Chapter 2: Progress and Arrival

One year later…

It has been a year since I awakened, and I have gotten many things done during this period. On the business side, thanks to the boosted intelligence that came with being a primordial wolf, I picked up on everything I needed to run the family business. Still, I know that I will never reach the point of my parents in such a short time, so I found one of the best in the field to act as my assistant and run the day-to-day for me, Miss Sarah Rose. She is a beautiful, brilliant young woman who does not ask questions that she knows she shouldn't ask.

Thanks to her, I got to focus more on training my powers and martial arts, which I excelled in like a fish swimming in water. Although I could not beat my instructors without using some of my heightened senses and reflexes, I am sure I could a few years later when my body is more attuned to eating. Other than that, Jake did, as I said, buy a decent amount of land in Beacon Hills and build a mansion for us to move into at the start of the summer. He also found a bunch of soldiers who were discharged or retired for hire and began the start of my special forces.

Now, you may ask why I would need my special ops team; since I will be moving to a town constantly swarmed with hunters, I will require a team of humans to deal with other humans so there is no so-called code-breaking. While I do not care for their little hunter code, I would instead not invite more hunters than need be to the town than they're already going to be. Aside from the business and military aspects, I also gained two betas. Lucy and Sam are brother and sister, Sam being the same age as me and Lucy a year younger than us. I found them one rainy day when I was in New York, coming from a meeting with the board, 'annoying little shits that I will probably get rid of later tch.' Moving on, I found them huddled together at a bus stop with a bunch of luggage, so they either ran away from home or got kicked out.

After taking them in and getting them bathed and fed, I found that it was the former, as their father was an abusive drunk and tried to force himself on Lucy before Sam knocked him out with an ornament, and both of them made a run for it with whatever they could carry. Seeing their pitiful situation, I offered them the chance to be more and better than they were before, to be a part of a proper family that would care for them. At first, they were hesitant and scared when they saw my eyes glow, but once I explained what would happen along with the pros and cons of being a werewolf, they relaxed and started to discuss what they wanted to do.

Ultimately, they decided they wanted the bite as long as I promised not to abandon them, which to me was a good deal. Once they got the bite and went through their first full moon and shift, I taught them how to control themselves and their powers, which they got the hang of after a few months. I discovered that the betas I can create when given the bite are as strong as a regular alpha, so about Derek's strength in season 2.

I also had them train in martial arts, as I will not have my betas out there fighting like barbarians and just swiping their claws in random directions, hoping to land a hit on their opponents. Once Jake discovered the supernatural was real, he was initially surprised for a few days before returning to normal and just carrying on with his job since it was out of his hands anyway.

It's May now, and summer is approaching again. It will be time for us to pack our things and move to the supernatural center of the world, the big boy table, where every day you run the risk of someone being murdered; how fun. Sam and I will enroll in Beacon Hills High School, while Lucy will wait till next year before starting her schooling.

Two months later…

After an hour or two of driving, we found ourselves in the small beacon county that was our goal. Pulling up to the newly built mansion, which was built on a large estate that Jake managed to get for a fair price from the mayor of the county, we hopped out of the car and took a look around, seeing the soldiers that I had trained for the last year keeping guard all around the compound.

"Ah, home, sweet home," I said, taking a deep breath of the fresh air since the woods surrounded the mansion with a road leading to the main road to leave.

"Z, do I have to be home-schooled for the whole school year? Can't I start my first year instead of alone in the house all day?" Lucy pleaded from behind. Over the past year and the siblings getting close, Lucy especially formed a dependency on me; I can feel that she has a growing crush, but to me, she is not old enough yet for me to consider her, so I treat her like a sister now.

"Lucy, we talked about this. You will stay home and train because our enemies will try to use you to get to me or Sam, so I need you to be stronger," I told her without looking back.

"Yes, I know," she said dejectedly as her shoulders slumped.

"Cheer up, love; it's not like I'm keeping you prisoner; you're free to have Jake have someone take you out to shop or see around the town. Just make sure to be careful and stay vigilant," I said softly as I rubbed her hair.

"I TOLD YOU TO STOP DOING THAT!" she shouted, smacking my hand away and fixing her hair.

Sam and I laughed at her actions as we entered the house, leaving behind an angry Lucy puffing out her cheeks in protest.
