Cold As You
A few minutes before the explosion.
A woman in her lavender silk dress was standing by the kitchen back door, she had a glass of champagne in her hand while her back was leaning against the corner of the door.
Selena Su, twenty-nine years old, her body has fully grown, her slender body gave her a chance to be a model in various magazines though it was not something she loved to do.
She had finished her university a few years ago but until now, she was still unemployed. She could get a job if she wanted too but, she prefers to spend her father's money, travel around the world and have fun.
She has been like this since she graduated, she doesn't know what she wants. All her friends, Kirby and Anders were both married but her, she remained single and unemployed but, it is something she can afford. She has enough money to spend until her last breathe.
Her father has been trying to talk to her about her lifestyle, everyone in her family had tried even Daniella but, she wanted something that's none of them could ever give.
One thing she regretted the most was losing him, her best friend.
Right after her graduation, her best friend Anders got married and the news ruined her last chance of getting him.
She knows she was stupid to let him go, she had all the chance in the world to get him but she didn't, instead, she waited and watched until he fell into someone else and before she knew it, the man was already engaged.
Since then, she had been traveling to find that person who could treat her just like how Anders treated her.
She went into different bars, park, cities and even in the zoo to find that person but she couldn't. None of them smiled like Anders, speak like Anders and loved her like Anders.
She drank the remaining champagne in her glass and stared into space, people in the living room were having fun, bragging about their life and money while her, she's in the kitchen to avoid those topics.
Everyone knows her reputation, people thought of her as a woman who changes her boyfriend faster than her clothes. And she didn't mind it, because she knows the truth, soon she will turn 30, and her plan was to finally lose her virginity before her age disappears in the calendar.
She sighed and asked the maid behind her to hand the champagne but before the bottle could touch her hand, her Uncle Evan snatched it away.
Her eyebrows immediately creased in annoyance as she heard him ordering the maids to not serve her any liquor. When he finally looked at her, Selena glared on him.
"What is your problem UNCLE?" she asked in an angry voice.
The man sighed and walked closer to her direction, as he stood in front of her, his usual serious expression was over his face.
"We didn't saw you for a year, instead of drowning yourself in champagne why don't you check on the triplets. Alexa has been nagging me all year to find you," he barked at her.
Selena raised an eyebrow and sighed, she was indeed gone for a year, and it's because of Anders, he got married a few years ago and she knows its selfish for her to just suddenly disappear but, she can't bear to see him with someone else.
She had seen how much Anders loves his wife, but she just couldn't accept that Anders married her best friend Maddie, therefore she decided to leave, broken-hearted.
No one knows except Daniella, that's the reason why she was able to run around without anyone looking for her.
"Ok," she said short and started leaving but, before she could step out of the kitchen, her uncle spoke once again.
"Hey, everything's gonna be alright, but you might want to take the other stairs, Anders and your pregnant best friend are in the living room," the news didn't come to her as a shock, it will be stupid of her to think that Anders will one day come back to her.
She nodded while her emotion showed nothing but sorrow.
As she walked upstairs, a young boy bumped into her.
When she saw him falling, her hand quickly stretched to help him out.
If it's not because of her quick reflexes, the boy would probably have a broken bone.
"Thank you," the boy spoke in a hard accent.
Right there and then, Selena realized that he's a foreigner.
"Who are you?" she asked the boy.
He had a ginger hair, blue eyes, and sharp nose, though his face was full of freckles.
The boy's face was simple yet attractive, and he seems to be the same age as the triplets.
"Are you one of the guests here?" she asked.
The boy nodded and showed her the invitation he pulled underneath his coat.
"Leo sent me this, and since Alexander was also invited, I had decided to come." The boy explained.
Selena nodded as a response. When she saw the gift box that fell on the floor, she looked at him with a faint smile on her lips.
"Is that for Alexa?" she asked in curiosity as she diverted her gaze to the gift on the maid's hand.
The boy hastily shook his head in denial but, his cheeks were starting to blush.
"No, Leo invited me so I was planning to give it to him," the boy stuttered as he said those words.
Selena switched her sight from the blushing boy to the gift the maid was holding and noticed the box was wrapped with a lavender wrapper and a flower on top which served as its ribbon.
She giggled as she turned her sight back to the boy, "Are you from Aldovia?" she asked in curiosity.
The boy shook his head and replied, "No, I am from Aragon. Can you please give it to Alexandria? I have to leave," saying that the boy left running without waiting for her reply.
Before the boy's figure disappear in her sight, she called him out.
"You meant Leo right?" she teasingly asked.
The boy turned his back to look at her and she could see his freckles blushing.
"Yes, to Leo," then the boy has finally left.
Selena's head shook as she finally recognized who the boy was, and that must be the reason why he was using the kitchen stairs, he must have been planning on leaving the gift in Alexa's bedroom.
She understands why the boy was trying to sneak in, first, Evan doesn't want any boys to get close with Alexa and second, Alexa has been hating him since they were kids.
She decided to give the box to Alexa by herself when suddenly a deafening sound of explosion filled the house.
When she heard the guest screaming in the living room, Selena's face went poker.
"Oh triplets, you are indeed Daniella's kids," she said and decided to check on the living room.
