The commissioner is someone I've known long enough to understand him. That's why when a notification popped up on my phone saying detecting foreign script and intrusive equipment I immediately knew it wasn't him.
The Commissioner is a man of morals and a strong sense of justice but he is someone that I can trust. If he had any suspicion of me he would ask.
I'm pretty certain it was his not-so-nice daughter Barbara. She looked around 19 years old. She had a gymnast's body with hands that have seen combat. Barbara had walked in with some prior knowledge about me which seemed to be nothing good from how she greeted me.
The question is now why someone I've never met holds such a negative view of me.
"This Is my pride and joy," I said while stepping into the courtyard
He took a deep breath of the air "This is nice, oh I see you got a nice fish pond. What are the cabins?"
"This one is my home, the other small ones are staff homes and the big hall-looking one is for pod beds"
"Pod Beds?"
I then led him into the pod bed cabin. The pods took on the appearance of wine barrels. The space in the pods was 1.5m by 2.5m which would fit anyone of below 8ft. 5 rows with each row consisting of 2 pods stacked on top of the other making 10 pods per row. At the end of the room were 4 doors leading to separate toilets and showers.
"These are pod beds or capsule beds. It's essentially a cheap alternative to hotels. It's very popular in Asia"
"Oh it's very cosy, so why didn't you fully commit to the Hobbit Hole look?"
"Huh?" I had a moment of confusion
"The Hobbit Lord Of The Rings"
"Yeah I know what it is, I'm just surprised you know it"
With a raised eyebrow, he replied "I do have hobbies outside of police work"
"Haha sorry, but you are on to something, integrating the cabin into a hill like a hobbit hole would increase the grass space. Does the wise Commissioner have any other ideas?"
"If it can be carried it can be stolen, so bolt everything down. Also, get yourself a gun, many guns"
"Working on that"
I then showed him the Vip rooms and the console rooms. After seeing everything he put forward the idea of advertising the console room as a room to hire for small parties even saying that he would like to use it for Barbara's birthday.
"Are you ready for Halloween?"
I took a moment to recall the horrors of Halloween and replied "This place is a fortress, you should ask Batman and his family that"
The commissioner looked troubled "He can only do so much"
"I commend anyone who tries to improve Gotham but from my perspective he's weak and the real big bad guys are taking advantage of it"
The Commissioner was surprised "Weak, Batman is many things but weak isn't one. I would have thought you two would get along"
"Commissioner, can I be honest with you?"
"Careful, I might use it against you"
I ignored his joke and continued to be serious "You have worked with Batman for quite some time now, you have seen his methods and you probably don't agree with his excessive use of force but let it slide because he gets the job done. Every big Batman news 'Batman captures Joker and co' a week later they escape and wreak havoc. A constant cycle where hundreds of innocent lives are lost with the justice system simply putting a pause on it"
The Commissioner knew exactly what I was getting by but still he asked "What are you trying to say?"
I looked right into his eyes and with all seriousness said "Batman is a great hero but Gotham needs an executor. A necessary evil"
I could see every muscle in his body tighten as he squinted with an icy glare "And are you that person?"
Facing his glare I grinned and shrugged "I plead the fifth"
The Commissioner dropped the act and looked away while reminiscing "I've known you for over 10 years and only now do I feel like I'm talking to the real you"
I chuckled "Don't be so sentimental 90% of our interaction is me giving a statement. And don't pretend like you don't want Joker dead it's just that he knows the laws and uses them. I mean every cop is waiting for that day he resists an arrest"
"I'll see you around hopefully not in a cell and Thomas, don't let Gotham get to you" With those words, he left with his very suspicious daughter.
'Batman isn't weak because he won't kill he's weak because he can't handle it. I've seen one too many people like Batman in my lifetime'
"Scar, teach me how to use the computer" Said Laura as she jumps at a computer
Time moves quickly as it comes to night. The homeless guys came back with some friends. I charged them 5 dollars for the night.
At 9 pm I sent Laura to sleep before having to set up a computer in her room. I stayed awake working on his game. At midnight a miracle happened.
While working I heard the front door open life and immediately started smiling like a child. I looked up from my pointer with a smile that immediately turned into a frown seeing my so-called customers.
'Why is it you three?!'
