Racing Against Time
Pain rattled her small body, but she didn't know which part of her hurt the most. Right now, she found herself submerged in the deep mud that coated her entire body. Only half her face was exposed to the rain, but the light that she hoped to find continued to be blocked by the canopy and the dark clouds in the sky. At every booming thunderclap, her heart pounded just a little bit harder.
Just minutes earlier, Cindy could remember how she sat in their elevated tent. The supposed light rains had brought so much water that they were forced to find a place to hole up. The mountain path down continued to be dangerous, and without any caves to shelter them, the girls had to brave the storm that descended upon them.
