The Anothers Adamas

***

Today has been a good day for me to rest. To be honest, I wasn't too tired from yesterday's training. However, Eve's words must be obeyed. After all, she is still a teacher that I must respect.

Eve had been gone since morning on a low-level mission. She didn't want to tell me about the task. The woman just said that she would be back just before evening.

That's what causes me to have no activity other than looking at my favourite fish pond.

Suddenly I thought of things that I didn't know about this world. Eve's explanation is just a glimpse. I want to know about everything.

In the centre of the village, I once saw a building that was not large, bearing the name library. I'm sure I can get valuable information from there.

I decided to go to that place. So I locked the house and the wooden fence and started walking away.

I still wore simple clothes, a black t-shirt and trousers. I haven't bought any military equipment yet because I think I'll buy them all when my ordered weapons are ready.

Even so, my attention is still great. I tried my best not to talk to the people I met, especially not to say anything about my class.

Quite tricky actually, but nothing hard if I tried. I started to walk on the sidewalk of the main village road to the library. The location is close to the second crossroads after Eve's house.

I noticed through these two eyes, those who walked in the centre of the village mainly were people of this world. These people didn't realize that I was an Adamas among them.

Not until I met a man in the village library. He wore light armour with a bow gripped in his right hand.

He has a blue sensor, a sign that it's the same as me. I hope he doesn't see me coming here.

I immediately walked away into a row of history and science bookshelves. I turn this face to the opposite side of him, pick up a book and pretend to read it silently.

"He must be an archer," I said quietly.

I glanced slowly at the young man. He seemed to have finished visiting the library with a thick book in his left hand.

"Do you need anything, Sir?"

I was surprised. Someone greeted me suddenly from the right side. After I saw her, she was wearing a shirt with matching trousers, black. She smiled as she leaned her head towards me.

"Are you looking for a reference?" she asked, curious.

"Ah, yes. I'm looking for some references," I answered curtly.

"If I may know about what?"

"This world."

"Oh, it's easy. There are many books available that can help you find those references," the librarian said, selecting thick-sized books for me.

There were three books of different thicknesses in her arms. Kindly, she offered three books for me to study.

I was greatly helped. My focus immediately shifted to the pile of books, even though I wasn't used to reading when in the real world. However, out of necessity, I had to.

"Thank you very much," I said, reaching out my hands to welcome the three books.

The woman gave it to me with a big smile on her face. I don't understand why she was so happy.

"I couldn't have finished these three books in one night. Can I borrow one book first?" I asked.

The librarian nodded. Judging by her response, it seemed that I had no problem borrowing this book.

"You can return it when you're done reading," she said.

"But before that, you can write your name, age, and home address in front of the guest table," explained the librarian, asking me to write down personal data as the identity of the book borrower.

I nodded without commenting. I put back the two books I didn't borrow on the third shelf on the left-hand side of the history and science line.

"Good afternoon," said another librarian on duty at the guest table.

She took the book I was about to borrow and began stamping it on the small piece of paper at the back of the book. I also did something else, writing my name on the library archive book.

"You chose an interesting book," said the librarian. Perhaps the word interesting is not quite as appropriate as strange.

Of course. Who also intends to study this world if he has been born and lived here since childhood?

But different for me. I don't know what the name of this kingdom is? Where do I live? Then everything about adventurers.

"Thanks." That's my answer to her puzzling praise. Just as I finished writing my name in the book, I saw the name of the archer in the book.

Nicholas? That's an unusual name. I mean, no Nicholas name to my knowledge from Great Britain.

I immediately grabbed the book I was officially borrowing and said goodbye to the librarian. When I stepped out of the library, I saw the young archer leaning against the library wall.

I was surprised to see him there.

He seemed to close his eyes as if enjoying the atmosphere of the bustling centre of the village. Then, just when I was about to leave, he immediately opened his eyes and looked at me with an intense look. My anxiety arises. Is he going to do bad to me?

"I have never thought. I met another Adamas in a place like this," said Nicholas.

He began to walk toward me. The young man's eyes scanned my body from the bottom to the top, like checking whether I was rich or not based on how I dressed.

"You weren't as lucky as the other Adamas, huh? You're much poorer than the last Adamas I saw," Nicholas replied. He really couldn't choose his words well.

"Sorry. I can't talk right now. I have to go," I begged.

Without waiting for an answer from him, I immediately ran away. After that, I never turned my head and looked at it a second time.

My running speed was getting faster with fear haunting my heart and mind. Finally, after quite far, I started to rest. Several times I took deep breaths to reduce the ragged breaths caused by the exhaustion from running fast.

"Is there an Adamas who got rich right away when he came here?" I asked, confused.

Eve's house can be seen from a distance. I'm glad, at least I can return safely.

A loud voice came behind me just as I was about to open the gate.

"Hey, hold on!"

I turned and saw Nicholas coming with a ragged breath. It's bad! He already knew where I was hiding.

I quickly opened the fence and entered in a hurry, even my trousers were wet from splashing into the pool of water. Instantly the water that was originally clear turned cloudy.

"Oh crap! Eve would have chopped me into pieces if she found out about this."

Suddenly Nicholas was in front of the fence, his right hand still holding the bow. He glanced at me with a specific expression, his brows furrowed in a look that felt strongly in my mind.

"Why did you run away from me?" he asked.

"I-I need to clear up something. I haven't cleaned this fish pond yet," I explained. What a silly excuse.

"Ridiculous reasons. The pond is clear at first before you turn it cloudy. If you don't hurry, all the fish will die," said Nicholas.

"What do you want from me?" I asked, changing the topic.

Nicholas quickly walked over to the fence. Just as his left hand was about to open, I snapped and told him to stay where he was.

"All right. I just want to ask you one thing, could you tell me about your class?"

Creation is hard, cheer me up!
