First Day

Honk! Honk!

That's the only sound you could hear as dad drove into the school compound. I looked out the window to see this gigantic sign " WELCOME TO OAKLAND HIGH" in different colours just like the rainbow. Kid were talking to their parents, some waving to them goodbye and some were just getting off the car.  The compound was filled with well dressed students, in shinny white shirts, blue skirts and trousers and a black blazer over the white shirt and expensive looking cars were seen parked in the school compound which gave off the impression that this is the school for the rich and influencecial kids. Well, I was not left behind because dad drives a black Ross Royce and he is the CEO of his mom word I just removed my earphones from my ears and switch off the music. "Jassy"? It's time to go in, do you need me to come with you? Since it's your first day, I don't want you having troubles finding your way". I could see the concern in his face, as he looked at me and gave a sad smile. Don't worry dad, I'm not a kid anymore and besides I've been here once for my registration, remember? So, there's nothing to worry about, I'll take care of it myself, I said looking around the school, touching the base of my neck, then back to my father. "Are you nervous"? He asked while trying to look for his phone that has been ringing ever since we got here.

"No"! Do I look nervous? Pointing at my face and trying to give a fake smile. I think you're late for work and I can guess it's Rosey that has been calling you. Just go and I'll be fine, okay? giving him another of my empty smile and a kiss on his cheek.

"Have a wonderful day and you'll have to tell me everything when I get back home and don't forget to smile and make friends" he gave a broad smile as he starts the car. " Of course dad" bye, have a great day and I love you, I opened the car and got down and stood there as I watch my dad zoom off.

"Friends?" I thought to myself.

I closed my eyes, took a long deep breath, let out a deep sigh and  opened my eyes. I don't care if anyone was looking at me, I had to get raid of this nervousness in me. This is the second school I am transferring to this year and I don't know how it's going to be in here. I wondered if the kids here are friendly or rude just like my previous school.

Still standing at the same spot, trying to figure which way leads to the principal's office, my eyes quickly noticed a guy walking towards my direction. He was tall, I'll say 6'1 or there about. He shirt was half way buttoned and you could see his white singlet. He was still on his headphones; I guess rules don't apply to him and he was busy with his phone but still aware of his surrounding. He was light skinned and he looks handsome, I could say that affirmatively.

"Hi, please could you show me the way that leads to the principal's office"? I asked with a very wide smile on my face and my hand up to say hello.

He just looked up from his phone and gave an icy stare and back to his phone and just walked pass me, slightly brushing my shoulder with his without saying a word.

*"WTH" I stood there with my lips pressed firmly on each other, glaring in anger, I get the fact that he is handsome but that doesn't give him the right to be rude, I was just so shocked.  I would have thought he didn't hear me because he had his headphones on but I was not that short he didn't see me, for goodness sake I am a 5'8🤨. I turned back to see the jerk still walking without looking back. I was already making a fist will my hand when I heard a honk. I turned and there was a white car and a lady walked out of the car.

She was elegantly dressed in a red and white off- shoulder gown. She could be in her early 40's, I guess.

"Don't mind him dear" she  walked straight to me smiling. Damn she looked so beautiful and I love the way her clothes was beautifully designed.

"Of course ma" i giggled still looking at her dress.

"Seems you're new here and can't seem to find your way, right"?  Giving a quizzical smile

"Yes ma, I'm new here and I just kinda need a head start on how to get to the principal's office" still smiling.

"Thank you very much ma" I said bowing my head and giving another of my smile.

"You're welcome dear, do have a wonderful day" she said as she walked back to her car and zoomed off.

I got to the principal's office in no time thanks to the lady's help.

I walked into the office to meet a lady sitting at the front desk busy flipping the pages of a magazine and anyone could guess she was the receptionist.

"Good Morning ma, I'm here to see the principal" I'm the ....

"You're the transferred student, right"? She asked putting away the magazine and bringing out a very big book.

"Yes ma" I said looking around the office and back to the lady.

"He's not on sit right now but you don't really need to see him,You'll just have to fill this, then sign here, here and there, pointing to the paper. You can go over there to fill it, handing over the paper and a pen to me and pointing to the seat in the office.

Okay ma, I collected them and walked to the seat and looked at the paper.

1: Are you interested in sports,if yes which sport?

2: is there a musical instruments you would love to learn, if yes which one?

3: what extracurricular activities would you join?

I filled out everything and headed to her table to hand it over.

"Here it is ma, I'm done" handing it over to her.

Okay, then here is your student ID, the school map, in case you still have problem locating some areas in school since it's a big school, list of subjects you will offer and last but definitely not the least, your name tag, which you'll have to wear at all times.

"Thank you ma" I looked at everything on the table and looked at the lady and picked them.

"You'll have to come back next week Monday to get your other uniform and sport wears and that will be all for now" she smiled.

Bye, I smiled back and walked out of the office to locate my class with the help of the map.

I looked at the map in my hand and it was just so confusing. I thought I was good with maps but this is just so disturbing and I wasn't ready to ask for directions to avoid been given another  cold looks and no reply, just like the jerk face I meet a while ago.
