“No, the fewer people we introduce to the situation, the better. I might need to go talk to Michelle. She knows Foster better than anybody.”

He hated to say it, but there was another possibility Gideon knew he had to bring up. “It might be a good idea for us to go and see John, too. He’s not as well-versed as Michelle, but he’s done his bit of dabbling with dimensional magic. And he has a way of presenting a…unique perspective on things.”

“That’s all great, but what am I supposed to do now?” Carly asked, her words running together. “He knows where I live, I can’t just fly back to Texas.”

“Just because I can’t put uniforms on her, doesn’t mean I can’t keep an eye on her myself,” Derek said. “I won’t be much good in a fight, but I can speed dial Jesse with the best of them.”

“You could,” Jesse agreed slowly, “but aren’t you a bit distracted by the detective work you have to do?”
