Swimming Prodigy’s Return

Life isn’t fair and Kim Min-chul knows it...except it isn’t for the reason you are thinking. ...Min-chul is just too damn PERFECT!!! he has a tall height of 184 cm, a fast metabolism, perfect swimmer’s body without even trying and is unknowingly a ladies man! He makes girls fall for him without even knowing!!! How do you even do that?!?! Unfortunately however, he let this all get to his head. Not starting his swimming career until he was in junior high and barely making it into the international leagues. Even then, he would neglect his training regularly. With his 184 cm height, his constant slumping caused him to lose some height, eventually reducing to 176 cm. Even with his fast metabolism, he ate too much and rarely exercised; giving him a potbelly at 29. Despite his natural swimmer’s body, his shoulders got narrowed down and social skills now non-existent. Looking back at his life in high-school and college as a 40 year old salaryman making just above-average wage, he stares over Wariss Bridge and contemplates. Contemplating whether life is worth living or not... “Bwahahahaha!!! What the hell, author? Contemplating what, you liar! I just thought that the view was nice!” “...y-y-you...you’re courting death; insulting me, ancestor koppa!” That day, a strong gust of wind started the chain of unlikely events that would eventually take Min-chul’s life. ‘.....I died, huh?’ [beep boop zorp... I am making robot noises!] “What the hell?!?!” [Oh! You are host, yes? I am your system! Your swimming system!] NOTE: This story isn’t one of those “ sport is life” novels. This is the story of redemption for a man who lost everything due to his own negligence. He isn’t a swimmer, he is a regular guy with a life who is also happens to be a swimmer. Don’t get me wrong though, there will be tournament arcs and swimming tournaments but I will focus on a more slice of life type story for this novel.

Barely Holding On

As a mother, I have to thank the little boy named Min-chul for befriending my little girl. Unlike my first greml- daughter, my second daughter is much more obedient to me.

Yes, she is a bit rowdy and yes, she might be a bit talkative, but it's better than playing a stupid game all day long.

Right now, she should be talking to the little boy...that's why I took the time to befriend his mother.

If our kids are this close, it would be a bad idea to at least be acquaintances with his parents, no? I offer the woman named Min-hee.

"So...how's your boy at home? My little girl is such a blessing! I assume that your boy is the same?"

"He's great! He's a very good boy who listens to what I say! Even my other son, even though he's a bit of a rascal, is still such a sweet boy. They are wonderful!"

'Damn it! Having one good child is okay, but you have two? How is this possible?!?!'

While biting my thumb to calm myself, I feel a light tapping on my right shoulder. Assuming it's the maid to ask for my preferred drink for the day, I turn my head.

"A strawberry mar-..."

"Ahahaha...gotcha~"

As it turns out, it was a my first daughter wearing a bright red bikini. Apparently, after tapping my shoulder, she held her finger out to poke my cheek when I turned my head.

This is a very common occurrence, but she has never been this much of an exhibitionist.

'...IS SHE?!?! I'd better get some of father's men to tail her to make sure she doesn't expose herself...un un, a good plan'

"Hey hey, I can tell with that nod of yours that you are thinking about a false fact"

"That is ridiculous. Anyways, I know you won't give a reasonable answer if I address what you dress in, so, what do you want?"

"Aha...what a lovely daughter you have"

"Waaaa~ this is my little brother-in-law's mother, eh? A very good looking young woman, if I do say so myself. Say...would you like to model for my company?"

So much new information is being thrown that even I, a very composed woman, can't help but be stunned. First of all, she called Min-hee's son, Min-chul, "little brother-in-law".

Second of all...

'why the hell do you offer our guest a job opportunity?!?! This is our house, not SaraminHR!!! My God, my migraines are returning'

"Hooooo...haaaahhhhh, now, do you mind explaining your word choice, my lovely daughter?"

"....."

While I try to keep my composure with a forced smile, Min-hee is blank. Her face has no visible emotions and her eyes are still...this woman is a professional!

She might be a poker player...

"Waaaa~ mom and Min-hee unnie are a bit unsettling right now. Wanna know?"

"Yes, I'd like to know"

"Wanna really really know????"

"Kuh!...y-yes"

"Wanna really really real-"

"Just say it!!!!!"

Finally losing my cool, I yell at my daughter who is pushing the limits. If this were any other person, they'd be a bit embarrassed and maybe guilty.

My daughter however, is no person. This is a monster who feeds on your annoyance.

I learned to feed it all at once to get it over with; it's much quicker and painless. Damn his unfilial daughter of mine...why does she have to be like this?!?!

If she had Ji-woo attitude, I would live until 90 and die with a smile on my lips! God truly has a balance for people I guess.

"Waaa~~ you yelled! Alrighty then, from Ji-woo's own mouth, she said she likes Min-chul....Min-chul on the other hand...well, he is like a puppy marking his territory on her"

Hearing the first part of her sentence, Min-hee and I look at each other with a bewildered stare.

(Mom-lepathy POV)

'Really? My daughter likes your son?'

'Same here, I'm quite surprised but your daughter seems like a good match for my baby boy'

'Un un'

'Un un'

While we are agreeing on this point of similarity, a bombshell gets dropped on us. Whaaaaattt?!?! Min-chul is marking his territory like a puppy?

...oh no.

"come 'ere"

Bringing her closer so that Min-hee can't hear me, I cup my hands into her ears and whisper.

".....did he pee on her?"

"Whaaattt?!?! No, you weirdo!"

"Thank God"

"I meant like he is protective of her when I'm around"

"...waaaaa~~ maybe this is a blessing from the heavens? Someone to protect my baby from her unfilial sister"

"Oy Oy! That's too far! How rude!"

Feeling relieved with her answer, I sigh and relax my back on my chair. If he really did urinate. on Ji-woo, I would have strangled this daughter of mine for not stopping them.

Meanwhile, Min-hee's opinion on me visibly improves as I just called her son a "blessing from the heavens". It's a tactical move that paid off.

"So...is this all? You wanted to inform us of the relationship of our kids?"

"Haah? No! I wouldn't have come all the way here to this bore-fest of a "tea room". I came here to say that Ji-woo invited Min-chul to a sleepover here. Right. Now"

While hearing the my daughter's report on this little ones,

"Right now?!?!...Min-hee sshi, I sincerely apologize for this"

"Oh no no no, I'm totally okay with having him sleepover...given that I stay?"

"Oh yes! Of course of course!"

I offer her guest bedroom number 5 since it's the closest to Ji-woo's room. She thanks me for understanding and starts packing all of a sudden.

"Sorry, I will get my and Min-chul's sleeping clothes"

"Ah, I'll give you some people to help out"

(MC POV)

While watching TV on Ji-woo's couch, she is occasionally inching closer and closer to me and right from from being on the opposite end of the couch, she right beside me.

So, since she decided to be more forward, I'll be most forward!

I casually put my arm around her shoulder and pull her closer, making her rest her head on my shoulder. Meanwhile, my other hand is right beside hers.

She blushes until she turns dark red and backs off a little; I won't force it.

"So, Ji-woo...where will I sleep?"

'Here it is...'

I can't be too forward and ask to sleep in the same bed as her, but I need to IMPLY it. I'm sure that at this stage of the relationship, she wants me to be closer to her.

So, I need to show that I'm okay with her being closer. Girls at all ages are more sensitive to feelings than men.

That's why you can't trust a women when she says "no, it's nothing". When they say that, it means "my day was horrible, but you need ask about it first".

Women = natural tsundere...well, 99% of women = tsundere.

Simple math.

"Uhhh...do ya want to s-sl-sleep in mY rOOm?!"

Due to her nervousness, her voice slightly cracks and raises to a higher pitch than a dog whistle.

"Oh, yeah! Don't worry, I don't move in my sleep too much"

With that wording, it sounds like she was asking "want to sleep in my bed?". I'm honestly the perfect villain.

After a few more minutes of Ji-woo trying to make small talk and me turning it around and slightly embarrassing her while being nice about it, mom comes back with my sleeping clothes.

As we go to bed, I realize just how large this bed is. I could roll over and not even touch Ji-woo, it's so big.

While finding the right position to sleep, she incidentally turns her head to the right where I am and makes eye contact with me. She immediately wants to turn back but sees me staring into her as well.

I give a little smirk before closing my eyes and moving slightly closer to her.

Right as I'm about to sleep, 3 short days before the deadline and my punishment...

'...nothing! Oh wait, I'm not thinking about Feelie yet. Ahem ahem...oh my darling~

Oh my darling, oh my darling System Feelie!

You are sassy and a tsundere, dreadful system, system Feelie!'

...haahh? Nothing?

(Ji-woo POV)

Feeling slightly uncomfortable due to the knot in my heart with Min-chul in the same bed as me, I start tossing and turning to find an acceptable sleeping spot.

Trying the right side, I get surprised by the bright, beautiful eyes of Min-chul staring right back at me. My brain wants to move away, but the body stays.

For a few seconds, I felt something new...

'What if sister was right? Do I like Min-chul? Do I love him? Don't some best friends love each other? I'm so confused...aren't we friends? What if he thinks I'm weird'

Now, unknown to Min-chul, Ji-woo's relationship with him went from best friends to unsure and now, unsure to very confused.

...there's a difference, trust me. If she was walking the tightrope on unsure, she was gently pushed by a breeze on very confused. Right now, she is waving her hands like a madman, trying desperately to not to fall.

The sad thing for Min-chul's cause is that, she wants to fall. She so desperately wants to fall off this rope; she is just scared of ruining her relationship with her first friend...

The only question is, when will that breeze turn into a gust of wind?
