The color drained from Lara's face as she rushed to her father's side. "What happened to you, Daddy?" she cried, panic clawing at her throat.
"My medicine," Colton gasped out, his face contorting in pain. "Bring my medicine."
"Medicine?" What medicine? Dread gnawed at Lara. She had no idea what kind of medicine her father had been taking.
"It's in the drawer." Colton, his breaths shallow and ragged, pointed a shaky finger toward the nearby cupboard.
Lara darted across the room, throwing open the cabinet doors and frantically searching the drawers. She spotted a small yellow vial tucked in the back. Hurrying back to her father, she held it out to him.
"Is this it?" she asked, her voice tight with concern.
Colton snatched the vial, his hand trembling, and popped a tablet into his mouth without a word. He sank back against the sofa, his chest rising and falling rapidly in an attempt to regain control of his ragged breaths.
