As the loud explosion went off, Aria and I followed a man flying through the air at breakneck speeds. He hit the ground, bouncing a few times before sliding on his feet perfectly. He maintained eye contact with the two of us, raising an eyebrow when he spotted Aria.
"Oh? There are more people here...hey, you, give me that weapon." He demanded.
"Not happening." Aria quickly fired back, extending it out ten feet and holding it with a glint of annoyance in her one blue eye.
"No no, I wasn't asking. Give me that weapon!" He yelled. He ran at Aria with the intent to force it out of her hands. Aria, on the other hand, dodged with the help of the staff, flipped her body up, and struck the attacker in the back of the head with the weapon.
The force at which he was hit astonished even me. It looked as if he had been shot out of a cannon toward the ground, from a simple side-swipe from an eight-year-old.
"Ra, take the other half of this staff," Aria demanded. I quickly listened, placing my hand on the other half of the extended staff. It felt slimy as if the blood was beginning to melt out of the cracks that sealed the material together like glue.
From the stance we both had, Aria turned her body around and kicked the dead center of the staff with her foot, breaking it like a simple stick. The blood around the staff's breaking point solidified and curved the edge, effectively splitting both halves into usable weapons for both of us.
"You broke that with a simple kick?" I asked her. Aria honed her vision forward, and I noticed that her green eye turned purple by some sort of weird exertion of power. She looked unstoppable and reminded me of somebody I know...
The attacker came back and wrapped his path to head toward me first. It seemed that he wanted to avoid Aria at all costs...
While the attacker was running toward me, I activated my ability and singed a few hairs off of his head. He ducked faster than I could move my point of target, and his eyes turned a blank white color as he swung up indiscriminately.
If that attack hit me, I would die!
Before it could connect to my face, Aria launched a huge stream of Strands toward the attacker, pushing him against the ground and bouncing him even further. This time, when he moved to attack, he flashed away like a flickering light.
The battlefield went silent for a moment while Aria looked around quickly.
"Hm... THERE!" She screamed.
She swung the staff widely, somehow extending it by twenty feet instead of another five, and struck the attacker dead in the center of his stomach. Her muscles popped out and her veins followed as she followed through, launching him up in the air with the simple guidance of the elongated staff.
Aria was...insanely powerful...
Could she be even more powerful than Sky?
I had never seen an eight-year-old with such physical prowess. I was starting to think that I had been a part of a long practical joke.
Aria ran at the attacker with what I thought to be the intent to kill behind her eyes. She quickly moved her feet to the pacing of his thrown attacks, and the punches thrown were all avoided. Her small body allowed her to glide all over the field with the help of the staff, and she weaved in and out of the attacks.
I charged in to help as fast as I could, swinging the staff back and forth. To my surprise, I was cut from a punch thrown at my stomach. My stomach had a large wound on it, and the blood scattered all around me, coating the staff and turning it a deeper red color. So many things were happening in such a short amount of time that I couldn't keep up.
And to think, all of my training had gone to waste.
Aria and the attacker both kicked at the same exact time, intersecting their shins and emitting a shockwave from their position. The area of attack was starting to reach the other people in the city, and Aria seemed to nod her head to the attacker at the same time.
As the hit finally landed against both shins, Aria struck the attacker so hard that his leg turned into pure Strands and he was launched backward, crashing into an abandoned farm on the outskirts of the city we were just in.
What...?
The speed at which Aria was holding off the attacker far passed the capabilities of my eyes. She was warping against the world and the speed of reality, emitting waves of energy that were pushing me back. When do I even go in?!
While I was thinking about possible entrances into the fight, I noticed the quick movements and pressure on the attacker's ankles. Because of Aria's height, he was forced to bend down to make any strikes, which all failed. I decided that would be the best place to make my attack.
As soon as the idea solidified in my mind, the spear skipped out of my hands and off of the ground, catching up to the attacker, and striking him in the dead center of his ankle.
Not only did the spear skip off of the ground and hit him with horrifying precision, but it took an extra loop in the air to allow Aria to charge an attack up toward the attacker's chest.
The spear hit him in the ankle, dropping his head by three inches, and Aria landed a backward heel kick to the side of his jaw.
"Aria...?" I couldn't help but open my mouth as she grits her teeth, smiling upon connecting her foot to the attacker's head.
"He's down for the count. We can escape now," She scoffed.
"You don't want to finish him off and kill him?"
"No, Dad said to never kill, and I don't want to."
