world is unfair"

"Are you not going to do anything about it?"

"No, nothing can be done. Also, don't think of doing anything as well, I don't think Kasai would've wanted you to die trying to get revenge or something."

When she heard that, she cried again, and Phoenix felt a bit of sympathy for her.

"If you need, Take a vacation for a couple of days or even a week.

I suggest letting go and putting the incident behind you.

Attempting revenge not only has a high chance of failure but will also lead to serious consequences. You might be held accountable and charged with treason, potentially putting your entire family lineage at risk of eradication."

When Breena heard that she clenched her fist so tightly that her nails punctured her palm, making her blood drop on the papers.

Phoenix took note of that but didn't say anything.

'As long as she stays alive it's all good, it'll be really troublesome to lose two Elites of this caliber in succession'

After consoling her for a bit, he exited the room and left her to deal with her emotions on her own.

That night, Breena cried until she had no more tears to shed, for a really, really, Long time.

Her passion for protecting the city and its people died.

Everything inside of her was replaced by a single desire.

The thirst for revenge

'The Librarian, The Purple Saint, both of you, DESERVE TO DIE!'
