Chapter 28: Continuing the Test
"Why are you here?" Dai Mubai asked, leading the way while glancing back at Zhu Zhuqing, who was following him.
"It's none of your business!" Zhu Zhuqing responded with a cold snort, clearly not in the mood to engage with Dai Mubai.
Hearing her response, Dai Mubai paused slightly, turning to look at her with a hint of anger on his face. However, he ultimately said nothing and continued leading Zhu Zhuqing and Su Mo further inside.
Despite Zhu Zhuqing's cold attitude, Dai Mubai was actually pleased to see her. Though he didn't understand why she was acting this way, he figured he could ask her about it later.
Soon, Dai Mubai led Su Mo and Zhu Zhuqing inside, where they saw Tang San and Xiao Wu standing in front of a sausage stall, with Oscar, the stall's owner, right there.
"Tang San, don't eat the sausages here!" Dai Mubai quickly intervened, stopping Tang San and Xiao Wu from buying any of Oscar's sausages. He even had Oscar make a sausage on the spot to demonstrate.
When Oscar recited his incantation, Su Mo felt secondhand embarrassment for him.
Watching the anime was one thing, but seeing it happen in person made Su Mo feel truly sorry for Oscar.
Su Mo didn't rush to the second round of testing; instead, he watched the scene unfold with great interest.
"Su Mo, it's you!"
"What are you doing here?"
It wasn't long before Tang San and Xiao Wu, having learned the truth and decided not to buy the sausages, turned around and noticed Su Mo.
"Tang San, Xiao Wu!"
"I didn't expect to see you two here either. It seems this Shrek Academy really is quite special!"
Since he had been spotted, Su Mo walked up to Tang San and Xiao Wu with a smile.
"Tang San, you know him?" Dai Mubai, standing nearby, was surprised to see that Tang San was familiar with Su Mo and asked curiously.
"Yes, we're all from the same place. Xiao Wu, Su Mo, and I were classmates!" Tang San nodded, introducing Su Mo to Dai Mubai.
Su Mo's arrival surprised Tang San just as much. The fact that Su Mo had made it to the second round meant that he had to be at least at level 21 soul power, which was something Tang San hadn't known about during their time at Nuoding Academy.
In their entire class, very few had even broken through to level 10 to become soul masters.
"Oh?"
"You're all from the same place?"
Dai Mubai was even more surprised to hear this. Even just passing the first round of tests was impressive, and having three people from the same place manage it was quite remarkable.
Ning Rongrong, Zhu Zhuqing, and Oscar all cast curious glances at the trio as well.
"Tang San, let's go up for the test first. If your soul power level exceeds 25, you won't need to take the third round of tests. I'll take you straight to the final, fourth round!" Dai Mubai said to Tang San, intending to have him and Xiao Wu skip ahead.
If Su Mo hadn't shown up, Dai Mubai would have taken Tang San and Xiao Wu directly to the fourth round. However, with Su Mo now in the picture, Dai Mubai wasn't sure of his soul power level.
Seeing the Soul Hunting Spear on Su Mo's back, Dai Mubai guessed that Su Mo's soul power might not be that high, so he suggested that only Tang San and Xiao Wu skip ahead to the second round.
"Isn't this a bit unfair..." Tang San felt a bit embarrassed by the suggestion, thinking it wasn't entirely fair to the others.
"No worries, this is the treatment you deserve!" Dai Mubai smiled and started walking forward.
Seeing this, Tang San and Xiao Wu had no choice but to follow. After all, it was a kind gesture from Dai Mubai.
"Teacher, could you test my friends first?" Dai Mubai requested of the teacher in charge of the second round of tests.
"Oh, they're friends of Dai Mubai? Alright then!" The teacher nodded in agreement.
"What?"
"Why do they get to cut in line?"
"Yeah, that's not fair..."
The other students in line weren't happy about this and started complaining.
"Quiet down!"
"If your soul power level exceeds 25, you can skip the line too, and you might even be exempt from the second and third rounds of testing, going straight to the final test!"
Dai Mubai turned around and swept a disdainful glance at the crowd, speaking forcefully.
"What?"
"Over level 25?"
"How is that possible…"
"We're all under 13 years old, how could anyone have a soul power level over 25…"
...
Dai Mubai's words immediately caused a stir of shock and disbelief among the students.
Dai Mubai didn't bother to explain further. He simply nodded at Tang San, saying, "Tang San, why don't you show them?"
"Sure!"
Seeing the situation, Tang San didn't hold back. He wanted to help Dai Mubai prove his point, so he stepped forward, picked up the soul power testing crystal ball on the table, and began the test.
Buzz—
As soon as Tang San input his soul power into the crystal ball, it emitted a dazzling light.
Level 29.
The test result, reflected by the brightness, was immediately visible to everyone.
"Level 29…"
"How is this possible…"
...
The students who had been shouting earlier were now gasping in disbelief at the result.
But their surprise was premature.
After Tang San, Xiao Wu also stepped forward to test her soul power level, and just like Tang San, she was at level 29.
Seeing the soul power levels of Tang San and Xiao Wu, everyone, including those who were barely making it through the second round, as well as Ning Rongrong and Zhu Zhuqing, were extremely shocked. None of them had expected Tang San and Xiao Wu to have such high soul power levels.
Their attention then shifted to Su Mo.
They were curious to see the soul power level of someone who had come from the same place as Tang San and Xiao Wu.
Except for Zhu Zhuqing, who already knew Su Mo's level.
...
Su Mo felt a bit speechless under the gazes of Dai Mubai and Ning Rongrong.
"Congratulations, you can go straight to the final round without further testing. I'll stay in line for the test," Su Mo said to Tang San and Xiao Wu, choosing not to test his soul power.
Hearing Su Mo's words, Dai Mubai and the others realized that Su Mo's soul power level wasn't above 25, which was why he didn't cut in line for the test.
"If it only takes 25 levels, then I guess I can pass without further testing too!" Ning Rongrong stepped forward, taking the crystal ball from Xiao Wu's hand.
Level 26.
The result quickly appeared.
Then, a shadowy figure swiftly approached and, without saying a word to Ning Rongrong, snatched the crystal ball from her hands.
Level 27.
"Are these guys all monsters?"
Seeing the soul power levels of Tang San and the others, everyone else—except Su Mo—was utterly shocked, questioning how so many people could surpass level 25.
"See that?"
"Two at level 29, one at level 27, and one at level 26!"
Dai Mubai glanced at the crowd with disdain, then led Tang San and the others straight into the academy.
...
Watching Tang San and the others walk away, Su Mo felt a bit frustrated.
They got to skip ahead to the fourth round, but he still had to go through the third round of testing!
However, it didn't bother him too much. Su Mo was confident that he would also make it to the fourth round.
