Mapping it all out

When the sun rose the boys got up and geared themselves because they wanted to map out the island for landmarks and for a better place to call home, "Ok no splitting up and no going off too far, just so no one gets lost," James said as they all put on their backpacks and headed off into the dark forest. "Ok Clayden, you are the best at drawing here so you can be in charge of drawing the map," Kymani said handing him a piece of paper, "Where did you even get the paper?" Clayden asked, grabbing it. "Jonathan looted a crap ton of stuff, paper happened to be one of those things," Kymani said looking at his backpack which was filled to the brim with notebook paper, he then looked at Jonathan who was the one who put all the paper in his backpack.

"Anyway, it seems like we will be here a while so we don't have to rush getting the map done," Jonathan said as he sat down on a log he found. They walked around a little, marking everything they found but all they saw were trees and nothingness, "There has to be more here," Clayden said looking around. "Who knows to be honest?" Jonathan said, "Yeah you are acting as dry as you text right now," Clayden responded. "Hey, calm down we have to slow it down for Toby, be open-minded," James said pointing to Toby who was having trouble keeping up, Kymani had stayed back a little to make sure he was ok.

"Right we can stop here for today and just do things around our camp," Jonathan said turning around, "But we haven't found anything crazy yet we can't go," Clayden then replied, grabbing him and stopping him from going back. "I don't see any reason to not stop here," Kymani said, putting his opinion in the mix, while the 4 boys started to argue over what they would do next, Toby was in the back just spectating. He watched as they went back and forth at each other, Toby found a log and started getting bored of all this so he sat on the log but when he tried to relax he felt chills down his spine, he looked around trying to find what this feeling came from but he found nothing. He didn't think much of it as he thought he was going crazy, "Toobbyyy," a voice said in an eerie tone, Toby looked up thinking the others heard that, he stood up from the log and looked off in that direction of the voice.

He looked around but he still didn't see anything as he went to look back at the group he saw a movement, he quickly turned his head and saw a shadow moving through the woods. He squinted his eyes to try to get a better view of the mysterious figure but couldn't identify it as anything. *It's too short to be dad* he thought as he looked back the boys were still in their little group argument, going against what James said, and started walking towards the creature, *I know I shouldn't but it could be a survivor* he thought justifying his reason for disobedience. He got closer and the figure stopped and looked at him, he then got closer and once he was at arm's length he saw the full creature, every defining detail, and was mortified. It was a girl, who had no eyes, the sockets were empty, no teeth, and bone slicing through the malnourished skin. The skin on its fingers was peeled back showing bone, and had cloth over the rest of the body, it's hair was long on one side but scalped on the other. *What the fuck* he thought as he felt fear but despite being afraid, he held out his hand to the thing, when suddenly "SCREEEEEECH!" It screamed loud and started running towards Toby, because Toby was close it grabbed him and pinned him to the floor. "What the hell was that?" Kymani said looking into the forest, "Where the fuck is Toby?" Clayden asked as they all looked into the forest, Jonathan didn't think and ran full speed and the others followed. The thing was on top of Toby and it was screaming in his ear nonstop, holding his arms down he couldn't cover his ears, then Jonathan lashed out tackling the thing off of Toby and holding it by its throat, Toby mortified couldn't move, the others than caught up and grabbed Toby, "Get back to the camp I've got this under control," Jonathan yelled holding the thing as it screamed more, "Are you sure?" James said, Jonathan nodded and the others started running with Toby back to the camp.

"Toby, what happened to not wandering off?" James asked, Toby just looked at him and it was clear he had a motive, "It's ok man, as long as you weren't hurt too bad," Kymani said trying to comfort Toby. After what felt like forever they finally made it to the camp, when they looked back they didn't see any sign of Jonathan. "Where is he?" Clayden asked with fear in his voice, "Stop screaming you annoying piece of shit," Jonathan yelled slamming the thing to the ground, "What the hell even are you?" he said as the thing stopped screaming. The thing looked at Jonathan and started twitching, suddenly a bunch of bugs crawled out of its eyes and mouth going up his arms, "Ah what the-," he yelled out as he got up and started slapping all the bugs off of him. When he finally got all of them off the thing was back on its feet, "Oh I'm killing your ass," he said as he started getting closer to it, but it screamed and ran away, but it was too fast to follow.

After he started making his way back to the camp he felt a slight pinch on his shoulder, he looked back and saw a slug of some sort but didn't think much of it and flicked it off. Returning to the camp the others had a sigh of relief as they chilled at the campfire for the rest of the day falling into the night, Jonathan walked over to Toby who was standing on the bay looking off to the water. "Hey man, don't make us worry, we care about you man, that being said forget anything that happened today it's in the past," he said patting Toby on the shoulder. "Fish Is ready to eat if you want some," he said walking back to the fire, Toby looked back and smiled as he walked over.
