"Hey! What the hell is going on!?!" A goon shouted from within their cover.
Bang Bang
The fight had moved onto the second floor after the complete annihilation of the greeters.
"F*ck if I know, just shoot!" The situation was hectic for the enemy, we were currently exchanging fire in a narrow hallway not too dissimilar to the one leading to Kaiser's office.
The goons would come out of the rooms attached to the hall and hide behind random barrels or other forms of cover. Their messiness provided them with cover which I supposed was a good excuse to never clean the random barrels on your hallway.
Bang
"Seamus! I'm going around!" I shouted as I retreated back down the stairs we were trying to climb up.
"Going around?" Hawk said in surprise as he squeezed against the wall allowing me passage down.
"There is always a way around" I said before running down the stairs and out of the building. The concrete building looked pretty damn ugly and it didn't appear to have any proper windows.
It was like a jail cell reminding me of another place I previously infiltrated.
"Piece of cake" I thought before breaking into a sprint. The concrete building was not sleek, it was a coarse and grainy, I didn't know if that made things better or worse for me but…!
Clang
I managed to run up the wall, perform a small leap, and hold onto some metal bars.
Over the confusion of gunfire, the goons hiding inside failed to realize my presence at the window.
It was a small room… At most the size of a large bathroom. It had some construction materials in it, namely some bags of concrete.
I counted 7 thugs switching positions as they fired out into the hallway.
With some effort I climbed up and kicked away the metal bars as I entered the room.
Crash!
"Argh!" A guy was knocked out by the metal bars.
"What the-" The others in the room barely had time to react before bullets started raining on them.
Bang bang
Exchange fire began as I ran towards one of them.
"Urgh-!" I grunted after receiving a shot to my shoulder.
But with a smack, the a guy's head was twisted. With a flick, my gun was already pointing at another person
Bang
...and with a bang, I missed. Yet, blood sprayed.
"You-!" The goon exclaimed staring daggers. He knew he was out of his league.
The bullet he shot towards me dug onto his smacked dead comrade.
"Yah!" I charged forward with man in hand and rammed the angry dude.
Rumble
The room shook from the impact of two bodies against a wall. That was when my face became twisted as some more bullets penetrated my body. Was I being too overconfident?
"Eat this motherf*cker!" A burly man said as his fist came darting towards my face.
I smacked him with the butt of my gun making a bloody incision.
"Urgh… I see…" I said out loud while spurting a mouthful of blood. There was suddenly a metal rod in my body. It came from the sacrifice of that man but this wasn't enough to stop me.
It hurt.
But I knew pain.
I grabbed the rod that impaled me and pulled it out causing it to go straight into the attacker. He seemed to be in disbelief as the light in his eyes faded.
Thud
I took them all out, the exchange fire in the hallway must have lessened but there were more rooms to clear out.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!" A scream from a familiar voice, but they didn't sound as though they were in pain.
I looked at the open doorway and noticed Seamus' figure running past with bloodied clothing. He was insane!
Bang bang!
"Damn you Dan!" For some reason he muttered out my name as he fell to the floor bleeding.
…
I ran out of the room hoping to support Seamus and the others but the people were already being handled by Hawk and Colt who proved that the initial tripping was just an accident.
Wherever he fired, a man would down or let out anguished cries. Only after another minute did things settle and at last, it was quiet.
But that was odd, why would the enemies base be quiet?
"Urgh…" A pained grunt, I may or may not have been stepping on Seamus after running out of the room.
"Seamus!" I shouted feigning surprise.
"Dan, are you crazy!?" Hawk shouted as he approached.
Why are you stepping off him?! ...Was what I'd hope he follow up with but Hawk was a far more serious man than I. He instantly turned over Seamus to assess his injuries.
"Colt, watch our rear. Dan, you can move forward" Hawk said solemnly while Seamus winced.
"Why did you something so stupid?" I asked Seamus who was lying on the ground sweating bullets.
"You keep eating bullets like tofu, f*ck it hurts so much you freak!" Now I understood why he cursed me. Frankly it was not my fault he couldn't withstand a little pain. But credit where credit was due, I got experimented on, our bodies were fundamentally different.
"I'll go on ahead then" I said before turning towards the end of the hallway. There was actually another stairwell up which I did not immediately use.
Why were there no enemies coming down? That was obviously because they were waiting for us to come up.
Before going up the stairs I had to mentally prepare my body and mind. The bullets that had dug into my body also had to be promptly expelled.
Cling
Digging them out wasn't too hard with my mutant powers aiding me. Oddly enough, the more I mutated, the more in control of my body I felt.
"I bled a lot huh…" I muttered before taking the first step up.
It was time to go up and there and show them that I wasn't falling for their trap, THEY were falling for their trap.
The false security they likely felt from knowing we had to go up and hunt them… as well as the idea that they prepared enough countermeasures… Their guards would be down, maybe I'd be able to sneak into the room.
With these thoughts I took every step upwards carefully, my alertness was at an all-time high. I could see that the lights were on in the floor above, what were the odds that the silence meant they weren't actually present?
The odds were slim.
My semester starts soon and I can't tell if it will be a blessing or a curse...
