After the start of Paradise Bai Lang had met up with his brother, family members and Claire's family. Both Bai Georgi and Claire were training in the military when Paradise started. They were not part of the same squad in the military; however, Bai Georgi was familiar with Claire since she was his brother's fiancé. Therefore, when they received orders from the military to go home and await further instruction, Bai Georgi decided to walk towards Claire and make a plan together about what to do next.
Claire and Bai Georgi first asked their respective squad members if they had family members living nearby. When they made a list of which family was where they made a route. Bai Georgi and Claire took their squad members and traveled this route. On this route was also the home where Bai Lang was staying at that moment.
When Bai Georgi came to pick up Bai Lang. Bai Lang was armed and dressed in combat gear, but he sat in the living room with notebooks in front of him. Claire muttered to herself: "Even when the apocalypse happened, he is still a nerd". She felt that her thoughts were reconfirmed and there was truly no characteristic which could be Bai Lang' saving grace and make him worthy of her. Bai Georgi happy to see that his brother was fine didn't hear her, because he was walking ahead of her towards Bai Lang.
Both of them didn't realize that Bai Lang wasn't just messing around. He was making several analyses of Paradise and what Paradise would mean for the world. However, the respective squads, Claire and even Bai Georgi didn't know how significant his notes would be in the future towards their survival.
When Bai Lang saw them arrive and listened to their plan, he decided to go with them. When he asked where they would stay until they awaited further ordered the squad fell silent. Bai Lang already having analyzed part of the dangers of Paradise told them a prison nearby was a good place to set up their base camp. Hearing Bai Lang's analysis everyone agreed. So that's what the squad did they followed along their established route and when they finished this route they headed towards prison.
During the drive there they saw a desolate world. It almost seemed like a war-torn country. Crying people everywhere who were in hiding, blood and half eaten corpses were visible all over the street. At times you could see abandoned children toys next to bones which should be the bones of a child, which wasn't lucky enough to have escaped from the monsters. Monsters luckily still weren't ramped and the few zombies they came across they could just ignore by staying in the car. The squad however knew that from here on out it would only get worse.
The prison walls were breached by several oak trees which had fallen on the walls. It wouldn't be hard to fix, but it resulted in the prisons being empty. All prisoners and guards seemed to have died and if they hadn't died, they must have run away. In some locked cells you still could see and hear zombies banging against the doors.
Bai Lang made drawings based on the schematics of the prison. In these drawings Bai Lang came up with a distribution which showed which area should be used for what. After finishing these drawings, he gave them to Bai Georgi. Bai Georgi armed with these drawings took the lead and led the squad in rebuilding the base.
-Flash Forward Two Years-
After living in Paradise for two years already Bai Lang felt like he knew everything there was to know about the ruthlessness of humans. However, Bai Lang soon realized that he still underestimated the true meaning of the cruelty humans were capable of in the second year after the start of Paradise.
In the second year his still then fiancé Claire (whom he never married since he promised Mitzuki not too and because well the end of the world happened) was the reason he should have died. Bai Lang was outside with a squad of people from their base. When they had to run out of the building, because several zombies were starting to swarm towards the squad. Bai Lang and the rest of the squad started running towards the entrance of the building. When the rest of the squad already ran out of the door, Bai Lang was close on their heels. Bai Lang just had to run a little further, then he would be outside, and they could block of the doorway. This way he and the rest of the squad would be safe.
When he was so close to the door, that he could smell the fresh air from outside, he heard a scream behind him. His fiancé Claire seemed to have tripped over something. Bai Lang cursed in a low voice, but he still ran back to help Claire stand up. Since the zombies were starting to swarm Bai Lang took out his weapon to kill a few zombies before he continued his run towards the door.
The zombies were getting closer and closer, and Bai Lang gave it his all and ran as fast as he could towards the exit.
What Bai Lang saw next however horrified him. Claire was running ahead of him while he was covering the rear. Bai Lang turned around to shoot another zombie. When he turned back, he saw Claire stopping for a second and look at him. The look seemed filled with complexities, however seeing that the situation was turning bad quickly he didn't have time to decipher the look Claire gave him.
So, Bai Lang decided to just ask Claire what was wrong. Before he could open his mouth however, he saw Claire turn around and sprint outside. When Claire was outside, she closed the door blocked the exit behind her. When Bai Lang saw this, it took him a moment to realize what was going on. When he did realize what was going on he was desperate. The zombies were closing in on him and now his only way out was gone. This meant his only option was to fight and kill every zombie present to create a ray of life.
Through the window which was busted a long time ago Bai Lang could hear Claire crying. She cried about how Bai Lang tripped and fell twisting his knee. How Claire had gone back to help Bai Lang, but he had refused her help and had told Claire to go ahead. Claire continued her story by saying that she decided to run ahead, not because she was abandoning Bai Lang, but because she was going to request Bai Georgi's help. However, before she could get Georgi's help, Bai Lang was overtaken by zombies. "Bai Lang tried to struggle", Claire said, but since his leg was injured, it didn't stop the zombies at all. Claire continued by depicting how horrible it was seeing Bai Lang die screaming for her to get to safety.
Bai Lang felt like he was hit over the head when he heard what Claire said. What was happening? He clearly ran back to help Claire when she tripped. After helping her stand up some zombies were nearby so he had to take them out first. This gave Claire the chance to run ahead of him and that is when Claire locked him inside.
Bai Lang couldn't respond while Claire was telling the story because he was fighting for his life. Only by killing all zombies he could live. Zombies were very attuned to sound, so Bai Lang decided to be quiet and fight his way out with as little as noise as possible. Making noise would surely lead to his death.
When Bai Lang finally beheaded the last zombie and wanted to shout, he was still alive. Bai Lang heard Georgi say: "Bai Lang wanted you to be safe, you made the right decision". "It isn't safe here let's move out".
Bai Lang was absolutely God smacked and forgot to react. This utter surprise made Bai Lang quiet. Wondering if anyone would speak up for him and decide to come and look what really happened. He was however met with disappointment; nobody spoke up for him. When he came back to his senses, he realized everyone outside was gone. The fact that the group abandoned him within just a few minutes made Bai Lang feel lost and abandoned. He had given his all for the safety of the base and the people who were his comrade in arms. The same people however abandoned him, without even checking if he really was dead.
What made Bai Lang fall in greater despair however was that the order came from Bai Georgi? The older brother he has always admired. Most people would think he would hate Bai Georgi, because his parents loved Bai Georgi and barely tolerated him. This was far from the truth however, Bai Georgi was a good brother, or at least he tried to be a good brother when he was at home. He never felt that Bai Georgi didn't see him, which was the case with most of the Bai family. So, hearing Bai Lang order the squad to leave, without checking if he was really dead hurt so much he couldn't breathe.
The other team members existed of his nominal fiancé, his family members, the soldiers under Bai Georgi's command and his fiancé comrades in arms (before the start of Paradise). These people actually had the idea of "good riddance", especially his fiancé Claire and her comrade in arms had this thought. They felt like finally Claire didn't have to be dragged down by her useless fiancé anymore.
