He rested his head on her shoulder often, but her heart pounded as if this was his first time. “Isn’t it funny?” Weisheng asked as he scoffed in amusement, “I vowed to protect a woman named Xiao Hua with all my life, but here I am, insanely in love with a woman named Xiaoling.” “You…” Xiaoling tried to speak but ended up silent. “It doesn’t matter who I am,” Weisheng murmured, “All that matters is you stay by my side forever.” He raised his head from her shoulder and looked into her eyes, “Because you’re the only one I have in this world.” **** “Then you deserve my forgiveness,” Xiaoling smiled brightly, “Even though you ruined my life, you came back to make it up to me, didn’t you?” “That’s just my selfishness,” Weisheng shrugged, “I don’t deserve you, but I will die before witnessing you with someone else, so…” He rolled his eyes, “You just fell into my trap.” Xiaoling chuckled, “It’s okay. I like this trap.” --- Cover Artist: https://www.instagram.com/alina._.smthng/ My Linktree: https://linktr.ee/Haru.is.cuter.than.you
Weisheng's eyes narrowed upon going through the reports. According to these reports, Yang Bo was innocent. The reports had original seals as well.
"I understand," Weisheng said, "But I would like to confirm the address provided to me. Will that be okay?" He asked, "You can come along if you wish."
Yang Bo narrowed his eyes, "Can I ask what address we're discussing here?"
Weisheng pulled it out to show Yang Bo. The actor immediately recognized the address.
"Why is this address suspicious?" Yang Bo asked, "Of course, I would comply and let you investigate… But this is my mother's address. I want to know why this is brought up in the investigation."
Weisheng and Xiaoling shared a glance at the strange path this case had taken.
"According to your former manager, you and your financial manager frequented this address and threw a party after coming back," Weisheng said, "Although this claim doesn't prove anything, we would like to check for ourselves."
Yang Bo nodded, "Sure," He shrugged, "My financial manager is my mother's cousin, my uncle. So, we often go to see my mother on my payday just to treat her to a meal. The party thing is just hanging out with friends." He explained himself.
Weisheng nodded, "Now, if you would, please take us to the address."
Yang Bo remained cooperative throughout their investigation. Xiaoling was biased, but she still found nothing strange about Yang Bo. She wasn't sure if she couldn't see it because of unnecessary biases. Weisheng confirmed her intuition with his expressions. In his eyes, Yang Bo was innocent.
Yang Bo guided them to his alleged mother's residence. It was a cozy house in a secluded society. It was a posh society, but the coziness made it seem humble. Shortly, they reached the suspicious address. Yang Bo led them to the front door and rang the bell.
A lady opened the door, "Yes?" She asked before catching Yang Bo, "My angel! Come in, come in! Are these your friends?"
Yang Bo nervously chuckled as he entered the house. Weisheng and Xiaoling followed him. They could tell they were received by Yang Bo's mother. Yang Bo and his mother looked like identical twins. That's how uncanny their resemblance was. If his mother weren't older, she would look like his sister.
"Wow, your son looks just like you!" Xiaoling couldn't contain her surprise and uttered.
The lady laughed, "Oh, please!"
She guided them to the lounge. She almost dashed off to the lounge when Yang Bo held her arm.
"Mom," He called her in a polite tone, "These are Prosecutors who came here to investigate."
"Huh?" The lady raised an eyebrow, "So, you mean I shouldn't search refreshments for Prosecutors? Strange thing to say! They're my guests."
"No need," Weisheng said, keeping his eyes on Yang Bo.
Yang Bo stopping his mother from going to the kitchen meant several things. Weisheng wanted to see if Yang Bo was just being cautious or if there was something to hide.
"No, no. At least have a drink!" The lady shook her head, leaving for the kitchen.
Yang Bo nervously looked back at the two Prosecutors and chuckled, "I'm sorry if she ends up taking too much of your time. That's just how she is."
…
Strange. Weisheng almost assumed something was wrong with Yang Bo. It turned out that Yang Bo was just worried his mother might waste the Prosecutors' time.
"It's fine," Weisheng said, "We aren't here to see your mother." He uttered, "Although it was pleasant seeing her, we're just here to confirm the address."
Yang Bo nodded, "Does that mean I'll survive this?" He asked.
"Survive what?"
"This case…"
"Most likely," Weisheng assured him, "We couldn't find any evidence against you. I just have one question that I'm curious about."
Yang Bo nodded in anticipation.
"If you're innocent," Weisheng murmured, "Why not sue your former manager for defamation?"
Yang Bo's eyes widened. Suddenly, his mother walked back with a tray of refreshments.
"I can answer that question," She casually murmured while putting the tray on the table, "But first, help yourselves," She smiled angelically.
"Mom!" Yang Bo whispered to her.
She ignored her son, sitting before the Prosecutors. Weisheng and Xiaoling thanked her for the hospitality, helped themselves with juice, and then quickly got back to business, keeping it professional.
"My son is too nice to sue her for defamation," She shrugged, "Here's the answer."
Weisheng narrowed his eyes, "I request you to be direct. You don't have to sue her if you don't want to. But to make sure you get out of this unscathed, being honest with me will help your final stance." He spoke eloquently.
Xiaoling was surprised to see this side of him. She couldn't believe he had more sides than being a scaredy-cat.
Yang Bo took a deep breath, "My former manager…" He murmured nervously, "He Yanmei… She's my ex-fiance."
Xiaoling's jaw dropped to the ground. Weisheng frowned and cleared his throat, forcing her to pull her jaw back up. The tea was boiling!
"I reckon she accused me of tax evasion because we broke up against her will," Yang Bo explained, "She never liked my financial manager either, so this accusation would be killing two birds with one stone."
"Is this why you haven't made a public announcement yet?" Xiaoling asked.
"Yes," Yang Bo said, "It's pathetic, I know." He sighed, "I knew I'd most likely win this case. He Yanmei isn't the smartest. Plus, this accusation was an impulsive drunk decision of hers. I was sure I'd come out of this without making it a big deal. And I still respect her, so I'd rather not press charges against her."
Weisheng nodded, "Thank you for your honest response. Don't worry, I won't pry any further. This is enough information."
Yang Bo sighed, "Can you do me a favor, Mr. Yuan?" He asked, "Make it so He Yanmei doesn't get a sentence out of this. Make it so she's innocent, too."
Yang Bo seemed like he respected her too much. It was almost as if he would purposefully lose the case just to save her face. His mother looked at him with a concerned and disappointed expression. It was relatable. No one would want their loved one to ruin their life for a passerby.
Weisheng stood up suddenly. Seeing him, Xiaoling stood up as well.
"Pardon me, Mr. Yang. I only do what the law says."
