Tale #18: Analogy of a Heartbreak

We were once talking about heartbreak and how it felt different from everyone. Some said that when their heart broke, it felt like a shattered glass. Some said it felt like being stabbed with many knives in many ways and many times. Some said that feeling your heart break eels like dropping it in a thousand needles. And some said that heartbreak feels like the end of the world.

It is different from everyone, but one thing is common: we all cry, we all feel pain and we all felt like we were alone in the world, unfortunate and deserves to suffer. Each story of why their heart broke is different. Some from a relationship, some from a broken family, some from a betrayal and some from expectations ruined or not met. It is all different, but lead to one thing: getting their heart broken.

That is when, during our conversation, we pondered on why we do feel like this. We tried comparing it to some things, making an analogy about it. And in our deep thinking, I have suggested an analogy: the Climbing Mountain analogy.

We first start with climbing from the foot of the mountain— it is when we start developing feelings for that someone. At first, it is hard, we ponder on why we were developing this kind of feelings for this someone, or what we were feeling at the moment. We try to pinpoint the kind of feeling and the reason behind it. We think and think until our brain hurts— we climb and climb until our legs and arms hurt.

Then, when we're close to the peak— that's when we figure out what it is that we feel: love and why do we feel it for that someone. In that peak, we ponder if we should continue or go back down due to the fatigue and all the thoughts that we have— we ponder if we should confess or just keep to ourselves, if we should let them know or just admire from afar and love them one-sided. In this part, we have a somewhat existential crisis. It is another tiring and intense thinking on making a really big decision that will surely, greatly impact our lives. Some decided to go back down, others decided to continue to the top.

To those who decided to go back down, felt like it was regrettable, they felt like it was an opportunity wasted. But they'd rather stay in the safe zone than to go up in to something that they don't know. They don't want to go into something where they are not certain on what will face them. They are the ones who chose not to confess. They decided to love one-sided and watch as the one they adored love someone else or enjoy life as it is.

To those who chose to confess, have met different endings too. One who got lucky— turns out their crush likes them too and they started to have a relationship. They are the ones who climbed up unto the peak and was welcome with a magnificent view. The view of a rose-tinted glass. To them, they felt like at the top of the world, the luckiest person alive. They felt happy and complete. And then there's the unfortunate one— the one who got rejected. They were the ones who climbed unto the peak but instead of a magnificent view, they were welcomed by fog and dark grey sky. It all looked gloomy and sad, as if the sky pities them. It was as if the fate plays with them, it felt like life were toying with them and they just wanted to sit there at the top, sad and unfortunate.

But despite all those, they all fell on the same fate at some point. They all fell from the top of the mountain. That's when the relationship failed, the rejection finally settled in and the ones who came back down wasn't fortunate enough to set foot safely at the foot of the mountain. They all fell down, miserably and full of injuries.

As they all fall, they contemplate their decisions. They carefully thought through every decision, every move, finding what or where did they go wrong. Where was the failure in them. They try to find reason on why the relationship failed, why they we're rejected or why they made that decision at all. The fall was full of contemplation, until they lay down to the ground with a heavy thud.

That heavy thud resulted with injuries. That heavy thud resulted with an agonizing pain. That heavy thud broke their hearts in many pieces. That is when they felt the heartbreak. That's when they felt crying all the time, that's when they felt like it was the end of the world, that's when they felt like they were all alone.

The injuries that they received may have been treated— those heartbreaks may have been healed, but the healing process is not easy at all. heartbreaks— injuries take time to heal. And while they're healing, of course, some pain can be felt. It's like electric shock jolting them from time to time. The wounds may not heal as quickly— we may not move on from heartbreaks that easily, but someday, those wounds those heartbreaks will heal and leave a scar.

We may have scars reminding us of our journey to this complex story of love, it may be view differently from others, but one thing is for sure. We all experience heartbreaks.
