Alec's POV
In the morning, Dmitri had called me for an emergency, and I had to rush to my office before I could deal with anything else. I left Skylar a note on the nightstand—just so she wouldn't get any ideas that I was avoiding her. Not that I cared what she thought, of course.
Now, I was sitting in front of piles of paperwork, the real kind of headaches that come with running a pack. The issue today? A woman had been found murdered near the border. She wasn't one of ours, but the fact that it happened so close to our territory was a problem.
Dmitri stood beside me, his face tense as we went over the details. "There were no signs of a struggle," he said. "It looked like she trusted her attacker."
I grunted, flipping through the report. "We need to question everyone who had contact with her. Someone knows something. I want answers by tonight."
Dmitri nodded, his usual carefree demeanor replaced by something darker. "I'll handle it."
