chapter 28

after the finished building early yesterday, today is something I know will take all day as I quickly go over to cooks area As I get my food not even talking to cook for anything other than food, and rushing right towards one of the columns while I eat passing by Ent who avoids me and continues with the day

making it to the columns made to keep the roof up when it is eventually formed as I go up along with many others along the long, long, staircase all the way to the top at the ladder area where I meet up with Brownie already up as I put my finished crate to the side as Brownie waves at me and I wave back

"It looks like you are joining in this thing as well!"

" we did agree to it before, so it shouldn't be that surprising. Any idea where Cody is?"

" he's at the construction area. I was about to get more material up here, so you aren't late!"

" Thanks, Brownie! I'll be right back!"

as I start rushing as fast as I could without falling off the sky high bridges and columns to see Cody organizing the roles of those working at this project as they go off to different objectives and areas for the whole place as I walk up to Cody

" Hey Cody!"

as he notices me slightly while still busy getting the people organized

" I'm guessing Brownie convinced you to do this, I'm thankful at least you are a quick one with the smaller pieces of the big picture,"

" I guess? either way, with how many people there are, I wouldn't have thought they were basically doing this whole thing for almost no pay?"

" well it's becuase a roof that leads to the water purifier would be a great help, makes less space for the metal spider if it ever comes, to enter, and the fact that they aren't doing this for free"

" Yeah, I know this quest pays a good bit for it being done is great, but this takes a while to reach completion and the payday?"

" the systems changed for quests like this, let's just say, otherwise it be only so many doing it, they get points by the day, it's not many points but points nonetheless, it's why I let Brownie help out, and asked for you aswell, and if you plan on wondering, I was basically put in charge on seeing if people are working for the day, they all get paid by that measurement"

"Hmm? well, I certified didn't know that"

I say starting to look around at all the things that is needed to be done here and watching the sheer amount all over the place as Cody answers while point to people working around and showing them where to go off to like this work is them being a fish in water

" it is becuase you don't show up up here much and the change is relatively recent in comparison, and I don't even need to mention you don't come up here often, as you mostly do the jobs that only take so many days even the longest one with the walls isn't so long"

" I got it. You made your point, well then, I'll get to helping then! I'm just gonna help around. Is that alright with you?"

" As long as you are sufficient in help, I don't mind."

" Great! see you later!"

as Cody sighs smiling a little until they get back to organizing the others as I start going around to help, as I can plainly see the sheer amount to do as I start off with just helping getting the smaller supplies that will be needed for the day as I go down to follow the ones going up and down with supplies as they lead to some piles at a corner of the base just outside it's doors as I look over on what to take up

" we really do need more home space since the base doubles as a storage unit, now then what to get."

I mutter over as I soon see the multitude of bolts in a pile as I pick as much as I can carry and travel safely with as I start heading up along with the other carriers

" So how is it doing this kind of work?"

as my attempt to talk to strangers didn't give much of a response as one guy with brown hair and cracked glasses is busy making sure not to drop their load as the big guy with the glass panels behind me just responds briefly with a yes as I figured these two are clearly not in the mood to talk as we make it up and drop off our loads down onto the platform holding the material as I swap gears to the next thing to do till the rest of the day

like usual the progress is slow and barely moving even with many of us working there is just so much roof to make as I have been rushing from station of people to the next as I ended up whizing a bit with sweat coming off of me more than usual as I slowly walk over to Cody as slow as as I could before it gets annoying as I'm a bit worn out as he decides to just help me walk over to a ledge as I get my bearing after breathing a bit

" i feel so out of it, yet it looks like nothing has been done, no wonder the change"

" Indeed, also it didn't help you as you went from place to place to do practically anything you got your hands on. Why did you do it like that, by the way?"

" I wanted to quicken up the process for you a bit, you know?"

" If that's so there is no need to worry, you did help make the process a little faster."

" Got it, well, I'm gonna start heading down then, alright?"

" No worries, you clearly ready to continue. I got your efforts down,"

" Hey, no worries, it was for -"

" You wouldn't be saying that if you had a low amount of points, just go down."

" Got it, I got it, I'll just help make a home tomorrow and be back later, alright!"

" No worries, Jake, you don't need to work tomorrow, but I will still wish you a good amount of rest."

" See you, Cody."

as I walk down the column as I gather myself up as I see the sun start to set as I see some clouds in the distance making me sigh as I start to hurry a small bit already knowing what they are for

" looks like tomorrow is gonna be a rest day. Good thing the houses first thing built is the outer shells."

I reach the ground and go over to Cook real quick just to ask a question to them before I sleep and wake up to acid as I go out of base in a jog with what's left of my energy as I'm already panting, see the passage way leading to him is almost done now as Cook is Glancing over to me as I wave at him

" Hey! I have a question!"

" Clearly, if you're going up to me at the afternoon instead of morning, spit it out, I was about to leave,"

" Don't you leave earlier, though?"

that got me a small glare

" You came here thinking I won't be here? whatever, either way, what is it?"

" Do you know what's the line for houses, and if so, what is my place in it?"

Cook sighs putting one of their hands to his face as rubs his temples as he takes a look at his papers as I get closer and look at them as they do so against some glares sent my way from them

" Hey, what did I do to you?"

"Paperwork, I got the list since most got taken out by the first mission and aren't likely to come back soon, so you're third in line for the houses,"

" Huh, didn't think I was that near to the line and the other two who knows, and wait a minute how could I cause such paperwork I went into that building early one time"

" There was also the metal spider incident, you apperantly having shadow of all people have to bring you back inside after being lost a moment, as well as the most recent event i won't disclose."

" You saying that makes me more curious."

as Cook stares not giving any info at all to me as I know this won't help anyway as I pout a little and get going now that i now I'm close to having a place to stay at soon as I head back to base to collapse into the bed

" I didn't think that I'd be this tired huh, well time to get some rest cause I know there's nothing to do tomorrow."

as I take off my armor and lay down on a bed as normal as peaceful as possible due to what I'm sure will happen tomorrow and even if it doesn't, I haven't started anything yet anyway

as I soon wake to hearing the acid rain go down the roof and others just waiting inside the base as I pick myself up and stretch, putting my armor and just getting up to meet with Jerry again as I pass by ent and Chris doing another of their idea argument making me choose to just watch them do so as the two of them noticed me as I decide to join in with them to pass by the rain

I watch the rain glow down to this base, flooding it as normal, as gaurd comes up from behind me

" Scrap, what are you doing?"

" Just watching, we both know Shadow is there after alll"

" Right, he should be fine at the very least,"

" we both know he will get cuaght eventually, don't we? I can tell why he is still there, but it seems as if all is going well for him, at least"

" Indeed, though, I wish he and I could talk together again one day."

" I don't judge him for that. Besides, we both know why, isn't that right guard?"

he just slightly nods, as they start to walk away seeminly about to get ready for something

" What is it? am I missing a meeting?"

" No, just, having to check on slimer."

" Ah her, good luck then, I guess I'll go back to help metal with her issues as well, I wish I can tell you how you two can agree again but shadow isn't ready for that, yet, see you soon"

as I walk away, and so does guard
