Pangs of Distress

Captain's Log Stardate 87839.3

"The Nexus and her crew are heading to the Alpha Quadrant en route to 13 Ceti in the Mizar Sector. The Nexus is to help with colonization efforts for the surrounding planets undergoing terraforming.

While we travel… I may just… need to see Doctor T… my stomach has been… ooph... Computer, end recording."

Anzyl fell to the ground, clutching his abdomen in his quarters, dressed in his uniform and prepped for the day ahead. Tapping his combadge, he pleaded, "Computer…" he winced in pain, gripping his gut, "emergency transport to sickbay, and notify the doctor on duty."

In a flash of white light, Anzyl teleported from his quarters and appeared on the transporter pad in sickbay.

The nurse on duty quickly helped the Captain to a nearby med bed as the call for the doctor rang out over the comms.

Tegris stepped out of his small regeneration alcove and spoke calmly, "Chief Medical Officer reporting." He walked steadily towards the bed where the Captain was writhing. "Initiate level 1 med scan on the Captain." He turned to the terminal at his right and inserted his Borg-enhanced assimilator tendrils into a slot, "Computer, patch any and all recent medical knowledge on Trill and Symbiotes since the last download." With a bleep, the computer complied, expanding Tegris's already extensive expertise in Trill and Symbiote physiology.

"Aghk, Doc!" Anzyl winced in pain. "It feels like Praxas is doing cartwheels in me!"

Tegris looked intently at the results of the scan. "Indeed, it is the Praxas symbiote, Captain," he confirmed, pressing a hypospray to the Captain's neck. "For the pain." With a soft hiss, Anzyl began to relax as the medication took effect.

Calmly and methodically, Tegris tapped his combadge, "Chief Medical to First Officer O'Reilly."

"Go ahead, T," came the burly voice over the badge.

"The Captain is ill and is not fit for duty," Tegris stated in his usual monotone voice. "As of this moment, you are in charge."

"Understood."

Without missing a beat, Tegris tapped his combadge again. "Chief Medical to Communications Officer Heluna."

This call caught Anzyl's attention. He sat up in his bed, staring with a worried expression at Tegris.

"Go ahead, Tegris," Heluna responded.

"Get in contact with the Trill Symbiosis Commission. Let them know the Praxas symbiote is in need of their assistance."

Anzyl's eyes widened, and his jaw dropped open.

"Will do, Tegris. Heluna out."

Tegris turned to the Captain, who was now thoroughly worried.

"T... what's going on?" Anzyl asked, filled with dread.

"Tell me, Captain," Tegris looked at Anzyl with a straight face, "When was the last time you went back to Trill?"

Thinking about the question, Anzyl replied slowly, "Uh… I haven't been back home to Trill since the symbiote surgery when Praxas and I were joined." He looked at Tegris, intrigued. "You think Praxas is... homesick?"

Then Heluna chimed in over the comms, "I have the Trill Symbiosis Commission Tegris, shall I patch them thru directly to Sick Bay?"

T replied over his combadge, "Please Heluna. Patch them through to my personal workstation."

"Will do." She replied, as T sat down at his medical desk, leaving Anzyl to gaze in worry and dread about what was happening.

Tegris pressed a button on his console, Trill from the Symbiosis Commission sat at their office desk.

"This is Jorel of the Trill Symbiosis Commission." The elderly man with Trill spots on his temples stated, "Your communications specialist stated there was a problem with the Praxas Symbiote."

Tegris nodded and spoke steadily, "It seems that the time has come for Praxas's Rite of Continuation."

Jorel nodded, "Are you certain?"

T nodded, "Abdominal distress to the host. As well as increased heart rate and elevated Dopamine, Oxytocin and Prolactin."

Jorel nodded impressed, "I understand, we will send a representative of the Symbiosis Commission to your ship immediately and rendezvous as soon as they are able. Keep the Praxas symbiote and host comfortable in the mean time. Symbiosis Commission out."

Anzyl looked up at Tegris, shocked and confused. "Rite of Continuation?!"

Tegris nodded. "We need to get Praxas back to Trill as soon as possible. Praxas needs to spawn."
