Chapter 3

We kept on talking for the rest of the night . it was really very easy to talk to her . we agreed to meet again tomorrow . I was surprised by how sweet she was . we went out together almost everyday . we got really close but as friends . she was mentally destroyed , so I wanted to help her as much as I could . I wanted her to see how much life is beautiful despite of all what she has been through .

But one day I went to see her at her house , we were going to the cinema that night . I knocked on her door , she opened the door but she looked sick .

" hey " she smiled .

" hey , Ellie , you are so pale , are you sick ? " .

" yeah , I have a fever , I forgot to call you " .

" oh my god , are you okay ? , do you have a thermometer in here ? " .

" calm down doctor , it is right there in the drawer " she replied .

" okay I will grab it " .

I gave her the thermometer and her temperature was 39 .

" oh no Ellie , you have to come with me to go to a hospital " .

" it is okay I will just take some antibiotics " .

" you are so stubborn , I will go to a pharmacy and grab some meds " .

" hey , Mason , thank you so much " .

" just hang on until I come back " .

I grabbed some antibiotics and some other meds and came back to her to find that Ellie fell asleep .

I waked her up gently so that she takes her drugs .

" Mason , can you stay with me tonight please ? " she said .

" of course " I said holding her hands .

" you can sleep on the bed , I will sleep on the couch here " she replied .

" no , the opposite will happen , you sleep there and I will sleep here , for now you can rest and I will cook you something you can eat before you sleep " .

" okay , help yourself " she smiled .

In the kitchen I found something shocking while I was looking for the ingredients . I found a suicide note written by Ellie .

Thank you so much to whoever is reading this because you at least care to know why I took away my life . you know when life pushes you to your breaking point that is what happened to me . life is all about survival and couldn't survive . I am so sorry to whoever is reading this , probably no one will . what is funny about life is that it gives you what you wanted years ago but not what you need now . about a week ago I met a very nice guy called Mason . he was the nicest person ever to me , he cared about me and treated me very kindly and he didn't want anything in return unlike most of the people . but I am so sorry Mason it is just too late I will break your heart anyways . I wish you could have come earlier . anyways I wrote this 24 hours before I do what I did . at least I will die in my favourite place and at my favourite time of the day . thank you people for absolutely nothing .

I kept crying while reading this but I tried to hide it . I was really in a dilemma , I had two thoughts in my mind , either to tell her I read it and try to convince her not to do it but she will be mad at me because I violated her privacy . the second thought is that I try to save her tomorrow because thanks god I knew her favourite place which the ceiling of her house where she clears her mind and her favourite time which is the sun set .

I decided to go with the second option and try to act normal and keep it to myself . but it all makes sense now that is why she wanted me to stay with her . she thinks that this is her last night .

I cooked the food and we ate together . she then slept like an angel . but I could not sleep from the overthinking . so I texted my best friend from college his name is Johnathan . he proved that he is trustworthy and helped me in many situations .

He already knows about me and Ellie . I told him I had a crush on her . he agreed with me to keep it as a secret but tomorrow I will have to change her mind in the right time . I was worried I might not be able to be there in the right time .

We woke up next morning . she was feeling already better . I kept my mouth shut and didn't say anything although it was too hard not to say anything . it was hard saying good bye to her knowing that if I didn't make in time she would be dead .

I didn't want to leave her . so I went home and brought my laptop and pretended to have work but I came back to the café where she worked to keep a close eye on her .

" woah , you are back ? " she said .

" yeah , I want to work and this place is perfect to have a drink and work " .

She seemed to be annoyed and said " okay , great to have you here " .

I sat down for two hours but I realized she must know by now that I am faking and there is something wrong .

So I decided to bet on my luck and leave then come back in an hour . there were two hours remaining till the sunset and 45 minutes remaining till Ellie finishes her work .

This hour was too long for me . I was so anxious and afraid of what might happen . I would never forgive myself if something bad happens to her .

I came back rushing and I found Thomas .

" hey , I am sorry but where did Ellie go ? " .

" she finished her work but I think she said she is heading to the roof " .

when he said the roof my heart fell down to my legs .

I ran up the stairs and opened the door of the roof to find Ellie standing on the edge with tears coming down from her eyes .

" hey , Ellie stop please " I cried .

" what are you doing here ? " she cried .

" I found your suicide note yesterday in the kitchen , so please don't do it " .

" I don't care anymore " she replied .

" but I care , please , you give me a reason to live " I cried .

" I wasn't alive anyways " .

" no please , I cannot live without you , please , if you jump now , believe me you will not only kill yourself but you will kill me too …. I am begging you don't do it " .

She seemed to be convinced with what I said . she stepped back and as soon as she did that I ran to hear and hugged her so hard . I can feel her tears coming down .

" promise me you will never leave " she said .

" I promise you , Ellie , I will never ever leave you " .
